  • What to try next?

So Taviana is pretty played out evidently - what would people like to see tried next? DayZ Epoch? DayZ Origins? The version of DayZ (with latest mods) on a different map, such as Namalsk?

Why is Tavania played out? What happened?

Once everyone's thoroughly explored the map - when you know every nook and crannie - I think it just loses some of the magic. Areas get claimed bases get built, and it's no longer a challenge to survive. You basically win the game.

Having a new map to explore and try to scratch out an existence on would be a fun change of pace - like what happened when we went from Chenarus to Taviana. :)

Just an opinion but the lure of DayZ for many people is the thrill of the hunt for resources. What weapon can I find, what vehicle can I get, what can I build? Once you explore that, find what you are going to find and run through some pvp or bandit battles it just turns into a loot collecting game and gets boring. I understand why YT was trying to shake things up an keep it interesting exploring different phases of the game, but even the bandits get bored over time.

I still enjoy the size and scope of the maps and like to look for chopper crash sites to let my brain take a rest from RL but the challenge slips away over time. I think you will see a similar cycle every time we may strip the server and reboot with a different map or game mode. Big interest during the exploration phase and waning interest during the fat and happy stage. DayZ is a great game and one of my all time favorites but I see the same cycle repeating itself over and over. I am up for any new mode. Origins looks pretty interesting. Any change will be a change.

Epoch...I think Epoch can actually be run on any map... Just we need to find a map that is a really big hit so we can draw in the players...

Epoch on Chernarus with either a 9 hour day/night cycle or standard 24 hour cycle (they have build-able lights and generators!)

                    Re: What to try next?

My vote is for a Utes pvp server. Utes is a much smaller map, forcing survivors to bump into each other often.

                    Something completely different. I'm not
really interested in repeating the same
cycle again on a different map. I played
on a few in the past, and they are a
tremendous amount of fun. Even Sarge, a normally
non pvp guy, loved it. It's great for honing
your PvP skillz. One server I frequented
had a city of custom buildings including
nearly every type of building in Dayz allcentered on the airstrip. Which we could do. Battles were intense.
                    Zippy I were hold
up in an apartment building for weeks, killing anyone who entered our ao, wicked
fun. It's more like a bf server in that sense.
You're not as invested, so you can come
on the server for a short time, have some
fun, and then leave feeling good, not
                    worried about someone stealing your
beans. It's still Dayz, still about survival,
just condensed. Also, it's going to be an
island off Chernarus in the Stand alone,
so it will be good for everyone to learn it.

                    I would propose:
                    - custom spawn loadouts with civilian guns, and most, if not all survivlal gear
                    - Custom buildings for better firefights,
and places to defend. (I will volunteer to
                    place all the buildings)
                    - lots of choppa crashes for more
                    weapons
                    - Lots of vehicles, cause that makes it
                    even more fun
                    - Keep the super high Zed count to spice
                    it up.
                    - keep the skins we have now

I second everything Bear just said, Utes would be absolutely GREAT.

                            What to try next?

To toss something "completely different" into the mix for those of you looking for PvP, the wasteland mod is a good place to start. Especially the sa-matra version. Though it is not DayZ.

I think I'll just play on a regular vanilla server. The recent patch is a lot of fun and makes the game difficult through scarcity.
