  • High Command Module

Hey guys, I am thinking about making a mission utilizing this module. Does anyone know how well it works in multiplayer?

Classified Osama bin Laden Video ;)

Mission Concept – Hunt down Osama bin Laden and kill him. Each force will have some player controlled slots, with the majority being in BLUFOR special forces.
    OPFOR
Situation – Shortly after 9-11, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden hid in the rugged mountains of Tora Bora. December 16, 2001, 11 days ago Anti-tribal militia took the low ground just west of the mountains. We’ve managed to hold them back so far, but we must now get Osama to safety. In 1 hour 30 minutes, a team will come into the area and extract bin Laden. He must survive until then.
Mission – Osama bin Laden must survive until 1330 hours vicinity Tora Bora in order to allow him to escape into Pakistan
    Execution –
*Concept of Operation – Osama bin Laden is in control of the forces in the Tora Bora mountain region using the high command module. He must take whatever steps to survive.

    Re: High Command Module

I tested the high command module in multiplayer. It works extremely well.

EDIT- If you are wondering what high command is, here is a youtube video.

Additionally, it is in the tutorials that shipped with Operation Arrowhead.
Basically, this module makes Arma 2 a real-time strategy game.

I'm also done with my mission.

    Gameplay Notes –

*Osama cannot leave the area (red circle)

*Every 10 minutes, Osama will make a radio call, when he does this, the CIA will pinpoint his position to within 500meters and mark it on the map.

    *Respawn/JIP

        Re: High Command Module

        Tommy Franks op ord:
        1. Do not deploy SF to cut off Osama
        2. Do not deploy gator mines to cut off Osama
        3. Rely on NA to do everything
        4. ????
        5. Profit?

But back on topic, I'm glad to see more ambitious concepts for missions while remaining a degree of realism. This looks very interesting, and i'd love to play it. If you need any support with this project coming to fruition please contact me.

          Re: High Command Module

Related to High command - Is it possible to have multi tiered Command, I.e. Platoon lead sees and commands all squads in his platoon, the Major in command of the Company only sees / commands the Platoon lead?

Or would having more than one platoon involved (AI, mostly) be overkill on the server..?

You can safely simulate 250+ AI, assuming that you don't have scripts which lag the server in general and attempt to streamline everything as much as possible (i.e. not using triggers, coming up with creative and elegant scripting solutions) etc. When combined with unit caching scripts you can have quite a stable performance, especially for a smaller mission involving the players as unit commanders.

I was trying to get that to work, but I was unable to.

                Re: High Command Module

HC is great and I love using it in mp missions as a 'bridge' between pvp style 'check the flanks check everywhere these are humans we're fighting!' and coop 'nawww, ai are too dumb to do that no need to check that'. It adds a very fun element of having real intelligently controlled enemies who can and will employ more advanced tactics against you. And if the enemies are all high commanded then it has the added benefit of making life 10x easier for the mission maker because he can plonk down some HC groups rather than bother with waypoints and triggers.

Multi tiering does work but if you're a company commander and order an AI platoon to go somewhere, you'll end up with a platoon sized manpile on the exact spot where you gave the move order. Was working in arma2 by putting:

                Code:
                this setvariable ["chainofcommand",true];
into the commander modules' init lines. Haven't tried it in OA yet but it should be the same unless we've been BISsed.

You should leave Osama out.. since he's dead anyways. lol

Awesome, I will have to test the tiering.
