  • Adjusting to PR:ArmA II from PR:BF2/ArmAII+ACE

Feel free to offer your own insights and tips to adjusting to this new dimension of TvT gaming. I'm not suggesting compare and contrast... I'm suggesting this as a way to tell convey to people whats what via something they can relate with or flat out telling them... YOU CAN'T RELATE to it at all from past experiences because of XYZ reasons.

The basic idea though is that you view the mod from a lense of ArmAII+Ace or PR:BF2 analogies/analogues. My time with ACE is much smaller than PR:BF2 so many of my analogies come from that area.

    Example/First ones:
    1.ViewDistance/Engagements
In PR:BF2 View Distance defines your engagement ranges
In PR:ArmAII weapons define your engagement ranges

    2. FOps
In PR:BF2 FOps/FOs can be deployed anywhere
In PR:ArmaII FOps/FOs can be deployed only in locations significantly far from an objective.

    3. Deployables
In PR:BF2 deployables are directly attached to the FOps
In PR:ArmAII deployables are unrelated to FOps (can be placed anywhere)

Don't forward bases have limited placement in PR:BF2 as well?

Flanking in PRBF2 means about three extra minutes of walking, at most.
Flanking in PRA2 means a five minute walk in the least.

Fire and Forget in PRBF2 means the rocket lands where your reticle was pointing no more than two seconds after you drop the tube.
Fire and Forget in PRA2 means the rocket tracks a target from a kilometer+ away through trees, at night, with flight times in excess of five seconds possible.

Logistics in PRBF2 are Crates. Crates may be dropped at any speed from a helicopter or ferried in under fifteen minutes to anywhere on the map.
Logistics in PRA2 are Crates. And boxes. And fuel drums. You must land and wait for them to be extracted, or wait 5-30 minutes for a truck to trundle along to you.

Rapidly changing situations in PRBF2 can see the battle lines shift half a kilometer in two minutes.
Rapidly changing situations in PRA2 can see battle lines shift four+ kilometers in three minutes.

CQB in PRBF2 is about knife skills and managing reloads.
CQB in PRA2 is about not being dumb enough to get trapped in CQB.

I laughed out loud on that one. Thanks needed it.

Honestly what I'm struggling most with is swapping between the control sets. Keeps me confused :)
