  • Tactical Gamer University: Information, Requests and Announcements.

The purpose of this Thread is to give new and old members of Tactical Gamer an overview of what TGU is, what direction we are moving in and what we can offer you as a PR player.

Tactical Gamer University is the training branch of the Tactical Gamer community. We offer a wide range of courses over a wide range of games. Our job is to teach both the TG way and also improve the combat effectiveness of our students. Currently the plan is to offer a wide range of classes spanning from basic infantry to insurgency tactics and large unit operations. We will in the future be focusing on Certain subjects over a period of time. For example during the fall and early winter we will offer a number of courses centered around armour and anti-armour operations. More about this later.

    Teaching Philosophy

TGU want to offer both introductory training for people new to the mod but also offer opportunities for experienced players to learn new skills. To accomplish this we offer both basic, intermediate and advanced courses for our students, signup for these courses are open to all members of TG but some will require that you fulfill certain requirements. These requirements can either be past participation in other courses or judged by the instructor for the students that sign up.

    List of Current Courses

Currently we are able to offer the following classes for PR:
    • Basic Infantry
    • Basic Squad leader
    • Advanced Infantry: Close Quarters Combat
    • Advanced Squad Leader: General
    • Advanced Squad Leader: Large Unit Operation
    • Basic Medic
    • Basic Flight
    • Basic Attack Helicopter
    • Intermediate/Advanced Attack Helicopter
    • Basic Armour: Driver
    • Basic Armour: Gunner
    • Advanced Armour

    Course Development

TGU is always developing new courses and improving existing ones to offer the students the best possible experience. We are currently working on
    • Anti-Armour Tactics
    • Sniper/Recon Course
    • A series of Insurgency and COIN classes

If there is a course you would like to have taught that isn't on the list feel free to request it and we will try to accommodate the request. Also check this thread for course announcements and other announcements regarding TGU.

    Upcoming Courses

In the fall and early winter there will be a number of courses
    • Basic Infantry: Sign up can be found here.
    • Basic Armour (Driver): Late October
    • Fly and Die Meetup: Early November
    • Basic Armour (Gunner): Middle of November
    • Anti-Armour Operations: Late November
    • Advanced Armour: Early December

On top of these expect basic infantry, medic and squad leader courses to be held at regular intervals in the future.

    Instructors

TGU currently have six instructors for PR. They do not all have an equal amount of time available due to different real life situations but they are all willing to answer questions from new players. Below you can find who they are and what they specialise in.
    • Katanama - Head of TGU, Squad Leader, Infantry, Armour and Helicopter
    • Tman - TGU 2IC, Infantry and Squad Leader (moving)
    • Randy Shugart - Medic and Infantry
    • Kwalc - Infantry, Medic and Vehicles
    • fullkontact - Anti-Armour, Infantry and Squad Leader (busy with real life)
    • Axis_Sniper Armour, Infantry, Squad Leader and Insurgency

If you would like one on one instructions or just some guidance feel free to contact me (Katanama) and I will make arrangements with an instructor that can help you out. This thread is also a place where you can either find people to PM your questions or ask them here and we and the rest of the old people will try and answer as best as possible.

    Growing

TGU is always looking for active instructors to help offer courses and more experience to the team. Currently we are lacking in the area of fixed wing flight and would like an instructor that will be capable of teaching this but all are welcome. If you think you have the time to spend an hour or so a week checking and answering forum post and then teach a course once every 2 or 3 months feel free to apply. The only requirements are that you have been a member of TG for 6 months and that you are a supporting member. Your application will be discussed among the instructors for PR and if we think that you bring something useful to the team you will be accepted.

its very, very simple and would only take about 5 min to teach.

dude while you are marking make sure that your avatar is moving. forwards, backwards, sidestep it doesn't matter. if you are standing still the marker will be off 9 times out of 10

Seconded. Also a Squad Leader Communications guide too. When and what to say in Mumble SL and/or to the Commander. I'm not saying the level of Zedic communication, but a lesson in K.I.S.S.

I will look into combining things from the existing squad leader courses since they already have what you are asking for. Give it a week or two and I will post a sign up for the course.

weird, i never knew that. i always stand still. i would say the majority of the time i get it spot on, but sometimes i will do it three times in a row and it will be off to the left or right by 200-300m.

                TGU in July

So in the upcoming month of July there are three planned TGU events. The first will be on the 9th where I will host a tactics discussion session that will focus on insurgency and especially on insurgent tactics more then BLUFOR. The second event will be on the 10th where randy will be hosting a communications course for squad leaders. On the 31st I will again be hosting a basic squad leader course and anyone that have not been able to make it to randy's event are welcome to come and ask their questions here.

As mentioned the tactics discussion will focus on insurgent tactics where I encourage anyone that have any interest in insurgency to show up. If you want to improve your abilities or you are experienced and would like to share your knowledge. I suspect it will last about an hour depending on how many people show up and how active the discussion becomes. The session will either be a free discussion forum if people are able to find subjects to discuss. If this is not the case I will have some subjects to get the discussion started. I will be taking notes thru the whole session and these will be posted as a resume in the tactics discussion sub forum to be made available to the general TG public.

The communications course will have an announcement made by randy in the next couple of days and afterwards the signup page can be found in the TGU-forum.

