  • Input devices for Flying?

What do you think about using an XBOX 360 controller for flying? Anyone given that a swag?

I also have a Logitech Cordless joystick which I used a lot for Desert Combat at BF2 but like the 360 controller a bit more.

But was unclear what the pros and cons are of switching from mouse to joystick/gamepad during a fullscale battle.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Either you're really, really small, or you're talking about flight simulation.

I have a tendency to key out three or four things and then let them battle for supremacy while I key, so there's a lot of backspacing as potential statements are slaughtered and eaten by the victors. ~

Haven't tried a 360 controller, but I have experimented with mouse vs. joystick.

Mouse in ArmA is much MUCH easier to make fine tune adjustments in helicopter flying. This is unfortunate for me, as I prefer joystick. Joystick is better at making smooth adjustments an prolonged turns, but making precision maneuvers will be more difficult. I expect it is the same with a 360 controller since it's basically a small joystick.

Fortunately, I haven't run into any problems binding both joystick and mouse to aircraft controls, so I can use both. :)

If I were you I would bind aircraft to both mouse and controller and play around with both to see which you are more comfortable with.
