  • A guide to playing on a public server.

Due to Tactical Gamer's success on the whole, the server is usually full, leading to fun-filled forays into the wilds of Pubbie PR Servers, the following are some travel tips:

    1. Check the TG server for spaces. The novelty of pubbie play wares off in about .00001 seconds.
    2. If no slots are going to become available, steer clear of the servers with "Teamplay" in the names. They are usually filled with the refuse of the TG server.
    3. Stick a sign on your back that indicates loudly you are not an admin, you have no power to clear bans, and you are in no position to apologize for an "unfair ban"
    4. Avoid VOIP squads on almost every server. They are the least cohesive on average, but are filled with chat. Fun for some, not for others.
    5. Check the TG server, again, always take a break during your many incurred deaths to check for a space.
    6. Create a bind for "It's in the manual" Trust me. You will use it. A lot.
    7. Check TG again.
    8. Purchase a new chair and play while dizzy, it's fun!
    9. Become a supporting member to TG so you can always join.
    10. Don't get into an argument about anything. The dredges of the internet will always argue for the sake of arguing, and unlike TG, there are no admin angels who care (exceptions have yet to be found by me)
11-100. Check TG as often as you can.
Feel free to post any tips.

    Cheers.

Re: A guide to playing on a public server.

I saw some animal hunter guy do a show on this once. A transcript of the venture into the wilds of pubbie servers goes something like this:

Animal Hunter: Welcome to the wiiild world of public PR servers. As we all know, everyone loves to play at TacticalGamer. However, sometimes you just cant play there. So today, for your educational benefit, we're going to roam around and see what things we can find today.
          (joins a random server)

Animal Hunter: Ooooh, look at this folks, a wild bunch of mass-teamkillers. You want to keep your distance from these fellas, since they'll shoot you for the vehicle you're driving, or even the kit off your back! Sometimes they just do it for fun. Let's move on.

          (five minutes later)

Animal Hunter: Keep your eyes on the chat window boys and girls, I have a fully grown Smacktard dead in my sights.
          (*kills smacktard with headshot)
Animal Hunter: Oh, now look at the chat screen light up! Notice all the accusations of hacking and how if he had seen me first I was going to be dead. Now here comes the name calling and swearing! This really is a live one! Good thing he will have to spawn somewhere far away from me.

          (a few minutes later)
Animal Hunter: Now what we have here is an abusive admin. You really want to avoid these guys, but its not always possible because they're a bit crazy and wont hesitate to ban you for absolutely no reason at all. Whenever you see one of these guys around, make sure not to take any vehicles, kits or even do anything remotely threatening. Simply walk around your UCB in a disorganized fashion like you're lost.

Animal Hunter: So boys and girls, I hope you've learned a few things today! It's a crazy world out there, make sure you stay safe and play at TacticalGamer! Otherwise, make sure you keep a high dose of patience and calm on hand, because you're going to need it if you encounter any of the things I've shown you today! Until next time!
