  • Krause Airborne Ranger Campaign

    My new mission that should be on the server soon.

    A little taste of the mission, background ambiance I engineered:

    http://www.krauselabs.net/dump/newBGnight.ogg

    1. SITUATION - a. Enemy forces,
    (1) Disposition, Composition, and Strength

    (a) Disposition:
    The first hostile air sorties against the Taliban began two days ago. Accordingly, the enemy is in a state of mobilization and alarm. Fighters are likely to be mobile, expecting attack and in a posture to man AAA emplacements within moments of contact.

    (b) Composition:
    Enemy forces consist of:
    Taliban local fighters. They are motivated but are poor soldiers, having access to Cold War-era small arms, technicals and assorted civilian vehicles. They may have access to limited quantities of rocket propelled grenades. Taliban Mujahideen, elite veterans of the Afghan Civil War, may respond from the stronghold to the north and may have armor support.

    (c) Strength:
    Unknown. Our pathfinders spotted several AAA emplacements as well as at least twenty footmobiles in the vicinity of Sakhe.

    (2) Capabilities:

    Maneuver: High, the enemy is fighting on local ground and will be familiar with the terrain. Taliban fighters are purported to carry a light kit, and should be able to move quickly.

    Fire Support: The enemy has automatic rifles, rocket propelled grenades, motorized vehicles, and possible artillery support.

    Intelligence: High, the local populace appears to be against the occupation by US forces.

    Command and Control: The enemy has a low degree of command and control over their forces, expect them to shatter when confronted with overwhelming force.

    (3) Most Probable Course of Action: Position AAA emplacements high up on alpine ridges, supported by patrols of foot mobile and motorized infantry. Respond to attack by delaying our forces with sniper and mortar fire until relief forces from Feruz Abad arrive.

    (4) Most Dangerous Course of Action: Upon spotting our forces, empty out adjacent villages and attack in massed human waves while fixing our forces with machine guns, mortars and rocket propelled grenades.

    Re: CO31 RGR01 Sakhe Suppression v1

    Just released the next mission in this campaign, CO34_RGR02_Two_Passes_v1. Briefing to follow.

    1. SITUATION - a. Enemy forces

    (1) Disposition, Composition, and Strength

    (a) Disposition:
    Recent hostile actions against local enemy forces has put the enemy stronghold at Feruz Abad to a state of full mobilization and alarm. Taliban forces are likely to be fully assembled, at least partially motorized, and preparing to engage into our position imminently. The town of Chak Chak has not been sufficiently scouted, and may be occupied by local taliban fighters or associated allies.

    (b) Composition:
    Enemy forces consist of:
    Taliban mujahideen. They are motivated and tested soldiers, many are veterans of the Afghan Civil War. They have access to Cold War-era small arms, technicals and possibly obsolete Soviet armor and mechanized vehicles. They may have access to limited quantities of rocket propelled grenades.

    (c) Strength:
    Several hundred fighters, as well as at least a dozen vehicles including possible Soviet armor and mechanized assets.

    (2) Capabilities:

    Maneuver: High, the enemy is fighting on local ground and will be familiar with the terrain. Taliban fighters are purported to carry a light kit, and should be able to move quickly.

    Fire Support: The enemy has automatic rifles, rocket propelled grenades, motorized vehicles, mechanized vehicles, armor, and possible artillery support.

    Intelligence: High, the local populace appears to be against the occupation by US forces.

    Command and Control: The enemy has a low degree of command and control over their forces, expect them to shatter when confronted with overwhelming force. Small units are expected to fight bravely however.

    (3) Most Probable Course of Action: Assault the objective area with fast moving motorized gun platforms supported by screens of infantry. Break through weakened enemy defenses with mortar and armor support.

    (4) Most Dangerous Course of Action: Divert all forces from the Feruz Abad to this area of operations, overwhelming our platoon with massive numerical superiority.

    TASK ORGANIZATION

      Re: CO31 RGR01 Sakhe Suppression v1

      v2 of these missions is coming out soon, probably July 4. I am trying to address a bug with the backpacks but need BIS' help, I think it is a Arrowhead bug, as per:

      http://dev-heaven.net/issues/11666

      Other than that, changelog is as follows:

      1. After a great deal of testing, I have managed to enable JIP WHILE having the spectator script - so players will be able to join while the missions are going. Thanks for Sandiford for help accomplishing this.
      2. M136 fixed for AT soldiers.
      3. Taliban mortar spotting delay increased.
      4. Two Passes extended by 16 minutes.
      5. Fixed a rare bug where C-130s would not be deleted and would fly around distantly to the south east
      6. MG gunners given NVGs
      7. Back ambiance loop delay decreased by 1 second
      8. Taliban will now stuff their campfires when blufor is detected on Sakhe
      9. Warnings added for steep cliffs, as per: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/11609
      10. Taliban will better flank defenders on The Passes

        Noticed this myself and its irritating to say the least, hope you can work out a workaround!

          Pretty sure I figured out how to fix your backpack issues. Some units spawn with backpacks as default kit, which aren't removed when you removeAllWeapons. Try adding this to a unit's init BEFORE you add their backpack/backpack ammo:

          Code:
          clearMagazineCargo (unitBackpack _this);
          	removeBackpack _this;

            Re: CO31 RGR01 Sakhe Suppression v1

            Maybe scope question, why would you empty the back pack then delete it, would'nt jsut deleting it work out the same? Also question becuase I'm at work and cant pop up the game, when you add backpacks to units do the packs come preloaded?

              Re: CO31 RGR01 Sakhe Suppression v1

              Operation Arrowhead treats backpacks like ammo crates (ACE didn't), so locality issues between the server and the player can cause items to appear that are unusable. In this case, I'm pretty sure what the server thinks is in the backpack, and what the player thinks is in it, are two different things. Removing the ammo before deleting (and then re-adding) the backpack should get rid of all the things the server might think are there.

                It's all good, I managed a workaround today! It's in the dev heaven link above. V2 of these missions should be on the server shortly.

                Working on the next mission in the campaign now ^_^

                  Hey, I was right, sweet! Krause, you may take a look at the locality of your created backpacks... try
                  Code:
                  //initialize unit
                  private ["_unit"];
                  _unit = _this select 0;

                  if(local _unit) then {
                  	waitUntil{!(isNull player) && (player == player) && (time > 0.1)};

                  	//remove all weapons and magazines
                  	removeAllWeapons _unit;
                  	clearMagazineCargo (unitBackpack _unit);
                  	removeBackpack _unit;
                  };

                    Experienced a massive memory leak tonight while playing this. It occurred just after we destroyed the AA targets to the west of Sakhe, at about the same time a platoon's worth of infantry spawned to our NE.

                      I dont use spawns and missions can't cause memory leaks.

                        Okay. Let me rephrase that: we witnessed an extremely large hostile troop mobilization after destroying the first ZU, and it EXTREMELY negatively affected the server. #monitor said the server was running at 1FPS.

                          AI was basicly broke at that point, and the troops were stutterwalking with no awareness.

                            Probably caused by someone connecting with unsupported mods or some other mission unrelated issue - the other times the mission was played this phenomenon was not observed. In any case i'll try to hang on for a playthrough the next time this is played to see if this happens again. Thanks for the report.

                              It was definitely an issue with the mission, but I can't really tell what the principle problem was, seeing as we've played it before (and completed the same objective).

                              Anyways Krause, I hope you don't take offense at all this feedback. This is one of the few +20 player co-ops on OA right now, so it's getting a lot of playtime.
