Re: Video settings help for ati 4870 512mb

    Hello Canada2005,

    I use ATI's 4850 512MB.
    My Catalyst version is 2009.1104.959.17837
    (it is quite outdated)

I have pretty much a similar setup as yours, except the CPU.

    My in-game settings is as follows;
    Visibility :3000k
    Quality Preference :Very High
    Interface resolution: 1680x1050
    3D resolution : same
    Texture detail: High
    Video Memory: Default
    Anti Aliasing : Low
    Aniso tropic filtering : Low
    Terrain Detail: Normal
    Objects Detail: High
    Shadow detail : Disabled
    Post Process effects: Disabled

Now I also used this for my desktop shortcut (right click on Shortcut>Properties>Target):
    -nosplash -cpucount=2 -exThreads=3
    -nosplash <-skipping the game intro
    -cpucount=2 <-number of CPUs
-exThreads <-what the game will render values from 0 to 7

I'm sure alot of others will mention that this game requires a good CPU and a fast harddrive. Althought it is true. my 7400rpm HDD sufficed. If you have a means, you may try the SSD route.

Also, I've over clocked my CPU from 2.6 to 3.4Ghz and passing the 3.0Ghz mark really made my game run much smoother.
You might want to look into this if you have the time, but make sure that you have the right CPU cooler/fan for it.

    Hope this helped

Thanks, I think the problem was the post process effects that was killing my framerates.
I also have no overclocks, no clue how to do it.

No problem, Canada2005. Glad to hear it worked better for you.
As for overclocking, I would read forums and the 'know-how' sites to get comfortable with the process. Afterall, you don't want to ruin a perfectly running machine for the sake of just playing ArmAII. Also, if you have Hardware & Software questions and the like we have a forum dedicated to it as well here (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/hardwar...e-discussion/?). Alot of technical savvy folks will surely lend you a hand at it.

        Good luck!
