  • Arma Question

Okay I just wanna know three questions concerning ArmA

    - Whats the max number of players a server can hold?
    - Do you have to buy a server or is it free?
    - How much would a server cost for like a 32 person and a 64 person?

The max number a server can hold is theoretically unlimited, but practically it starts to crap out once you get over 80+ people.

AFAIK, you can limit the number of people able to connect to server, but generally, the "server size" is determined by mission design (number of player slots and the amount of scripting involved) rather than hard and fast caps on the number of players allowed (ala BF2).

As for costs, I believe that most either rent or buy the actual physical server hardware in a server farm somewhere and then install/admin ArmA on their own. So, if you only intend to run 5-10 man missions, you could easily set-up your own server using a decent desktop and a home internet connection. If you want 80 people on a server you're going to need to pay for some serious bandwidth and hardware to keep things running smooth.
