  • Fallout Revised is coming soon, check this thread for details/screens

Fallout mission in revised version on Sands map, is about to come back soon. Based on one of the first Fallout mission, but with tweaks creating good playability for all sides. Fallout Revised will take you to post apocalyptic Las Vegas and areas around it. Mission is heavily based on Fallout 2 and 3 games.

In Fallout Revised we will return to idea of collecting items, such as water, food, fuel and weapons. Side that will bring to their settlement certain number of items is going to be a winner. Civilians again will be able to pick side and cooperate with their favorite group or work on it's own. Worth mentioning is that mission uses 'MP mission framework' for A2, which means that for example nametags of surrounding people will be visible in distance of 200 meters.

For all of you not knowing what Fallout is about, take a quick look on the storyline:

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world following The Great War, a nuclear war between U.S. and China that occurred on October 23, 2077 and lasted less than two hours but caused immense damage and destruction. Before The Great War were the Resource Wars, during which the United Nations disbanded, a plague rendered the United States paranoid, and Canada was annexed.
With Fallout Revised I present you new map that has all older problems/bugs/playability issues solved.

Let me know if there is anything that you want me to include in the mission, before it's released.

Trust me, I took care of all problems that we had before. For example, you will not stay anonymous anymore when killing civilian. I have been working on it, since we got rid of Aiktailik and had enough of time to think everything out :).

Because of time limit that is going to be 2.5 hours, I was thinking about making day going into the night? Players would get approximately 1.5 hour of day and 1 hour of night. This would force players to change tactics, during night.

History of Fallout is best showed in Fallout 2 intro, that can be found on youtube. Narrated by Ron Perlman. I advise to check out this video, if you don't know what is this all about. Are there people who don't know about Fallout?

              * At this time there will be free world.

              * You can either do side objectives or play as you wish.

              * Time limit would be between 2-3 hours.

              * AI will also be included in the mission, usually as road gangs hostile to anyone or non-side NCPs. This is going to be one of the ways to get access into better weapons or medical supplies. You can decide to fight off road gangs and take their equipment, etc...

              Released when ready :).

It's all those damned teenagers with their Halo, and Modern Warfare, and Assassin's Creed, and all them special effects!
Why in my days 2d isometric rpgs were the way to go: no fancy-schmancy 3d special effects, and easy mode, and intuitive UI.

Seriously though, Fallout was a great series, and not only the video only 6 minutes long, but it stars Ron freaking Perlman, so watch it if you haven't yet. :icon_bigg

I'm only working now on balancing hidden ammo crates and adding some minor objects. Mission is practically finished and will be released in version 1.00 soon.

I implemented ability for players to create personal tent and burning fireplace. Ammo, medical supplies and objective items could be stored there. Mission will go from day to full moon night, so burning fires are not must, unless you are in some dark spot.
I kept just Raiders as OPFOR and various groups of civilians that may or may not cooperate with each other. Raiders got pretty nice hideout in old Coal Mine, just south of the city. I'm attaching three screens of their base.

Any teases or plans for future versions Mikee?

I had some suggestions for the classes to use for the various slots, if you'd hear them out. Just to simply change the look of some of the wastelanders to feel a little more appropriate and a little more varied.

I'm working on version 1.01 at this moment. I will also create some hint messages at the beginning, because apparently players did not know about some useful functions that were used in the mission. (ex. turn on/off name tags 125 meters around you, being able to drag medical crates from hospital, etc...).

I will also work on better synchronization, fix starting position of some units on the rocks, rearrange Las Vegas city to be more easy to navigate, decrease required view distance, add time limit, etc...

If you or anybody else has any suggestions, feel free to post them here or in other thread. I will appreciate feedback.

After having played this I would suggest adding objectives for the Independent team, or some way to "score" some "points" the various groups. It should be used mostly as a way to keep the game a bit more competitive: maybe each town has need of certain resources, and with the limited amount of good weapons and ammo, and the constant threat of the raiders (OpFor), it would make trading preferable over violence.
This could also make the role of the "lone wastelanders" more varied, since they could act as independent merchants, explorers and whatnot.

I will work on this, but when I played on server, we already had good trading going on with citizens of New Reno. However, I will look into this.

I remember playing this mission as Opfor command and I enjoyed it, it was a nice change and presented a completely new scenario to Arma 2 as well as a new form of team work.We were 1 resource away from winning that game, but we could not raid that resource properly from the civies camp near the end, because as we killed the armed men guarding it they would respawn quickly in the same area to defend it again, which made it difficult to get at.We probably would have tried to form some kind of deal to get it from the civs or looked around for another location the supply could be at, but people were ready to call the mission at the time, and that left us no time for trading favors to secure our last resource, and I really doubt some one would have given us the resource so we could trigger the end of the mission instead of calling it,I think people would rather it be an indecisive outcome if anything, instead of an Opfor victory.

Some people tried to raid the Raiders camp, but that would be extremely hard to do also if the raiders were able to respawn quickly to continuously secure the camp after they were shot.Maybe a long respawn time could solve that and give some people the time needed to get some supplies out of the rival camps.

I liked the idea that after a while it turns to night. As Opfor I felt the urgency to quickly get our supplies before night fall, before things become hard to see like our cave entrance lol. When night time came into play, and as other factions gathered and secured resources,I found that the night possibly made negotiating more of a favorable option instead of raiding.By then, it seemed like people had gathered and secured enough resources, that sooner or later, the anarchy would probably be turned into some kind of order as people learned that raiding a camp will be to difficult and negotiating would be best in some case's.

Oh and one more thing, that Raiders camp was awesome, you couldn't ask for a better hideout.
