Yeah, I heard about Storm Operation. Good luck with the mission, looking forward towards it.

Make sure that you use maybe CDF units, because they look more alike Russians in Afghanistan back in the day.

This mission is about 75% done - i have a few hurdles to overcome and i'll be releasing it.

Should be quite the massive firefight.

You mean presidential guards right? ;)

            re: Hashassin

Historically the Spetsnaz taking the palace took few casualties, it was basically a massacre. 200 guards, 24 operators for the main assault.

              Mission briefing/spoiler

              Tasks:
              Neutralize President Hafizullah Amin
              Destroy AAA Battery
              Deny Access to Vehicles

              Enemy Forces:
The Army of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) maintains 3 battalions within range of the objective area on stand-by in the case of an attack: 2nd and 3rd infantry and 1st combined armor. They can be mobilized within minutes to relieve the palace but are being held at bay by friendly forces of the 154th Separate Spetsnaz Detachment.

The palace itself is defended by 200 foot-mobile kinsmen of President Amin, all strictly loyal, expected to fight to the death. They are armed with MP5s and pistols. Few wear body armor or helmets. They constitute the main body of the enemy force you will be up against.

Details on the palace's defenses have been provided to us by our advisers to the Afghan government and are well documented. Interlocking machine gun strongpoints surround the terraced palace grounds, assisted by spotlights and possibly recoilless rifles.

Checkpoints are posted along the key intersections leading up to the objective area, consisting of a section-sized element and a static HMG.

Snipers are posted on the roof of the palace and have clear line of sight on all approaches.

Several BRDMs and UAZs, on loan from our government, patrol the palace grounds. These vehicles are manned by DRA personnel.

Several section-sized units patrol the outer perimeter of the palace grounds. Most of Amin's men are expected to be deployed in this fashion, and there may very well only be a few dozen individuals in the palace itself.

It is possible that a few RPG-7s may be available to the defenders - although our informers could not verify.

Caution must be advised when approaching the palace, as most approaches are heavily mined. The enemy has kill sacks sighted where mines are absent.

There is a battery of AAA guns north of the palace - they should be unmanned. There is also a platoon of T-72s in overwatch east of the target building. These too should be unmanned. In the event of an attack or alarm being sounded crew will scramble from the northern barracks area to crew the tanks and guns. They must be denied movement.

              Friendly Forces:
The 154th Separate Spetsnaz Detachment's 2nd and 3rd companies plus 1 company of the air-assault battalion are stationed to the north east, denying the movement of the DRA relief forces.

Operators from KGB Spetsnaz groups Zenith and Thunder will lead the main attack on the palace. x2 6 man teams constitute Zenith while x3 6 man teams constitute Thunder. The 154th's 1st company will provide transport for both groups, totaling 3x BTR-60 and 3x BMP-1.

In addition to these forces a platoon of the 154th's engineers, constituted as x2 3 man teams, are assigned to assist in the attack. They are equipped with deployable AGS weapon systems.

Zenith has been inserted on the south western approach with the engineers and x3 BTR-60, while Thunder has been inserted along the south eastern approach with x3 BMP-1s and a Ural truck. The latter may be used to infiltrate the area (see Basic Plan).

Also located within the target area are a dozen or so Soviet advisers, acting as spies. One man, acting as a cook, was ordered to poison Amin's food. These individuals are currently exfiltrating from the area. Two Soviet military doctors not privy to our plan were summoned to the palace to treat Amin's poisoning before we could recall them. They are likely to be treating Amin within the palace. Accordingly, they pose a threat to security and must be neutralized.

              Terrain and Weather:
The terrain leading up to the objective area is mostly flat. Afghan suburbs and farmers' fields deny good visibility however. The most prominent point in the area of operations is the hill at which the palace is located.

              Weather is clear and calm.

              Current time is 1900.

              Mission:
KGB Spetsnaz Thunder and Zenith groups, supported by elements of 1st company, 154th Separate Spetsnaz Detachment, are to assault Tadzh-Bek palace in order to neutralize President Hafizullah Amin. Secondary objectives include the destruction of enemy AAA defenses in the area as well as denying the mobilization of enemy armored assets.

              Commander's Intent:
Execute a "coup de main" on the head of the Afghan government's leadership. Speed and a violent tempo must be maintained in order to destroy the Afghan leadership before an effective defense can be mustered. If our attack lingers and/or if the President escapes the reserve battalions in Kabul and along the MSR will mobilize and counter-attack. This cannot be allowed to happen. Accordingly, Amin must be neutralized within 30 minutes of contact.

Almost equally important to the neutralizing of Amin is the securing of palace AAA and armored assets. These assets are instrumental in our defense of the target area until reinforcements can arrive.

              Basic Plan:
Zenith group is to dismount and attack the palace from the west, supported by fire from 1st company, 154th detachment's BTRs. The 154's engineer platoon's AGS systems should be deployed in overwatch to deny movement of DRA crewmen to the AAA battery and tank platoon's position, as well as serve as a base of fire in support of Zenith.

Thunder is tasked with attacking the palace from the south, supported by 1st company's BMP-1s. Also attached to Thunder is a Ural truck, which should be able to make it through the road checkpoints. Use this vehicle at your discretion to secure the T-72s overwatching the palace.

                Final briefing...

                Mission briefing/spoiler

                Tasks:
                Neutralize President Hafizullah Amin
Possibly located in the central section of the Tadzh-Bek palace, Hafizullah Amin is bound to be protected by dozens of house guards. He will be surrounded by Soviet doctors and is likely to be dressed in casual clothing.
                Destroy AAA Battery
5x ZSU-23 AAA guns north of the target area must be destroyed in order to ensure the viability of the attack on the palace itself, as well as to free our air assets to freely operate in the area. Zenith group's BTRs have satchels stowed; the engineers may them to achieve this objective.
                Deny Access to Assets
It is imperative that the three tanks overwatching the palace grounds, as well as the AAA battery, are not manned. The crewmen assigned to these systems are billeted in a barracks north of the palace and must be denied access to the objective area. It is likely that they will scramble to man these assets as soon as hostilities begin. Accordingly, you are to ensure that they do not reach them.

                Enemy Forces:
The Army of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) maintains 3 battalions within range of the objective area on stand-by in the case of an attack: 2nd and 3rd infantry and 1st combined armor. Furthermore, you are to leave no survivors in the target area - all civilians pose a threat for reprisal due to blood ties to the president and must be neutralized. You will be disciplined if you take any prisoners.

                Basic Plan:
Zenith group is to dismount and attack the palace from the west, supported by fire from 1st company, 154th detachment's BTRs. Intelligence
President Hafizullah Amin is suspected to be in the central section of the Tadzh-Bek palace. Soviet advisors attached to the president's entourage have been able to provide a rough sketch of the building's floor plan. Amin is likely to be in the master bedroom on the 2nd floor, surrounded by Soviet doctors. You are to confirm he has been neutralized by assaulting the target building.
