    What: Distinguished Squad Leader (PR)

Who: ZaBoo, Rudd_medicman, AnimalMother, AlmightyLion, Spitfire14

Where: The TG Project Reality Server

When: Continues high performance over the last year, with a few exceptions rudd and animal.

How: When I think leadership on the Project Reality server the above names come to mind*. This is either for their in squad tactics or because they preform well working with other squads. Other people look to these as the leaders and I have had the pleasure of seeing a side have only one or two squads because people were waiting fore some of the nominees to make a squad. If people think that these people are such good leaders that they will sit waiting for a person to return to make a squad why do they not nominate them for a ribbon?

Since no-one else is doing it I decided that I would nominate them. And because I am a bit lazy I am doing all in one big nomination since if I understand the way this works correctly. It is the admins for the game that will be voting for the ribbons and they all know who these are. The reason I think it is due now is that I was browsing through the ribbons forum and noticed of the people that are high on my list of squad leaders only one or two have received a ribbon for their efforts in the last year.

The reason I think they are deserving is that these people continually perform on a high level in the role of squad leader. I think that a continues high standard deserves recognition especially since some of these people have been keeping the high standards for years now.

Hope you agree with me that continues high performance deserves a ribbon and will give these people what I consider a well deserved ribbon no matter their current class because they deserve to step up a notch.

    [email protected]

    Who: [email protected]

    Recommended Award: Distinguished SL

    Game/Server: PR / TG Public

Place and Time: Monday, February 15, 2010 - 10:15 PM(?); Iron Ridge

Nomination: [email protected] was our SL, Sq 3, on the Millitant side. He led us to capture the West City Flag, then to Pump House to capture that flag, while at pump house he kept us together by our technical in the river bed. 3 BTR's rolled in above us and we stayed until the flag was secured, we then moved in our technical to the Waste Station, we patrolled around the village and waste station and discovered 3 enemy FOB's which we destroyed. We then occupied a building NW of Waste and captured the flag. We occupied the top floor and held the building for about 30 minutes. He stationed us around the floor and we put up a good fight. Squad members were |TG-Irr|Aeron, SK Superfly, Pyromanciac USMC, |TG-Irr|brettwad. We then respawned at main and headed out again through West City and riverbed, we came up south of Pump to help out and secure this flag, he marked another enemy FOB (number 4) and destroyed it too. We exited out of the area under BTR fire and made our way to Waste again. He marked another enemy FOB (number 5) and we destroyed it. In the pursuing firefight we cleared the area of enemies but took major casualties including the SL. He then had us spawn at the FOB built southwest of Waste by the barn. We moved north and he marked another enemy FOB (number 6), which we destroyed. We then moved to the NW buildings and setup our defense again. We held for about another 20 minutes and squad was wiped out again. But flag was neutralized. We respawned and moved across the southern village at Waste Station, he had one SM spawn at main and bring out a Logi truck. We built a FOB on the east side of the village which allowed our other squads to spawn closer to the waste station. As we moved north on the east side of the village he marked another enemy FOB (number 7), which we destroyed again. He moved his squad around the map and helped the team to capture flags with our presence. He directed the squad on several key points when we were assaulting different areas. His squad was top squad for this map that night. His direction and leadership was key in the work the squad did.

I would be a member of his squad anytime.

Award: Distinguished Squad Leader Class I

    Awardees:

    Startrekern

    Game/Server: Project Reality TacticalGamer server

Place and Time: I am not sure when he first started excelling himself in the SL role, however I know for certain he has been consistently for filling this role while I have been at TG (6 months +)

    Nomination:

I have seen many good squad leaders in my time in Project Reality, and some not so good. In my experience a good SL is made not by skill with his weapons or his knowledge of a map. But in his ability to think on his feet, adapting his tactics to the situation at hand.

Startreckern has a fantastic grasp of this. No matter what happens he always keeps a hold of the squad, leading them through impossible situations which I'm sure many other squads would have failed. A very good example of this is his leadership in squads on the brand new maps in Project Reality 0.9. He has little or no experience with these maps and therefore has no choice but to think on the move, taking advantage of terrain that he stumbles upon. He does this with no problem what so ever.

Star is also a dedicated user of Mumble to communicate to other squads in game. He see's communication between squads as an absolute must for a successful team. Last week, when mumble was having connection problems Star was the first to come in TS asking what was wrong with it. When it was uncovered that it was down, although it was clear this was a problem for Star's SL style he still got in game and used other methods of communication!

Class III requires a long term dedication to the role. I believe that Star has demonstrated this, whenever I see him in-game he is SL, 99% of the time. He withholds the TG principles all time time, he is always happy to have non-TG players in his squad and to show them how to play tactically the TG way.