On the 31st I will as mentioned be hosting a course for people that want to learn to squad lead. You can sign up for this course here. If you have some questions about communications and is not able to be there on the 10th show up around 22.00CET in the TGU channel and I will take the time to answer all the questions you have (about the game;))
The basic squad leader course we will cover the basics of getting your squad set up with kits and getting people to do what you want, what is a good idea and what is not, basics of squad movement (how to get the most out of your AR for example), basics of deploying assets where to deploy what and so on.

As a bit of bonus info I think some of the experienced players might actually learn something in this course even though it is a basic course. Case in point I have experienced on multiple occasions people that are as experienced as me be surprised by things that are taught in TGU courses but they didn't know because they hadn't been there. So show up and if nothing else you can help me remember all the things I am bound to forget and thereby make it a better course.

So if you want the basic SL course sign up, check this thread in the next couple of days for randy's announcement and on the 9th I would suggest you just show up for but I would like to get a feeling of how big the interest is. Also the dates are not 100% set in stone so if you PM me we can probably work something out.

So that was a little update on what TGU will be doing this month so feel free to sign up for courses and what not:)

DATE AND TIME: "Project Reality Squad Leader Radio Usage Course July 10th"

DATE AND TIME: "July 10th 11:00 AM EST"

Players will be required for TeamSpeak roll call in the TGU channel 15 minutes before the module.
Anyone who is not present 10 mins before the scheduled start time will be counted as absent and will be disallowed from participating in the next module run for the game in which the module was missed.

Module Name: Squad Leader Radio Usage Course
                  Prerequisite: None
Instructor: Magnum.P.I., Kwalc, with assistance from other TGU instructors

                  [b]What not to post:
"What time will it be in my time zone?" Work it out.
"Are non-supporting members allowed to participate?" Yes. However, supporting members get priority.
"It's not fair! I keep getting pushed out by Supporting Members!" Become one.
"Can you change the date?" If enough people ask for it I will consider changing it
                  "I'm on the reserve list. How good are my chances of playing if I show up?" Decent. There will inevitably be a few cancellations before the session and there can be one or two no-shows on the day of the session.[/b}

                  Quick Session Information
                  Date: "July 10th"
                  Time: "11:00am EST"
                  Be on Teamspeak By: "10:45EST"
                  Estimated Duration: "1 hour+/-"
                  Server: IP/Password Given in Teamspeak
Module: "Squad Leader Radio Usage Course"
                  Number of Students: "4-24"
                  Credit badge:

                  Ground Rules:

CHECK FIRE! Once on the server, hold your fire until specifically instructed to do so. This is very important so that your instructor can address everyone without background noise of weapons fire or explosions.
Listen to your instructor and follow their directions. It is important that everyone listen to the instructor and be ready to follow instructions so that the material in the module can be covered in a timely manner. The more the instructor has to be off-topic the longer the module will take to complete.
Minimize Com Chatter. Questions are greatly encouraged as part of the learning process, but many people may have questions at once. If you have a question or comment, simply type a request such as "question" or "comment" in the in-game chat and your instructor will call on you and let you have the com when they are able.

                  How Spots Are Assigned:
The first priority will be given to Supporting Members above non-Supporting Members. After that, People who have attended a TGU Basic Infantry course over those who have not. People who haven't attend a Basic Infantry course are allowed to sign up but will not be awarded a badge until they passed or are writen off by a instructor.

A reserve list will be made up when all the playing spots are filled. Supporting members, once again, have priority. When a player with a spot cancels, they will be replaced by the first person on the reserve list.

                  How to Sign Up
                  IMPORTANT!
Players who no-show without notice for a session will be precluded from participating in the following session for the game where they were absent. Don't let your team mates down! Only sign up if you can make it. Because class spaces are limited, please don't take a spot unless you're confident you can play.

To sign up, please simply reply with the following two items of information:
                  1) In house squad (unaffiliated if none)
                  2) Your in-game name.

Please reply to this message with the above information if you wish to sign up.
Players will be signed up on a first-come first-served basis.
Supporting Members get precedence in the order they sign up, then Non-Supporting Members afterwards. Your SM status at the time of signup determines which list you will be on. Once you post, you cannot become a SM later to work your way up the list.
You can pull out, but if you reconfirm, you will find yourself at the bottom of the roster.
You may not hand over your spot to another specific player. Your spot will be given to the next available player.

Tomorrow there will be a tactics discussion for those that have forgotten. And since FK have been so nice to give me a time that we need to finish (you should never miss a good drinking game) we will start at 8pm GMT this will give us time to have a discussion and then get ready for the game:)

On friday I will be hosting an attack helicopter course at 6pm EST, signups can be found here http://www.tacticalgamer.com/tactica...er-course.html. The way this will work is that I will base the course around what the people already know and then building on that. When you sign up be sure to fill in how much experience you have with the helicopters. It will mostly be focused around the apache type helicopters but attack hueys and their like will also be covered quickly.

Right now I am not sure if the private server is available but if it is the practical side of the course will be hosted there.

The first priority will be given to those who have signed up and who are present in Roll Call. After that, People who have attended a TGU PR Course.

A reserve list will be made up when all the playing spots are filled.

You can pull out, but if you reconfirm, you will find yourself at the bottom of the roster.
You may not hand over your spot to another specific player. Your spot will be given to the next available player.
