  • Mission making templates / toolbox?

    Heyloes,

Had the thought that maybe more people would be into mission making if someone already sorted out all the back end work - setting up triggers and scripts in the background etc. So was thinking I might try making a few 'template' missions which have all the necessary ethereal magic already in place. This would allow a mission maker to simply load it up, change things around and recreate their vision without worrying about the more complex sides of it. There would be limitations, of course, however I was thinking if I included a few documents containing further scripts, extras and instructions that would let the maker add just a smidge more complexity it might even out a bit more. Documentation could also be done to explain how the templates work so that you could mix and match them. E.g. You want to make a mission where players clear a town, then escort a VIP to safety and after receiving intel from that VIP, go off to destroy a hostile building of some sort.

Templates I have in mind right now are as follows:

(All Co-op templates would have BLUFOR & REDFOR versions. )

Position assault - A simple 'go here and kill the enemy within that area'. Easy template for town / position assaults. All the maker would have to do is put hostile units, objects and stuff down as well as doing their waypoints. Kitscripts would be in place as well as a quick explanation as to how to change them around, with classlists available. Ammo box scripts would also be there to use as required. Up to 5 objectives would be preplaced and a template briefing in there ( OPORD style ). If a maker doesn't want five objectives, just two, they could simply delete 5,4 and 3 so they only had 1 and 2 left and the scripts would all still work ( would also need to remove tasks from briefing otherwise it may confuse players. ).

Position defense - Basically the same but in reverse, you're defending rather than attacking. Five objectives pre-placed again, just remove the ones you don't want to be used. Maker would still need to place hostile units and setup their waypoints.

HVT Rescue (AI VIP) - Players fight to secure a VIP, then extract them to safety. Not sure if I'd put down 5 vips.. Probably just three, since the whole VIP extracting thing can be pretty dodgy when you're working with AI. As always, maker would need to throw down OPFOR and set waypoints.

HVT Rescue (Player VIP) - As above but the VIP is a player. Optional use of other players as bodyguards would be put in as well as an explanation as to how to make your VIP start in a random position.

Bomb defusal - Players work towards a bomb, defuse it and then walk off into the sunset. Maker would place opfor, etc as always. Docs explaining how to make the bomb appear in a random position also, if not already the template.

Assasination - Players take out a target, or targets, then exfil out of there. Could be armor assets or just an HVT. Maker would need to group whatever units needed to be killed to the trigger but otherwise wouldn't need much more than placing hostile units etc to get it working off the bat.

Tvt versions of all of the above.

Could do more, loads of stuff you could do technically, but with broad templates it's difficult to allow complete customization.

Wondering if anyone would actually be interested in having one or two of those to use, or if anyone had any thoughts on the matter? From the outset it seems pretty achievable, at least.

You could actually do this much easier by making the missions and mission files, make them work, then just give them the mission file for them to merge with. Then they would only need to merge the mission file and make the modifications they want. Documentation for each mission would include the names of all important roles, such as the HVT or bomb or whatever. Then give instructions on how to modify a config file or something to make changing values like bomb timers and such easy.

Haven't really had the time to sit down for more than tenish minutes at this yet unfortunately. Also semi shelved, tried the F2 stuff myself quite a while ago. Didn't really like it personally, but if it's easily usable for people and does pretty much the same thing there isn't much point in this really.
