  • Do you want it again?

Swift Resolution set for CQC in CLAfgan did not go as smoothly as I wanted. Plus it took too long, too many objectives, too wide of an area.

Setting up a version 2.0, except think Fallujah. Less going inside of buildings, but more UPSMON AI. Oh, and now they will respawn once you kill them. Now there will be a constant supply of smart hostile forces.

Some people were let down with the last one with lack of enemy AI, so I am going to kick it up a notch or two. This would be a REAL meat grinder, punishing you for sitting still for too long. Fire and maneuver or get surrounded and killed.

Once, simple objective, locate and blow something up. Doesnt get much easier. And you know basically where it is.

Oh, and it will be around Jolan Park. Yes, you would get better vehicle and air support. Your gonna need it.

    Yay or nay?

    I vote Yay.
If you're making the enemies re spawn though, don't go crazy. Try to match the hostiles to a 2:1 ratio, 1 being the us players, 2 being hostile.

I didn't feel as if there wasn't much action is SR. The issue was that we were completely undermanned. The scenario you described in this post just sounds like a big NO. While I enjoy the idea of promoting the CO to keep a good pace going in a mission, but when it makes it so if your squad sits still for more than a few moments and then you're swarmed by "I-follow-you-through-walls-and-instakill-you-the-moment-you-take-a-peak-to-see-where-i-am-bots" (UPSMON turned up to max and on every bot). I personally am not a fan of UPSMON due to the performance hit it tends to take on people as well as how stupidly annoying it can make the AI. Also, if you're going to put it smack dab in the middle of fallujah, please for the love of all that is sensible, DO NOT GIVE US HMMWVs, JACKELs, PERSONAL VEHICLES, or ANYTHING that requires to stick right next to the infantry to stay alive or vice versa. Nothing bugs me more than a street patrol where every yahoo and his bud gets a HMMWV to be responsible for. At most assign two .50s for a SQUAD and tell them in the briefing "these vehicles are your responsibility, do not leave them, do not let the rot, and do not give them to anyone else.". For transport, there are things called troop trucks, and they're fantastic. Hold 12+ people in them, easy to drive, doesn't have to have 4 guys looking over its shoulders, can have a designated driver whose job is to handle JIPs and Respawns.... better than a helo trying the ferry them in smack dab in the middle of Fallujah.

One would notice I do put atleast 4x MTVRs and a Plt. Driver in my missions, but they are never assigned.

I was actually going to give Strykers with .50s and another AH-6.

But hey, cant please everyone! Only thinking about it, not acutally doing it yet =)

Re: Do you want it again?

Sector, are your MTVR's listed in the briefing pre-mission as well as the assets loaded into them?

Re-spawning enemy? There has got to be a reasonable immersive alternative.

Ok Sector, how about a box of radio's so when player in Slot X doesn't show or disconnects the leadership has options? I like the idea of RTO's but if my RTO goes down, BOOM next guy at base is my new RTO, grab that radio & get here. When someone grabs a radio that doesn't need it, that is a leadership problem, not a mission problem. There is my nickel.

Personally I had nothing wrong with the map and think it should stay on clafghan. I'm not familiarized with it, possibly use another town? I believe that the mission needs a support by fire armoured squad in a LAV as getting into the town last time just took too long as there where too many enemy on the outskirts and not enough in the buildings themselves. Conventionally, an attacking force would not would not enter that town without over watch available if it was possible, which it is.

Re: Do you want it again?

A Stryker mounted infantry patrol through Falluja could be fun, with the majority of players as dismounts (infantry) and a minimum number of required vehicles. The Strykers could be local direct fire support (.50cal), while providing CASEVAC transportation to the CCP (casualty collection point, think frequently moving secured area to get people back into the fight). The dismounts could be tasked with searching building to building for the objective (cache, HVT). Or you could single out one of the radio towers as a target for demolition, with the story the enemy are using it for propaganda purposes and it needs to be shut down (explosively), which searching for the propaganda/radio office nearby.

I'm also against respawning enemies, and would favor instead a trigger on the tower/broadcast area to call in enemy reinforcements. I'm thinking clear to target, have to defend target, demo and search target area, RTB to FOB for completion. As for indirect fire support, I'd favor a Paladin with precision munitions...but I think a UH-1Y might be good as an airborne command & control bird with light CAS abilities. Let the mission commander sweat whether he wants to hazard his C3 bird or leave his troops out in the hurt locker.