Star has consistently shown his ability to lead a successful squad, in any situation, whether it be infantry or armor, by communicating with other squads and thinking on his feet. In my opinion he is one of the best SL's in PR, and my only regret is that he is not a TGU instructor.

    Squad Leader nomination - Skud

I am submitting this nomination for a leader on the server who has been overlooked.

Skud has been successfully leading squads at TG since I arrived on the server some 3 years ago.

He is tactically astute, teamwork focused and innovative in his approach. Being a regular SL myself with extremely high standards it takes a lot to impress me. I have clear ideas as to what constitutes a competent Leader, my criteria broadly :-

    - Teamwork orientated - The nominee has this in abundance, I have been a member of squads in which Skud has acted as the CO appointed defacto ground commander in which he has demonstrated a high level of understanding of the requirements of each squad, the overall mission and the how each squad plays a part in achieving the common goal along with what support they will require. Most recently a round of Insurgency on Falluhja West in which BluFor took almost zero casualties for the first hour or so of the game and inflicted losses exceeding 200 kills on our opponents and the destruction of several caches. This was achieved through excellent organisation and co-ordination.

The nominee is always looking to link up with other leaders on the server and play the game in a tactical, organised manner, demonstrating the core values of TG and the primer.

    - Tactically astute and innovative - The nominee is one of the more original thinkers at TG and is always looking to experiment with formation, tactics and drills. The recent squad nomination made by Skud himself in respect of a round played on Mestia in which Skud’s squad experimented with tactics and maintained a near 20 - 0 K/D and fulfilled its objectives. As a member of that squad I can assure it what as effective and well organised as the write up describes.

Skud was one of the first of the 6th Devils to really push the use of mumble within our IHS as a comms tool, ensuring that we as a group were able to effectively communicate with our teammates.

Many SL’s who have been rightly recognised for their abilities simply learn the maps by wrote, studying the best locations for this, the best position for that. Whilst this level of research is admirable it personally doesn’t appeal to me as the way to go on every map, breaks the immersion etc. Skud has always been prepared to innovate and adapt. On many occasions I have suggested new formations, tactics, methods etc and Skud has been willing to implement them thoroughly, to really test the theory.

I also admire the fact that he doesn’t look to win at all costs, exploiting game engine mechanics and borderline gameplay issues. He looks to win the TG way. That alone is a great example for other SL’s in the community.

    - Individual competency - Skud is a good player, simple as that, adept at the ‘game’ aspects of PR and proficient with weapons handling. He can be relied on to lead from the front where required and a take a step back and retain a more detached view of the battlefield if necessary.

I have played countless rounds with Skud as SL on an Infantry squad and they always embody to me the spirit of the primer. The rounds are tactical, realistic, teamwork orientated and fun.

I have also played in specialist squads with Skud as Sl/Spotter with myself on the gun in sniper/recon squads where we have had tremendous success. On those occasions we were able to greatly benefit the team by providing our CO with timely, accurate information on enemy disposition and movement. When it came time to put lead down range I was able to greatly improve my effectiveness on target by having the ‘senior man’ as spotter. His target indication, correction of shot, and general advice lead to us forming an extremely effective partnership. We were able to engage countless targets at absolute maximum visual range, rendering our position virtually invisible to our target due to distance and his effective site location choice.

    Example AAR

    Who: |TG-6th| Blonov, |TG-6th| AFsoccer (Class II), |TG-6th| A.Wickens (Class II), Major_Budda, Sgt.Sullivan87
    When: 2030 Central 16 SEPT 09
    Where: TG PR server

"Three words sum up one of the more enjoyable rounds I've experienced in a long time: Discipline, Discipline, and Patience.

At the beginning of the round, I moved the squad to the former EAST TOWER flag. AF Soccer made the suggestion to use a lone member of the squad as a forward scout, and if he gave the all clear we could move the whole squad up. This was a great idea, so I put A.Wickens up head of the squad to find the position of the enemies defending the East Tower. After a brief firefight, AF Soccer returned to main and got us some crates for a Fire Base. Wickens volunteered to return it to main after we were done.

We set up shop in the bunkers at East Tower with the LMG in the second story watching W-NW, the grenadier watching W, Soccer watching North for flankers, and the medic in the basement. Wickens and myself were a strike team. Using mumble with one another, we supported the team to our West as they fought for continued control of the cabin and the hills overlooking most of the western part of the map.

The Strike Team idea was a great one, because it allowed 4 guys to stay on the flag radius, in hard bunkers, and Wickens and I the freedom to engage anything our squad spotted. The enemy did manage to flank our position to the south. AF Soccer found out, and gave us the coordinates of their rally and medic. Soccer went down, and so did Wickens, but we cleared the rally and the stragglers. The medic was able to preserve our 0-death KDR for the squad. Anytime a squadmember went down (Which was a total of 4 times, maybe?) the squad had the patience to wait for the rest of the squad to clear the area. In one instance, I went down. Wickens found another medic from another squad over mumble and was able to clear the area and get me revived. Excellent use of comms continued our 0-death streak.

