  • Tg orbat

Figured I would make a discussion thread for this topic in here as it is the mission designer's forum.

Personally, I think we should make an ORBAT, maybe even a few of them for different styles.

I have a Platoon set up and ready, so does Falcon. Mine is modeled after the CF, Falcon's after the US Army Rangers (I think at least), maybe get a few other ORBATs or critique the ones we have? Any thoughts?

Well, here's what I posted in the original thread, and I still favor it because of its efficiency.

    1 Automatic Rifleman
    1 Rifleman
    1 Grenadier
2 Fireteam Leader (carries M136 when applicable)
    2 Automatic Rifleman
    2 Rifleman
    2 Grenadier

Bravo Lead (functional 1st fireteam leader)
    1 Automatic Rifleman
    1 Rifleman
    1 Grenadier
2 Fireteam Leader (carries M136 when applicable)
    2 Automatic Rifleman

Charlie Lead (functional 1st fireteam leader)
    1 Automatic Rifleman

        Re: Tg orbat

Looks like a good platoon layout, only problem I can see is there is no platoon weapons in it. You could just put them in separate teams and such, but that tends to clog up comms with too many people on the net, so some sort of weapons detachment with an overall commander would be nice.

Might as well put up the ORBAT I am using in my recent missions.

        Rifle Platoon (Typical)

        3 x Rifle Section
        1 x Weapons Detachment
        1 x Platoon HQ

        Rifle Section (Typical)
        1 x Section Commander (1IC)
        1 x Section 2IC
        2 x Lightmachinegunner
        4 x Rifleman

        Weapons Detachment (Typical)
        1 x Section Commander (1IC)
        1 x Section 2IC
        1 x GPMG Team
        1 x Mortar Team
        1 x Anti-Tank Team
Note: Weapons teams can be substituted with each other, ie: 2 GPMGs and a Mortar etc.

        Platoon HQ (Typical)
        1 x Platoon Commander (1IC)
        1 x Platoon 2IC
        3 x Medic

            Re: Tg orbat

The ORBAT Sam Hoy posted looks good to me. I think we should get some more people to review it and comment on it, then make up a mission.sqm with it in it. After that, we will need to sort out the gear that each unit has.

Any ideas on gear loadout so far? I would guess the Rifleman in each squad could carry extra ammo for the M249 and such. How many and what kind of grenades does the Grenadier carry, how much ammo does the M240 Gunner and the A-Gunners carry, etc.

Get this stuff down in the thread so when making the gear script, you don't have to make the decisions, you just do what has been decided on.

I like the revised version Sam.
Gotta ask, why not the Javelins? Or is that something the mission maker can alter?

                  Re: Tg orbat

Obviously the mission maker can change anything to whatever he sees fit. But, in game the Javelins are just ridiculous in terms of accuracy and potency. Of course, in real life the Javelin is a powerful system but only the positive points are highlighted in ArmA, you don't really feel the weight, and it doesn't slow you down, lock-ons are instant and can't be detected or countered, there's not set-up or start up time and the computer doesn't overheat.

Currently, the Javelins falls in the ruins game play category because it can't be countered and doesn't require tonnes of skill to use. Now, if we had a M47 dragon that would be a different story.

Aside from that the SMAW is a realistic platoon anti-tank/structure weapon.

                      Re: Tg orbat

OBRAT is a acronym for Order of Battle as far as I know.

Looks good to me, even has the ever popular Marksman in it. Should start to think about exact magazine counts and grenade counts too. In my opinion, EVERYONE (including M240 gunners, SMAW gunner, Marksman ... EVERYONE) should have minimum 1 smoke grenade. Simple as that. Once the numbers are decided, should be easy to finish this up and it can be put in F2 for the next release, whenever that is.

Kind of like free advertising heh.
