  • Representing TG at the SISU & PRTT Community event (300 players, May 27th @ 1800 PRT)

    Hey all!

I'm signed up to be a Squad Leader (Backup Commander) at the 300 player community event coming up late in the month. Given the number of participants, this is going to be a heavily organized session, with both teamwork and mumble mandatory for all participants, as well as advance signups for CO's and SL's. http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f376...ity-event.html

I think this is a great opportunity for TG to represent our community and help improve the experience/challenge for all involved. That being said, I'd especially like to see if people are interested in being SL's on my team/NCO roles in my squad if I get into either of those positions. As far as I can remember, these will be a maximum of 18 man squads (small platoon strength); if I end up as an Infantry SL, I'm going to either run a 13 man section with three fireteams or an 18 man platoon with four fireteams and a Platoon sergeant, so I am definitely going to need familiar faces for the NCO roles in the unit.

Squad member sign-ups aren't up yet on the forums, but if you're interested in participating in the event, indicate here. Also indicate if you're interested in working in my unit and how you'd like to contribute (as well as for any other TG members that step forward to be Squad Leaders)

Also, I think we all know who we really need representing TG on the commander side of things. AFSoccer, are you going to be available on that day? I will happily SL/be a backup commander for you if you want to do that.

You can sign up on the PRWC forums.

            http://prteamwork.com/

            "Dates to keep in mind:
14th of May - CO/SL signups. They open at 18PRT.
20th of May - SM signups. They open at 18PRT.
27th of May - Battle commences at 18PRT."

I'm pretty sure they won't get 300 players signed up in time. I doubt the server and/or new map(s) will handle 200+ players.

17 man squads? Not possible to manage.

No idea why it was removed from the PR forums.

I signed up for logistics and for my part managing 17 people wouldn't be hard since most of them would be manning assets or digging/driving.
Infantry wise it will be more like playing CO with a 17man team, which isn't an outrageous concept.
Deploying and controlling a 17 man Armor squad/platoon would be much harder.
But since they took the thread down I doubt this will reach 300 but even a 64 v 64 battle would be a lot of fun.

                Sign ups closed.

Wicca: Due to organizational problems. And some internal issues, we have decided to call of the event. And reorganize. Please stand by for further updates.

It won't go ahead. Hopefully they will do a 100 man event of something. Anything more destroys the gameplay.

there is not really a map right now that would fit for 300 players i think.

17 man squads... that's half a current team. I find 8 way too hectic.

They were going to use a new map that would of been kept secret until the event. I doubt it would be suitable either.

I'd assume its an 8 KM map, as i doubt 4km can comfortably fit 300 players. However, I think an 8km would do quite well. If you look at a map like kashan 64 right now on a normal server, you notice that there is quite a lack of players. If all the assets are taken theres something like 1 infantry squad out on the field, and thats not really enough to get an interesting match. However, if you quadruple the area of the map, and put ~5x as many players on it, it would probably fit nicely.

Regarding 17 man squads, I dont really see how that wouldn't work. The squad leader will just need to act more like a commander does currently and less like the leader for a small unit. The squad leader would need to assign fireteam leaders and split up the squad though, and each fireteam could communicate mostly via mumble. A 17man squad would also be idea for stuff like mech inf. 2 APC's, 1 SL and 2 fireteams of 6 infantry is quite a nice self sufficient unit that can move quickly about the map, and you wouldn't have the current problem of not being able to use ingame voip with the apc drivers. It is also great for armor squads, since its an uneven amount of players in the squad, you would be able to have 8 tanks in a squad, without having to have the SL drive or gun one of the tank. That means he's free to do the rather big task of organizing 8 tanks into proper formations, coordinating with the rest of the team, etc.

Generally I think this will work very well if everyone is dedicated to making it work. Especially the SL's and the CO, since they are so very pivotal in the huge job of keeping a 150 man team coordinated.

I would have liked it if they could have pushed up the squad creation limit. It is ashame they haven't got around that yet. I guess 18 man squad sizes can work like Ferilice has stated.

The guy at the top makes all the orders, splits up his fire teams, with perhaps armoured vehicles and infantry units. The SL doesn't have to get involved in the fighting, yet, can direct the fighting on the ground and see it all unfolding. I can see how that would work. Whatever the case, I would still find leading a 17 man squad by yourself, hectic to say the least. So fire-teams and separating your squads with the use of fire teams would be essential. People don't like going commander currently to command a full team, this would be sort of the same somewhat. You would also have more responsibility on your shoulder. One bad SL could screw up the entire team's efforts.

Whatever the case, it is only a test to see how it would work out, so hopefully it goes well, whenever it gets back off the ground again.

Don't fight a battle if you don't gain anything by winning.

Hmm.. I did not know they hadn't figured out a way to increase the numbers of squads yet. Thats a shame.

However, there should be a way around it. For small specialist squads like sniper/spotter could either integrate into another infantry squad or could simply be squadless and communicate over mumber or TS while still functioning as a small squad.

                          Anyway. I'm excited.

Well I have heard and looked into it.

Apparently in the squad limit files or creation limit, it included several other squads. (i.e. it looked as if the intent was for EA/DICE to include more than 9 squads originally, but it never got implemented by them) I'm not sure if the PR team has done any work toward that, but it certainly has not been shown on the 128/116 test server so, maybe they are still working on it. I just hope they can crack that. That to me would really be another ground breaking thing which would support 128 servers for me.

I'm not sure where we stand with claiming we 'represent TG' in an external event if it hasn't been officially sanctioned by TacticalGamer. I'll ask around.
