  • Done with this mod.

3 day old char with all the stuff, good organization/tactics/nothing that would get me killed.

8:00EST spawn at NWAF and shoot a bunch of zombies, which beat me down to low health after they run up a hill that I can only walk up.
8:30EST check out a chopper wreck 1km from Stary.
8:45EST move into red barn at Stary to provide overwatch for friendly farmers.
9:00EST server restarts as per normal.
9:10EST join server, respawn 1 hour back at NWAF and am promptly shot by someone waiting right in front of me for me to spawn.

Done with this mod until Rocket sorts his 'stuff' out.

I tried to commit to community building and bringing new ideas to the table.

I tried to organize and equip a group of survivors.

I gave an entire week of my life to playing this game for the benefit of a group and am killed by an opportunist/hacker after a major bug after a day of not being able to play due to other major bugs.

So, I quit. I may come back in a week, a month, a year. Whenever the game is stable enough that what I do for myself and others actually matters.

Real companies pay their alpha testers to painstakingly play/stress-test their product, they don't pawn a half-finished product off on people who are rewarded with headaches, frustration and wasted time.

I don't care if I die, anybody who has played with me knows that I care very little about that. I care when i die to someone exploiting a glitch. I care when glitches cost me hours/days of real-life effort. So, I'm done.

Thank you all for being awesome, I hope some of you figure out soon that this 'alpha' will probably never be worth the time that you put into it. Someone owes YOU money for the time you've put into it.

...It bears mentioning that the only players online when this happened were TG. I begged on direct after crawling into a room with broken legs and he shot me anyhow. If you were at airfield/NW Barracks after the restart, thank you for exploiting a bug to get a kill on a committed community member.

That's a sad story, but we've all been killed under crappy circumstances. Maybe even by other TG'ers, who knows. I can't fault Rocket, he's put in more time than anyone and I can't say I haven't had plenty of fun playing this mod.

I think a high level WoW player that got hacked / lost his high end gear would have cried less than this (OR HAVING YOUR GIRLFRIEND DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT -- LINK.) This is beyond ingrateful absurdity to the point of pitiful hilarity. You logged in after someone else. You died logging in 10 minutes after a reboot (additionally: it is known that if you do not log off prior to a crash/reboot that you can get sucked back in time, furthermore, the hive may have not synchronized with you). Tough ****. I just did that to some fool pre-patch update in the forest overlooking the NWAF and took his NV and GPS. Let it go, move on and return the favor by camping the hell out of a spot and get your stuff back.

Getting killed legitimately, or through an alleged hacker (which from what you describe, does not sound to be the case), is the same regardless. The people who got bombed by jets, fragged by auto-203s and obliterated by a M1A1 didn't cry this hard -- and they're still playing.

NEWS FLASH: No one gets paid for (alpha/beta/RC) testing a FREE MOD for a game. Get a grip. Furthermore, Rocket indicated that DayZ wasn't initially intended / prepared for an explosion of players with the kind of release it had (the game itself was leaked and word spread).

NEWS FLASH #2: I would pay/donate to Rocket and his Dev Team before I start expecting to get paid for his tremendous work into making this Mod a reality. If you want to get paid for playing a game, go play Second Life, or take up WoW Gold Farming, or farm rare Diablo items and sell them.

NEWS FLASH #3: Headaches, frustrations, bitching is a natural game development process.

This is not a commercial product. There are no paid testers. We are the testers. It is an Alpha. Very early, too. The game has only really picked up since mid-May.

          Thanks for the copious disrespect.

Rocket has clearly stated, while bragging about his brief military service (like that has any bearing on his status ) that he intends to take this game standalone, commercial and free-to-play. If it's not obvious you're being ripped off for your time so someone can rip you off for a buck later, then i don't know how else to phrase that.

Alpha patches should be privately tested before being publicly released. Every problem with every new patch undermines the credibility of an end-state product.

I lost respect for Rocket when i saw him trolling people on his own forums. His attitude sucks compared to say, the PR Dev team which has worked painstakingly as a community to produce one of the best and most stable releases of a mod I've ever seen.

Rocket adds a few thousand lines of code to a three year old game producing what is essentially just a really detailed mission with some non-standard server code, synchronization and its own launcher and expects to be treated like Jesus because people happen to like the concept.

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Until I can be certain I can play without losing everything to glitches, bugs and hackers why would I willingly beat my head against a concrete wall?

The game is 'fun' when it works, but i'm worried that an egotistical maniac with dollar signs in his eyes who insists on pushing out broken updates and punishing new players will destroy that. Until I see evidence to the contrary, I can't justify spending any more time on it.

I wouldn't be annoyed if it was just a mod. I've played/tested plenty of mods over the years. It's the fact that this is obviously being geared towards a slick corporate release which stands to make someone very rich with an unoriginal idea (see: chernarus life, arma2 fallout, previous arma2 zombie mods). The PR devs don't get up on stage doing a Steve Jobs with a headset and a powerpoint while talking about how great something is going to be. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't care if half of the planet is playing the alpha, a stable release is vapourware.

