  • Pandora - The Insurgency

Thought I'd create a thread here for a discussion amongst you mission makers as to what the mission may need and for me to pick your brains on what to do and how to do it.

    Like number one:

MHQ - i want to build a dialog window to open off an addAction. I have no clue how to start doing this. Can anyone (Yink the dialog guy perhaps) give me a few pointers?

    Re: Pandora - The Insurgency

It may exist already...and it may be asking to copy something so closely why wouldn't we do the original?

Anyways...introducing side missions would help to keep the gameplay fresh. Rescue the hostage, blow the bridge, capture the general...etc...or...how about this one...Deliver the food stock to the starving village...doesn't always have to be pew pew I guess.

Also...I haven't seen any enemy vehicles apart from a helicopter... A roving patrol here and there would be exciting....Or how about this...a roving patrol rolls up as you are clearing a grid to drop off reinforcements to fight against you.

Is that asking too much of this mission...sounds like domi all over again but that's not what I want...just a little variety to break up the search and destroy

Just some idle thoughts...since you asked.

What is really good about this version is how the enemy AI system works. The patrol and towns scripts are really working well. You have a great mix of enemy that scales to the players on the server. They use the buildings...they use the roofs! It seems like they follow you and move in from your six when you get complacent. It is running really well without a big hit on the performance too. So I'm adding features until I bog it down!! Just kidding. But it runs so well that after fixing the clean up system that it's an exceptional mission to start with from the original mission makers.

I have been thinking about re-introducing something about finding intel that leads to enemy weapons caches like the original insurgency. It will be a matter of time until I get there as I'd like to re-envision the system a bit. If anyone wants to have a go at putting that together I'll be happy to set up testing time on the mission dev server. Ohterwise, I'll get to it after some fixing of the MHQ. Anyway, that would give you a purpose for clearing the whole island which would be a nice change. If you like side missions (lol you are gonna kick me) we have Server One where we have a lot of content that fits the bill ;)

Now, another thing someone mentioned is missing is civilians. That would be a nice element so you couldn't just take the mortar along with you and blow up the whole island. Aren't civilians part and parcel of an insurgency?

You mention adding more enemy vehicles....I like your thinking. More vehicles are definitely on the to do list!

That's funny you mention civilians. Last night Solo spawned us in at the stadium and I thought how cool would it be if there were civilians walking or jogging around the track.

          Re: Pandora - The Insurgency

In this thread I will also update the development version change log:

          Dev Version Change Log:
          - fixed MHQ addActions bug where duplicate action menu items were being created
          - fixed Arsenal action menu duplication on the main base ammo crates
          - MHQ respawn location is now moveable by a leader un-deploying the MHQ (all addActions like Heal/Quad/Crate are then unavailabe) driving the MHQ to a new location and then deploying it. It will then respawn at the new location if destroyed. The effect is to allow players to move around the island with less time required for role playing transportation.
          - Squad Leader actions on MHQ are no longer dependent on position chosen in slot screen - a leader of any group may access these abilities (deploy/undeploy MHQ, spawn Hunters)
These changes need to be tested on the Mission Dev server in the dedicated environment yet.

          Planned changes for next version:
          - deployable ammo crate at mhq limited to only 1 and is either deployed or undeployed
          - deployable ammo crate is placeable by caller within 10m of MHQ
          - deployable vehicles spawned at player location 10 secs after calling to allow for control of placement (call it and run to safe spot for spawning)
          - objective system and mission end condtiton for finding and destroying enemy weapons caches (forcing mission restart to prevent server memory crashes)
          - MHQ add actions made into a dialog to allow for easier management
          - add either a script to make AI adjust line of sight to be occluded by foliage -or- add ability to turn grass off to even the playing field
          - allow view distance to be changed by players

            Re: Pandora - The Insurgency

            Change Log
            - made fancy new TG MHQ MENU gui dialog. simplifies actions on MHQ and lets players know where they are playing
            - fixed Arsenal action duplication on main base ammo crates
            - MHQ respawn location is movable by redeploying MHQ in a new spot - only leaders can do this
            - Made MHQ Leader actions available to the leader of any group (no longer dependent on what slot you joined the game on)
            - deployable ammo crate from MHQ is limited to only one and is empty except for Arsenal script
            - 9.3 ammo added for Navid
            - gun boat added for faster boat travel and some off shore support

            Updated on the server now.

It's funny right now because the Insurgents have a jet and all we have is a couple transport helo's. So, I likely won't be using that parameter in the future. The insurgents are supposed to have vehicles as well but I think I've only ever seen one.

Next up is the cache system to give us a little more objective to bite into.

The jet is nice but if it doesn't engage what is the point, right. Ammo cache system will be good. What would be really awesome is enemy reinforcements arriving as we are trying to clear or have just cleared the grid.

There are two sets of support vehicles available from the main base. One set is unmovable so that there is always a repair, refuel and rearm option at base. There is also another set of these vehicles that players can drive out to set up a fully functioning FOB. Lose that marshall in the field? Go ahead and escort the repair truck out to complete a repair. There are options for this that exist already. Drive out your mobile repair, refuel & ammo trucks out the the MHQ and set up a full compliment of supports.

Currently support vehicles respawn after 5 mins of being destroyed. 600m of distance between them and any players.

Thanks for porting this over to this thread.

I've taken the support trucks a few times out but they've respawned before I had the chance to use them. So it sounds like the distance is key so...as long as they are within 600 m of an active player they won't respawn?

You are correct sir. I kept it that low so that they will be returned if a pubbie uses them for personal transport. I figure a strategic vehicle like that should not be left unguarded really. However, this is open for interpretation and perhaps there is a need to rethink this if we are to use them at the MHQ. Perhaps I could remove the distance limitation and add a map maker system so we know where they are in case they are abandoned.

I'm going to be working on an update version later to update the group manager to include the native groups. I'll mess with this option then. Thanks for the suggestions and questions!

My suggestions are a better way to manage helicopters, perhaps an admin lock and possibly a HALO system.

                          Thanks.

The current system is broken for helo respawns. I'm more likely to remove them altogether. This is also due to the bugs associated with the current vehicle restriction system. I won't go into detail but here is the current system. A logged in admin may assist with the use of any air assets and has the tools to monitor that they are used appropriately. Otherwise I'm not likely to add any in because them being available means its inevitable a public player will use it as personal transport and ruin a team's approach to an objective. Boots on ground teamwork is what this mission/server is all about. An admin can help with any pilot that is in TS, operates according to the chain of command and so on.

Secondly, is the issue of HALO. I really would love to do this but for one more difficulty. There is already vehicles at base, an MHQ you can transport too. I've looked for ways to restrict players having too many tools to have too many grids active over too large an area. The enemy populating scripts can only handle so much at a time and I'm concerned we could easily overload it. This is one of the reasons there is only one MHQ.

However, I will think about this some more & see if something pops up that could speed up forward deployment and regrouping after player deaths. Who hasn't been stuck 3 km out after an unfortunate Quadbike run in with a very nasty titanium shrub?

                              Yeah I see this now.

Forget the HALO request. You're right, in this case it is good to force the players into cohesiveness by restricting transport methods.
