  • PR Highlights: .96 map loadscreens. Things to note:

    http://realitymodfiles.com/ancient/096mapoverviews/

The main things to note according to this update:

Many maps now have AASv4 incorporated (as AAS Routes)

Shijia Valley: Added. Congratulations to [R-DEV] AF-SOCCER for completing his map for release!

    Wanda Shan: REMOVED.

Insurgency Layers added to Operation Dragonfly.

AAS Layers added to Korengal Valley and Gaza Beach.

    Iron Eagle:
Both Layers: No anti-aircraft vehicles. Players will have to rely on MANPADS and their own aircraft for air defense.
64 Layer: now has JETS instead of attack helicopters (this could also possibly mean additional transport helos). Flag layout no longer includes Cave Bunker; Artillery and Radar station start out neutral, and the mid point will randomly be either Alkomin or Bijar.
32 Layer: Additional flags throughout. This layer has attack helicopters (and a light helo for MEC).
16 Layer: Same ostensible flag layout as 32 layer.

    Al Basrah:
32 Layer: Includes Lynx and Chinook.

    Ramiel (Confirmed by Hautecloque)
32 Layer: US Marines instead of US Army as Blufor.

    Kokan:
32 Layer: Canada instead of US Army as Blufor.

    Qwai River:
    Helicopters removed from all layers.

    Jabal Al Burj:
Time of day and weather changed to midday and likely clear skies.

    Silent Eagle:
Alternative layer added with gunship(s) for Germany and Russia, and no jets.

Any other observations, point them out. :D

No idea how upset I am that perhaps one of the best and most unique maps is gone.

    Seriously. WTF.

I suggest that all future maplists have at least some Wanda Shan map to play.

I can't wait until Shijia Valley is released. I still have some footage from the TG scrimmage on my HD that I've been dying to upload...

By the way, Marines on Ramiel is going to kick ass, seriously.

I'm most excited about the addition of jets to Iron Eagle. Seriously one of the best maps to fly jets, they had the runways and everything, and they claimed it was too hard to land on the runways so they put in attack helos instead. And this was back when the ninja lumberjacks hadn't clearcutted the trees in Abandoned Airfield on Silent Eagle. I tested landing on them and it was no harder than on Silent Eagle. Glad they're giving a jet layer a chance for pubbing.

Wanda shan... gone ... sniff sniff...
NOW where will i find explosive tree stumps that will annihilate tanks,
and terrain that does more damage to your vehicle than the enemy does,
Oh and the incindiary grenades that have a 20M radius to kill your tank from.

            What a loss :(

I did like the maps layout, and landscape, but not the ... yea..

And you now know why you don't drive into forests with small amounts of armor. Really Wanda would have been really interesting with an alt layer that was Mechanized Based and had little to no tanks and then a decent amount of attack helos.

Many maps exist despite of gameplay flaws why not this one?

Thanks JaFaR. I'm excited to finally see it hit the streets, so to speak. Hopefully you guys will like it. :)

                  Lack of New Maps

As Rudd said, the PR Team has several maps that are 90% complete but were not ready for official release. Sometimes this is due to waiting on static objects or vehicles, optimization problems, or real world issues that pulled the mapper away. But anticipate some new maps later this year. If we have to, we may issue a separate map pack independent of a patch/release. More to come on that.

                  Wanda Shan

PR Management did not pull Wanda Shan, the map's designer did. Maybe after he sees how many people will miss it, we can incorporate it into a future release with AASv4, etc. No promises though, but I wanted to clarify why it was removed.

                  AASv4

AASv4 was integrated into several maps and I think you guys will like the result. Not only should it focus the action on those larger maps but it will bring you to places on a map that maybe you've never had to fight over. For those maps that didn't get AASv4, it either didn't work well due to the layout (like Kozelsk) or the map would have required a complete re-vamp to make it work properly (like Kashan).

                  Optimization

This wasn't mentioned in AncientMan's post but you'll see more about it in the change log when it's released... but the team spent a lot of time on this patch fixing bugs and optimizing, so you'll probably notice some improvement on maps where you used to have issues.
