  • An award worth posting about

On November 16, 2010, Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta of the 173rd Airborne
will become the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam
War. Well deserved in my opinion. He didn't let his buddy get carried off by the enemy, and that's what makes him that guy.

        I'm in awe.

The courage shown by every member of our armed forces, every minute of every day, is truly inspiring. I don't even saying "Thanks" can convey the appreciation and indebtedness we have for these men and women.

I highly recommend the documentary Restrepo. It is very moving and very good. Severe Clear is another movie/doc with all real footage and follows a Lt. In the USMC during the beginning of the War in Iraq in 2003. He brought along a camcorder and you see footage from his deployment to Baghdad.

Is Restrepo available? I have seen a few sections but not the whole thing.

Re: An award worth posting about

And on a downer note about this:
                          http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmem....php?ref=fpblg
One of the heads of the far right Christian American Family Association vehemently disagrees with this.

Fischer's take? "So the question is this: when are we going to start awarding the Medal of Honor once again for soldiers who kill people and break things so our families can sleep safely at night?"

"We have feminized the Medal of Honor," Fischer wrote. He also quoted General Patton: "Gen. George Patton once famously said, 'The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other guy die for his.'"
Link to the guy's blog saying this:
                          http://www.afa.net/Blogs/BlogPost.aspx?id=2147500421

I would suggest our culture has become so feminized that we have become squeamish at the thought of the valor that is expressed in killing enemy soldiers through acts of bravery. We know instinctively that we should honor courage, but shy away from honoring courage if it results in the taking of life rather than in just the saving of life. So we find it safe to honor those who throw themselves on a grenade to save their buddies.
Where the hell does this guy get off?

                            Irony...
Q: How many members of Congress does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. There is nothing wrong with the light bulb; its conditions are improving every day. Any reports of its lack of incandescence are delusional spin from the liberal media. That light bulb has served honorably, and anything you say undermines the lighting effort. Why do you hate freedom?!?