Re: Do you want it again?

It did have too little of enemies Python..very much indeed. Respawning baddies would be killer, and Id love it.

Keep it on CLAfgan though because 75% of the time most Fallujah missions end in complete disaster. People just havent developed urban combat techniques advanced enough to take on more then a couple dozen bots. I would second having a LAV though to soften up baddies on the outskirts. LAVs arent all that effective in CQB and are easily taken out by two RPGs so its an asset thats best used at range.

Now if you gave us a Bradley on the other hand...muhahaha!

Re: Do you want it again?

We've had many a successful mission is Fallujah involving the strikers, Joe you've been with us more than once on those missions. Proper use of the Strikers is key. Still trying to get the hang of it, but using them as support instead of the tip of the spear has been successful in our attempts at Lazy Sunday.

Not too keen on the respawns. I do like the idea of more radio's though.

Re: Do you want it again?

Vehicle support would be a huge thumbs up if I did this again. But vehicles tend to dominate the play field not letting enough infantry action. 50 cal strykers I think are perfect as they require good shooting but dont have any splash damage (think bradley). Also, heavier air support in the form of a cobra, but if I give you a cobra, there will be AA lurking. AH-6 = no direct AA from hostiles, only MGs.

What I think happens is after the initial rush of hostiles, no one is left to keep the heat on. It may start with eight 6 man squads, but only 4 will respawn, so they will keep some heat on you and force you to watch your six. And I would allow medics to heal in field and allow anyone to heal near the Stryker. That last choice I made I think was too difficult.

I am only gauging what YOU guys want. Not a lot of people replied to the AAR thread. It sounds like a lot of people don't want fallujah, and thats fine! Next event is going to be a lingor patrol with USMC, followed by CLAfgan British "sweep the area" type of mission with air support. I am trying to line up different and interesting events. Another cool event is based on a mission I made awhile ago, where local population grabs weapons in revolt of a foreign nation taking over their mosque. They have to fight to get the weapons and its more hit and run style of attacks. Also thinking vehicle convoy type with escort some "boxes" to specific areas.

Re: Do you want it again?

I'd rather prefer Fallujah over CLAfghan because the buildings are tighter, it feels better to play with one squad on South-North from a Western position, while another squad is directly across on the Eastern direction. I don't know about the rest of you but it feels more tactical.

Fallujah has desert area's and a whole city, whereas most maps it's either an entire city, or an entire desert.

I'd prefer Clafghan, simply because the buildings there are more than carboard boxes with doors painted on them.

Re: Do you want it again?

I prefer any mission that has decent FPS. Yeah, many of Fallujah's buildings are not enterable, but we never seem to have horrible FPS even 30 people deep. Fallujah is a great place for spacial awareness too, many of the roads follow cardinal directions and it's a good place to really understand how the map and grid work.

I'll play anything you put up, Sector.

On the topic of using the Strykers, I find that if I give squad control of striker movement, they usually end up being destroyed rather quickly, if I give stryker control to XO or retain it myself and use them to either rescue damaged squads, or as mobile cover, they usually last longer. This is only through my own experience and I realize that has to do with the people involved merely in the games I have played so far, but I am all for them. Bradleys, meh, not too big on Brads, but I recall a fallujah mission not too long ago when we had two full squads, one stryker and the proper communication between squad lead, CO, Stryker allowed us to use the brute as cover as one of the squads moved across unknown open area and made it to the otherside of the field to assist the depleted second squad.

I'm for any mission with decent FPS.

Re: Do you want it again?

                              So Operation Not-So Swift Resolution?

Make it a mini-sequel (ala Day 2)/Swift Resolution Counterattack. That way you could keep many of the components, but shift them around a bit. Maybe the premise is the US got pushed back out or withdrew from the town because of lack of supplies/manpower?

Storywise would make perfect sense: oops, the US Army got bogged down and ran into more baddies where they thought it was going to be a walk in the park. Where have I heard that before?

Actually, I think it would be fun to mix some really green hostiles in with the more experienced ones, maybe have a couple squads of them bum rush our rear or something - since we already disposed of the harder ones in Swift Res. Plus, it would give us more targets to shoot without bogging down the server with the AI script!

Also - please add some armor, even if you don't give them enough fuel/ammo. Even if its just light armor. Or mortars. Mortars would be nice!

                              Up to you.

I figure I'm just rambling at this point, so I'll leave it at that. :)
