  • [GUIDE] Proficiency Ratings

Not that I'm really in charge here or anything, and believe me if anyone else wants to take over just speak up, but I've been grading all the currently flying pilots and rating their skills in various areas, and I thought I would explain a little more what I was looking for in each area so you can understand how your scores are being calculated.

There are basically 12 categories and pilots get a percent based number for each category, that is then averaged into their ability. This is not determining skill, it's a simple test of 'can a pilot do this task'.

    Flight
    Can the pilot not crash.
Operate the aircraft for 20 minutes or more without crashing into the ground or into another pilot.

    Taxi
Can the pilot taxi the airplane.
    2 Taxis to the runway
Can the pilot taxi the airplane without going off the runway.
2 Taxis to the runway without going off the tarmac
Can the pilot taxi the airplane and locate the proper runway.
1 Taxi where the pilot also locates the correct runway on a large airbase.

    MF Displays
Can the pilot read the MFDs.
The pilot must set up his DTC.
The pilot must bring up the HSD while in flight, then return to the FCR.
The pilot must bring up the SMS page, and then return to the HSD.
Can the pilot operate the MFD modes well enough to find a setting if he is told what screen it is on?
Random directions are given to find a screen while the pilot is flying the aircraft.

    Navigation
Can the pilot open the HSD and find his course.
Pilot must open the HSD page on the SMS and put himself on the proper course.
Can the pilot navigate the steerpoints.
Pilot must fly an entire route unassisted while selecting the proper steerpoints.
Can the pilot follow the plot line and also arrive on time.
Pilot must fly an entire route unassisted, hitting every steerpoint +/- 30 Seconds from goal.

    DED
Can the pilot find his groundspeed.
Pilot must demonstrate he can find his airpseed.
Can the pilot find his way back to the main screen.
Pilot must demonstrate his way back to the main page.
Can the pilot change his steerpoint.
Pilot must change his steerpoints through an entire flight.
Can the pilot change his preset radio frequency.
Pilot must change frequency preset on his radio.

    Comms
This will involve IFC training. The criteria for this hasn't been fully developed yet.
Currently everyone, including me, has a 0% rating here.

    Takeoff
Can the pilot get the aircraft into the air.
Pilot must make four consecutive takeoffs without mishap.

    Landing
Can the pilot get the aircraft back on the ground.
Pilot must make four consecutive landings, at least two must be in the same flight as takeoffs and the flight must last longer then 5 minutes.

Pilot must fly in formation with a wing leader for at least five minutes through at least three turns.
Can the pilot rejoin a flight when lost.

Can the pilot setup a datalink.
Pilot must setup a datalink for his flight.
Can the pilot read a datalink.
Pilot must demonstrate knowing how to use the datalink to find his flight.
Can the pilot provide targeting information to a buddy in a knifefight.
Pilot must lock up an enemy aircraft for a friendly aircraft engaged in a dogfight.
Can the pilot lock up an assigned target correctly.
