Re: Operation Karl Down - 01.09.10

    My team:

    SL - Krause
    AT - Myself
    R1 - Spade
    R2 - cannot remember
    R3 - also no memory

    Callsign: Bravo squad

Initial gearing up, convoy setup, movement to the first objective was very organized from my eyes. I loved the way everybody was in line.

After successfully taking the first objective (with some causality) we regrouped and moved out to the next one. Had some ambushing squad which was handled easily.

We had the duty to go back to base for supply run. I think that was the most fun part of the whole thing.

Anyway Krause you did an awesome job. I was not bored following you around since we always had something to do. I had fun.

I was happy to serve you all as part of my famous atv medical service. It truly was a joy driving into the heat of battle jumping off my atv poping a couple guys with morphine and geting out of there as fast as i went in.

Here is what I posted on the wrong forum due my noobness

So, I herd somebody saying that it was the worst mission ever... MAYBE.

Well, this is my first mission that gets played on TG.
Also, we played a "semi-bugged-old" version, the 1.4 is better, less bugs...

On 1.5 I'm planing to add the Ammo box script that H.Rearden told me and other things...

        anyway.. I'm all ears.

          Operation Karl Down - 01.09.10

          Commander: ratlover232
Officers: Sc( + )pe, Krause, Onyx, h3killa

Orders: Break through and eliminate an enemy checkpoint; destroy anti-air support inside the AO

Execution: Alpha fireteam, consisting of Hank Rearden, Nob0dy, Nyax, Tek, and myself, prepared and mounted an M2 humvee and assumed the head of a large convoy consisting of all mounted callsigns. We rolled through Isla Duala's northern MSR and secured an FOB just short of the enemy checkpoint -- the last standing bridge into central Duala had become a heavily-fortified Russian denial-of-advance station.

Alpha fireteam deployed to the northeast of the target, dismounted, and conducted initial reconnaissance. Unfortunately, forward scouts for the Russian base opened fire on units west of our position, and a firefight broke out between the line companies, on one side of the river, and an advance Russian squad holding the bridge.

Alpha continued to move east, following the line of the river until taking cover behind a ruined compound. Although the buildings were leveled, they provided excellent cover from Russian emplaced defenses. Alpha engaged the bridge defenses with the help of our humvee while the other line companies were embroiled in a fierce turf war over the span of land directly before the bridge crossing.

Once the fighting thinned, and a hostile BTR-90 was brought to justice from combined .50 caliber fire, Charlie and Delta companies mounted a courageous offensive into the heart of the checkpoint on the backs of humvees. Alpha and Bravo provided suppressive fire as they crossed the bridge, but it was only minutes before the town was cleared. I was surprised -- our first objective went down without a single Alpha casualty, and morale was high.

Command intended to set up another FOB further south, in the heart of hostile AA coverage, and Alpha was once again to be the point guard for the convoy. We regrouped with Bravo and Charlie victors (Bravo had lost their M2 in the fight and were delegated to MTVR duty), and proceeded along the ASR to our objective. Along the way, we met Delta squad, rather smugly sitting behind the controls of a captured Tunguska anti-aircraft battery.

Half-way to our new FOB we encountered a loosely-organized hostile patrol, which was quickly neutralized by a combination of big bullets (good shooting Nob0dy!) and bigger bullets (thanks to the Tunguska). However, the convoy was forced to halt and reevaluate enemy troop strength in what was to be our new FOB, and during the halt a surprise attack came from our 10 o'clock. We quickly moved out before more Russian reinforcements could arrive.

Our new forward operating base was to be in a small city, easily defended with easy access (just like my girlfriend), but sweeping the city was a chore. Luckily, Alpha got some R&R while the rest of the company cleared the town and established a FARP. Delta destroyed their newly-gotten toy by the time I had grabbed a drink, and it was time for our next mission.

Unfortunately, together with Bravo we drew the short end of the stick, and had a three-fold objective back to the north. We were to escort Bravo's MTVR back to our main base, where they would be resupplied with necessary commodities for the new FOB. On the way back, we were to dismantle our previous FOB, and then mop up the remnants of resistance at the checkpoint we had gone through earlier.

The ride back to base was uneventful, but we were thankful for the chance to reload. With magazines back at full and humvees refueled, we escorted Bravo southbound again, where we left them to sweep the checkpoint.

Bodies were littered everywhere, and so we decided to accumulate a kind of morgue in the center of the village, depositing friend and foe alike, as long as they were dead. We displayed no mercy, and the few bodies we found still breathing were privy only to a final 5.56 to the brain before being carried back to the refuse pile. Once the pile had been filled, moaning still apparent along the seemingly-lifeless corpses, I gave a battlefield cremation with the help of a pair of willie petes. If the checkpoint wasn't cleared, it sure as hell wasn't a threat anymore.

The mission ended sometime after Alpha finished up due to a fatal bug, but I considered it the end of a long day. As I speak, Alpha is resting up in the comfortable-yet-tacky seats of our humvee, waiting for day 2 of the fight for Isla Duala to begin...

                      My Suggestions:

                      1. Make opfor vehicles locked so US cant use them.
                      2. Consider shortening distance to AO
                      3. More bandages and medical supplies needed at spawn. Space out boxes, as its hard to get to the ones in the rear of the starting area, people clog up the area.
                      4. I think at least a few MK19 Humvees would make things interesting, although thats really nitpicking.
                      5. I would really like to see a mortar team slotted.

I locked all Opfor vehicles on 1.5. (god, I never thought that this could cause so many problem and "untactical" experience)
I think that Bandages and medical supplies are enough if you see that there is about 6~5 medic supplies boxes, but I might increase the Bandages and stuff on the boxes on 1.6.

I dunno if a MK19 would fit well in the mission, because the main use of the HMMVV are long range combat, and a MK-19 is hard to use on long range combat

A mortar team would make things slow, a problem that I want to evade in the mission...

But I can try these things... who knows...

Not true, Cephei! In fact, a competent Mk19 gunner is capable of shooting beyond the range of an M2, and from behind cover, too! ACE's T-E system makes the Mk19 an indirect fire-capable weapon, which makes it brutally lethal from ranges between 1 and 2 kilometers. In fact, it would make a great anti-BTR asset... ; )