We ended up winning the round with no deaths in the squad. The enemy was unable to get within 100m of our position during the entire engagement due to a strong west flank held by the team and some good fire tactics in my squad.

(BTW, there were a few late round kills that brought our final kill count to 19-0 but wasn't able to get a screenshot as the round ended.)

This round was the type of gameplay I've always EXPECTED from not only the 6th devils but TG players as a whole. I was gladly rewarded tonight by having not only a flawless round for my squad but to have great comm, fire, and tactical discipline. Very enjoyable round".

I am submitting this nomination on behalf of a great player and SL who fully deserves a high grade Ribbon for his leadership abilities, I hope you see fit to grant one.

    January 13, 2010

    How?/AAR? - I've mixed them together..
I'm fairly new to the ins and outs of PR, and there are still things I don't know. I follow my SL's command to my best ability, and often do not know where I am going, and need to ask a lot of questions to learn the maps etc. I cannot give you the name of the map we played, but it has North and South bunkers.. FK had some great experience in his squad from what I could tell, and we was the main infantry squad capping these bunkers. I joined later on, and we ended up being the only infantry squad getting our suits soaked in enemy blood. His orders were very specific, and each individual was shared responsibilities, and FK kept us all under control. His manor was calm, friendly and squad communication was excellent. He knew where we all were, and what we were doing. His stratergies were well thougth out, and decisive. Failure was not an option, and we did really well against whatever we came across. (Well not all the time, but mostly)

I remember FK being the sole member still alive inside hostile quarters, and he was under attack by 3 enemies, who had wiped us all out. He ran all his ammo out trying to stay alive, and managed to survive and win the fight. Revived us all and we were in control again. Maybe this is for another ribbon another day..

I was pleased to be a part of his squad, and do the things we did so early in my PR experiences. I hope to find a space in FK's squad again sometime, as I enjoyed the level of excellence he has shown, especially when it involved helping out lesser experienced squad members.

I hope I've covered enough for this ribbon, as I feel I can't really judge it any higher than class 2.

    davemcrr

davemcrr is one of the regulars on the server who has also been active in the TG forums.

dave stands out because he does two things, he fills the roles of the team and does them well without requiring any attention. At any given night there will be a squad led by dave, always infantry and always open. dave leads new players and experience players with the same level of respect, teaches new players and keeps regulars in line and retains a calm attitude while doing so.

dave always does what is best for the team. If squads move ahead he defends the currently held flag. If the team is stagnant and pushing is the best option he will do so. He works well with other squads, using mumble to communicate with them to relay and receive information, offer or request support and supplies. The most telling part about his qualification is that his actions don't stand out because they fit the needs of the team so well.

A few examples that I have had over time as either a member of his squad or leading a squad that worked with dave's.

A push in Muttrah had the squad ahead of the rest of the team, and behind enemy lines. Although the squad members were pushing for an attack on enemy supply lines dave was coordinating with other squads and was aware that the flag we were near would be available to cap in the near future. By remaining out of contact we were able to quickly take the rear flag before the enemy could respond, defended it through some specific coordination on defense against a strong counterattack which allowed the rest of the team to press the following, and last flag to force the enemy to bleed and win instead of losing due to our teams heavy losses. His coordination at the squad and team level was a strong factor in the win.

On a game on Qwai the team had advanced across the river and were pushing on the first flag on the opposite side. During an extremely long 90 minutes our flag was not attacked, and our team was not able to secure the next flag to remove ours from danger of being overrun. Knowing that if the flag was lost the rest of the team would not be able to respond dave kept the 6 man squad alert and interested with random scouting expeditions of two players, occasional switching of roles to stay off boredom, gave some examples of good defensive positions for defense of our location and moderated a friendly discussion so it would not distract from defensive duties (I believe it was a topic on cars one of the members started to pass the time). As soon as enemies were spotted he decided on a particular defense and we were able to slow the enemy attack long enough for the forward flag to be capped, although we were eventually wiped out and the rest of the team's push had lost too many tickets so the team ended up losing.

davemcrr has lead and participated in PR squads for a couple of years at TG, and squad leading is the role he excels at.

    How?
I've had the fortune of playing with zebra through the last month, proving to me (and to the community) that he truly represents what Squad Leading and teamwork should be about in TG. Always stepping up to lead a squad and succeding every time doesn't come easy and/or natural to everyone, but it is definitely zebra's case.

One example comes to mind, back in November 2009, on a Ramiel round on the US Team, he introduced the Squad Members the "Bounding" (I don't really know what's the name) tactic, on which we moved one at a time around the map, using mumble to let know the rest of the squad members that they had to cover us and then, when we where covering them. It's by far the most realistic and fun round I've ever had while playing Project Reality.

