  • Future maps and TG.

As Im going through all these maps that the DEV's just threw up for viewing, http://realitymodfiles.com/ancient/09mapoverviews/, I see a lot of good layouts that I think would be awesome, but Im afraid they wont be put into rotation.

Can anyone say that well play the maps in smaller size? I know we can go through 16/32/64 layout, but the size never changes, just the assets.

Can we cross that bridge when we get there? The last thing I think anyone should worry about is what layer maps we'll play - it hasn't even been released yet. Let's just enjoy it for a while - we'll get plenty of time to play the different layers (if I can get Cougar to not make our server a 24/7 Qinling 32 server)

Honestly with, if the Highlight #5 was gospel, less than ten days until PR 0.9 comes out, I think it -is- time to start thinking about it.

One person posted this helpful info:

      Hamas - 2 maps (2 1km)
      Canada - 2 maps (1 4km, 1 2km)

I'm a little confused, though, GB vs. CHE makes no sense..

I used a list randomizer to generate this possible maplist:

Asad Khal 1km - IDF vs. HAM
Lashkar Valley 2km - GB vs. TAL
Fools Road 2km - GB vs. CHE
Operation Barracuda 2km - USMC vs. PLA

Al Basrah 2km - GB vs. INS
Silent Eagle 4km - USA vs. RUS
Fallujah West 1km - USMC vs. INS

What's funny is that it's a pretty good maplist.. no insurgency of forest or anything is near each other and it's all nicely spread out O.o

        Re: Future maps and TG.

        23 maps x 3 layers each = 69 map variations.

        Sweet.

In some of the maps, the 32/alternative version is a "vehicle" mode on maps that don't require 16/32/64 versions by default (Like Muttrah w/ the tanks on 32 version)

            Layers =/= Modes.
            Kashan AAS 64/32/16 =/= Kashan CNC 64/32/16

Though it may certainly be the case that the maps with no 32 layer happen to have that Vehicle Warfare mode, or it could indeed be AAS32 with an abundance of armor nicknamed "Vehicle Warfare mode" in the loading screen shot.

I've heard nothing of this new "mode", so if you've got some info I don't hand it over already.

No more info than is visible in the overview images, although I'd imagine it's simply an alternate layout of the map with radically different types of vehicles.

Separated infantry only and vehicle servers anyone?
I just hope the maplist will shift more towards combined arms according to the new maps and changes.
In other words, i don't want to se any old variation on the server for months, lets break in those shiny new places and tactics!

I don't think the intention of the Vehicle Combat mode is to focus purely on vehicles only, but to introduce a different type of battle altogether with heavier ground assets.

Unless it's just a tank-on-tank fest with 50 tanks laying around, but I doubt that the devs would do that.

As a player I would expect Vehicle Combat mode to be about vehicles, and how much heavier can ground assets get?

Well, look at it this way.

Here we have Muttrah City. It's a good, balanced map, with relatively light assets -- APCs (No IFVs w/ TOWs), a Cobra (considered a 'medium' attack helicopter), and transport helicopters.

Okay, so let's take that map and look at the Vehicle Mode overview. What we see:

                            1) US Main is at docks.
                            2) Both sides have tanks, but no other heavy asset.
                            3) Both sides have transport trucks, suggesting infantry combat is still expected.
                            4) The flags are very large, and few in number, indicating that the vehicles will be what are needed to control the flags, but the presence of trucks still suggests infantry will have a role.

So in reality all we have here is a more freeform version of the map with heavier assets. Honestly I'd classify assets like this:

                            "Light" Assets
                            BRDM
                            Humvee
                            Transport Helicopters
                            Scout littlebirds
                            Transport/Logistics Trucks
                            .50 Caliber APCs (Stryker)

                            "Medium" Assets
                            APCs w/o TOW (BTR, LAV)
                            AAVs
                            Cobra

                            "Heavy" Assets
                            Tanks
                            Apache/Havok
                            BMPs/Bradleys
                            Jets

On a completely unrelated but slightly similar note, something I noticed was that on normal Muttrah 64 AAS, the MEC now are shown with light vehicles, suggesting that they get BRDMs on top of the BTRs that they already get :)

Vehicle Warfare is about vehicles only. You can't get infantry kits, RPs, FOs, etc. All about vehicle on vehicle. In this release, mainly tanks. I will post more info later on, before release.

That may be boring for some of you, but it may not be for others, and we aren't really sure how it's going to play out, so let's see how it goes. ;)
