  • Deutsches Panzer Museum

    Gentlemen,

On my continuing quest to visit as much military history as possible in Europe before I leave in November, I went to the German Army's "Deutsches Panzer Museum" in Munster Germany. This awesome museum is operated by the Germany Army, and has roughly 100 tanks from WWI through today on display.

    http://www.panzermuseum-munster.de/

It is 5 Euro to get in, and they have an audio tour for free in English too.

    Simply put, an awesome place.

I wanted to share some of my photos here of the best ones, but if you want to see them all, I posted them on photobucket here:

Here are some of the highlights:

WWI Tank - The German Army actually disbanded these before the war was over due to reliability issues and they thought their AT weapons were better anyway.

Pz38 Chech Tank - The German assault on Poland was made up mostly of "borrowed" Chech Tanks like this one.

I think the one in Donington England is even larger, however a slight fetish for german armor is apparent. I hope you got a few shots off while you were in Hamburg :p

                Re: Deutsches Panzer Museum

Outstanding and awesome. German and Russian early hardware were awesome. The German's pioneered a lot of ideas it seems. Very awesome and deadly looking tanks.

One thing that always gets me... apparently 3 Tigers were destroyed by a Sherman in North Africa or Europe during the war. Must have had a 17 pounder.

Ahh what would I do without CoH knowledge.

Riddle me this: Why have german uniforms always been so darn SHARP? Even the german paratroopers today have outstanding uniforms compared to many countries.

Don't get me wrong, US uniforms are fantastic... they just lack that special something.

I would agree, having been in the Army 20 years I always disliked our Class A uniform. They recently moved to the dress blue as the class A uniform - at least that is better.

Typically looking sharp isnt a concern when it comes to modern uniforms, so other armies arent even trying to. The Nazis hired famed design Studio Hugo Boss to make their Uniforms. They should have worried more about function than form and they wouldnt have started freezing when temperatures dropped to chilly, then again they maybe should not have.

The current German Army looks pretty generic to me.
