    It isn't real. People have been hex-editing BF2's server software for years, trying to get more than 64 players. None have succeeded. People in the past have gotten the server browser to say that there are 128 slots, but when a 65th player joins, always fail.

        There are a couple maps that have a 128 Player version for it in PR, but no server supports 128 Players at the moment.

          I think that BF2 was originally supposed to support 128 players but it was changed to 64 in the final version

            yep, the editor is full of traces for 128 player support, but i guess they ditched it in the end..

                    It is not real. Nobody can get 128 players. EA didn't do it because

                    A. Their maps were not big enough
                    B. They couldn't possibly put in so many networkable objects and the game still be stable.

                    For SURE, nobody else can put 128 players on a server because

                    A. They cannot modify the server-side BF2 engine
                    B. The software is not stable enough
                    C. EA will shut down their server
                    D. They cannot modify the client-side engine

                        if a (good) engine supported more than 64 players, we would move to that engine in a heart beat.

                        I disagree with sheep, I think PR would rock with 128 players and I dont think it would be a disaster at all, and I think many gamers would love that kind of large scale battlefield.

                          Indeed if you could get any game to work with 128 players I'd give it a go. With a PR or ARMA style game play it would be epic.