That's only one of the good things we've done, besides patrolling with humvees and base defenses of all sorts, always encouraging the use of Mumble for enhanced realism.

That's basically why I want to nominate him and think he really deserves the Distinguished Squad Leader Ribbon.

    class: 3

"a class iii is the class where things get harder. Class iii shows the player and the community that he has consistently, over time, shown the ability to excel in the role above that of a well rounded player. A class iii is the beginning level of what is considered mastery of a role. This does not mean that a player has to be a master of the role yet, merely show that he is well on the way. A player must consistently show excellence in a role above that of a good player to be considered for a class iii. Multiple nominations from peers is preferred but not required to grant a class iii. Ask yourself, “does this nomination (or nominations) tell me that this player is moving towards mastery of a role? Does he consistently demonstrate an ability to play the role above and beyond the call of duty in a manner completely consistent with the principles of tg?"

when: tg pr server, 18/01/10, kashan desert, mec side

how: we started the round by helping to build a fire base, then returning to main. We realised that no attack helo squads had been formed, so we decided to utilise the asset. We got a sl who was able to call us in perfectly, harassing and destroying all types of enemy assets, from fb's to infantry to all varieties of armour. We were untouchable in the air due to dispo's safe and smooth flying. His high skill levels ensured a great static platform for me to work the guns from all ranges, and when we went on assault dives i always knew we would get out safe. His excellent use of the terrain was truly frightening at one point, very nap-of-the-earth. We were getting whoops of celebration on comms as for the entire round we kept the us at bay. While we would go on to lose the round, our squad, which by now included cougar as sl and 4 guys to help him spot and laze were to finish with the highest score on the entire server, dispo had the most points, and i as his gunner had the most kills, ending 39 for 1. A truly frightful display more than warranting a class 3, and i was glad to be on his side that round. Great work by him and in conjunction with the rest of the squad using this asset correctly meant we rocked the us. One of the many times he has utilised this asset to the max and about time he got the recognition.

additional notes: i do not have in my possession the screenshot, but dispo does and may be able to post it up when this makes it to the ribbons voting point.

Cougar joined and took SL as we were hopping in the Havok chopper. Forward Air Controller is a role many people try at but few perfect. Cougar proved his credentials this round. We simply decimated all enemy we engaged. His precision markers, risk assessments, intelligence and skill with lazering moving targets meant we were always exposed to the minimum of risk. This was coupled with his ability to multi task as he held the very dangerous high ground east of the bunkers. He was always engaged, at times we were called in danger close, and not once was their a teamkill thanks to his awesome skills at setting us up with ingress and egress directions to cause maximum damage to the enemy at the lowest risk to oursleves. His "squad" consisted of 3 infantry to support him and us in the air, and he was able to continue to disrupt enemy all over the map, and hold down a secure FB in the hills. A perfect example of the FAC role being properly used to devastating effect.

    What?
    Valorous Unit

    Where?
    Dragon Fly, 07FEB10

    How?

Started out the map with this team at the main. Took train depot and then moved on to the NE objective in the fields. With tank support, we were able to secure the objective and take the eastern bridge. Moving across the bridge we engaged infantry and got into a massive firefight at NorthEast City. Failed to take the objective but killed many.

Second outing we eliminated a fire base near train depot and retook it. During the game we took NE objective and train depot 3 times each.

We didn't die out totally other than 1 time during the hours long game. The squad was quite awesome. To keep a long story shorter, we moved around the entire map 2 times, took 5 objectives, killed 17 and racked up a squad total of 13469 points for the squad. Four of the 6 players went over 2047. I know points are not everything, but these points were gained by fighting, staying on objectives and engaging the enemy for over 2 hours.

One of the best rounds of PR for me to date. End kill to death ratio was something near 28-19 but I lost the last screen capture. The team won the round with over 21000 points vs. the enemies 5000 points. Our squad had about 30% of the teams kills and about 70% of its points at the end. We won the round and really put it to the enemy.

Druulen was particularly outstanding as usual with a 10-2 KtoD.

Great effort by a coherent squad. I think this deserves the Valorous Unit award.

Wait, are you mocking the system? Or am I horribly mis-interpreting your post? In any case, well deserved ribbons to alot of SLs that go un-noticed.

It is spelled 'flair' in the context of that clip, the uploader has it wrong :)

And yeah, posting that clip gives the impression that you think they are worthless :(

To be honest, I am happy to receive a ribbon. it put a smile on my face and who ever nominated me I appreciate it. That was a good round :)

Though, Ribbons are useless, it's something there to show off really. Afterall, it doesn't matter how many ribbons you got, it's all about how you conduct yourself in game with personality, character and skill.

But yeah, I'm totally gonna show off my ribbon! WOOT! :P