If we spend hours/days/weeks/years helping someone polish a product and then he turns around and sells that product for a profit (especially under a free-to-play model which is ripping us all off) we have a right to ask for some compensation. Right now a slick marketing genius is crowdsourcing a lot of labour while maintaining some delusion of modesty by protesting that he never intended it to get this big.

          Give me a break.

              Re: Done with this mod.

I'm really sorry you lost your equipment. I'm sure there are plenty of people around who would help you get back on your feet. I really am sorry. I hate losing my gear.

Having said that the only really valid point I see in your post is are you having fun and do you have the time to play? How Rocket builds the mod, what his plans are with it and him standing in front of a room full of people to talk about the mod should have no bearing those two items. Fun and Time.

If you don't have the time available to play games then no problem we have all been there. Come back and play games when you do have the time. The biggest of the two points is "ARE YOU HAVING FUN?"

If your not having fun while gaming there is no point to playing. I think alot of people take their games so seriously that they forget this very basic concept. If your not having fun with the current version of the mod then don't play it. As simple as that. This is an Alpha Mod to a game. I assume It's not your job and no one is forcing you to play.

Well so long see you if you decide to come back or if not then in another game.

FYI the only reason I play this is because it's fun now. If in a month or two or six it turns into a piece of crap I'll stop playing but I'm not going to worry about it now because I'm having fun.

Damn, of all the people that had to quit, I'm going to hate seeing you go, Intrepid. You were the guy who made our group in DayZ what it is today. We wouldn't have a base, we wouldn't have all that loot that we accumulated, and hell, we were that second squad that could go on a server to hunt other players and/or zombies. I don't know what else to say other than thank you for all the time you've invested in creating a safe area to restock/re-equip/meet at, and I wish I was there to save you. That's the very least that I owe.

I do have some things to say though; don't take my machine gun if you loot the camp!

                    Re: Done with this mod.

What did you expect, really? You are playing a mod that is a proof of concept mod, mod that doesn't cost anything or doesn't even attempt to make profit, mod that is in it's infancy aka alpha?

Real companies pay their alpha testers to painstakingly play/stress-test their product, they don't pawn a half-finished product off on people who are rewarded with headaches, frustration and wasted time.
You should be paid testing this? No? How many bug reports have you exactly posted during this test of yours? I think you, like most of us in this alpha testing have been playing instead of testing. Testing the alpha means purposefully trying to break the game and finding how to repeat these bugs and after finding them, reporting them with as much detail as possible for the coder to figure out what in the game logic is wrong. Actual testing is real work. Just playing the game is not really testing (only probably at Beta when you have to test if you can even complete the game at QA).

Alpha is the time of the game when the core of the game works, when the developers test stuff that might potentially make or break the game. Stuff will happen and it'll suck for individual players at times.

Sorry that happens its alpha and its going to be a pain in the butt sometime. I'd like to remind some people here this inst the WOW/EA forums, you can point out flaws in his statement in a respectful way. Not sure if you intended it or not but some of you are coming off like complete ***holes.

Intrepid, while i didn't get to play DayZ with you i did get to play other games with you and was looking forward to DayZ along side of you. You are the one that introduced me to this mod to begin with. On that note I have to say sorry to see you go and when you do decide to come back i look forward to many many good times with you. As well when you do return let me know and i'll help you get back on your feet hopefully.

I can understand your frustration with the stability of the mod but due to being in alpha i understand it will have problems. Like the other day i lost my character not from a death but from the hive not syncing with our server. Oh well I'm having fun with the TG group im playing with and i start over.

Choosing to play a pre-released game is not a forced decision and really so many other companies already outsource a lot of their testing with players who never get paid or credited. All mod makers benefit from their tester's, that is to say they might get more time to work a real job or may even get a better job because of the communities support pushing their mod to the top. In the end the mod belongs to it's creator, it's his intellectual property and if he does make the decision to pawn it off as a free-to-play with a cash marketplace well that's his decision. I don't want him to do this but this is real life and just like in DayZ anyone can be a bandit. I really hope Dean isn't this evil marketing genius that you describe. :row__688:

Scattershot this is inline with why I am not playing it at the moment but in the future once the DayZ community levels out and Rocket makes the entire process more stable I would come back in a heart beat. But reading things like this just turns me off because I know how frustrated I would be. Also yes I know that incident was not the fault of DayZ and I love the concept of evil bandits as long as they play fair it's just they are everywhere not to mention identifying friendlies is a nightmare (that is outside of TG's domain). Looking forward to when things like this are different. :row__690:

God, I seriously want to rage and quit this mod because of something that happened this evening. Had a nine day character, nine fricking day character, get tagged in Stary along with two other TGers by some guy with a thermal scope. One shot, one kill for each of us. Then I finally get to Target to see it's raided. The fences are down, my SAW is gone, everything we've worked for is gone. It breaks my damn heart and I shouldn't care about it, but I do. It was awful.

AND ON TOP OF THAT; my MP5SD just disappeared due to the yellow chain of death. Graah. I need alcohol now.
