  • the maplist thread

    One thing that TG can be weak on is the maplists can be boring, so I thought we should have a maplist thread

    this thread isn't really for discussion, its just so people can post up a list they think is good for the admins to consider and apply if they deem it appropriate (unless there is something seriously flawed in a list ofc)

    when suggesting a list, remember a few things

    1) people don't like playing the same teams over and over
    2) people would rather self castrate themselves than play INS/Tali over and over
    3) people might not like long maps over and over
    4) the first 2 maps should be all rounders for seeding

      Yes it is nearly ALL 16 layer, but that is rockin'. My first stab at a list, I think it would be a fun nights gaming.

        Just so all the fantasy maplist makers know:

        1) Beirut is bugged. There are too many ladders on the map and because of this as soon as a player enters one of the "magic" ladders, the whole server crashes.
        2) Cnc Is still bugged and bleeds too fast on your team loses their FOB, thereby ending the game immediately.
        3) Dragon Fly has all kinds of performance/lag issues for people and is not playable for about 90% of the population
        4) Make sure you space out your insurgency maps and other faction maps so that the same does not play the same faction twice. This means you put two maps between every insurgency map, not one.
        5) People leave the server when the old PR maps come on (or so I'm told), so only run the new maps.

        I'm sure there are other map issues that I'm leaving out - those are just off the top of my head.

        Have fun.

          Don't forget that for some maps the Russians are considered Bluefor. This means you may end up playing Russians two or three times in a row if you put these back-to-back with Opfor Russian maps.

          You'll probably see some of these map lists implemented soon, so have at 'em!

          I didn't join a squad once and this guy named Nardini took me into the back room and beat me with a sock of oranges.

              i miss some of the older maps. i was surprised to see operation baracuda the other day. i say start cycling in someone the older maps. i wish there was more insurgency. i seem to always catch iron ridge and silient eagle, which get old.

                All I can say is Iron-ridge skirmish is not a good seeder map. And I think people are getting sick of back-to-back Russian maps.

                        that's sad...and interesting, because i've seen it run on other servers. is this just specific to TG or what?

                        It's Archer, and nobody likes Archer - holdover from when (quite recently) it was a farce. I personally would think that with the changes to insurgency mode it'd be at least playable now, but that might be just me.

                        I dunno, I like this one (fixed from my previous list) ...Muttrah always is a popular map, even now, as is qwai, and putting cuda and archer (the other two old maps) at the end of the rotation means that they'll get played less due to the server crashing and getting restarted at the beginning or somewhere.

                            That's because no one has addressed the root of the issue.

                            If the list is ~8 maps long then it will tend to be repeated each day, this also happens if each day the same map is used to seed.

                            Changing the maplist every day (requiring a restart) is impractical, all we need instead is a longer maplist with multiple maps suitable for seeding:

                            A maplist like this would last about 3 days without repetitionv (apart from different layers) if allowed to run, there are 3 maps placed as seeders (though others could be used too) for use at the start of the day or after crashes.

                              No, you're all ignoring the fact that I restart the server every morning to try to keep performance acceptable.

                              We change the maplist every few days. Obviously we're not doing a good enough job. Muttrah has been the seeder since Monday. Apparently it is stale already. We'll try a new list tomorrow.
