  • Running people over..good..bad..indifferent

I am, i admit, a fan of taking a buggy a mowing people over while getting from point A to point B... but there are people (not on TG servers i dont recall) who complain that it is cheating.. I think it is a perfectly good tactic if someone is in the middle of the road..

    opinions?

    perpetual conundrum,

I don't care one way or the other really, only thing I don't like is the whole suicide buggy tactic.

Getting run over is annoying, but I wouldn't consider it cheating. If I'm stupid enough to be out in the open with an enemy jeep heading at me, then I deserve to die a stupid death.

A sad fact of this game is that it is easier to run over someone in the buggy than it is to shoot them with the guns in the buggy.

        3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

...if they're in the open. I don't think that's sad.

And running over the enemy is a very efficient way to dispatch him, IMHO. :) Totally cool. Not cheap. Not cheating.

Its not cheating, but very annoying, even if a guy hides behind an object, the car will only have to barely touch him (doesn't have to be anywhere close to fullspeed, For a test, I once got a boat from a carrier, landed in on the ground and kept running against the side and the boat killed me while on land and not moving).
One thing I don't always like is that colliding sometimes acts real weird.
You can run in a tree or wall at full speed and you'll barely have any damage, but if hit a tank or APC at half speed you're dead

Not cheating at all. Very realistic actually.

Play assault and shoot the buggy with the GL. Or-better idea, shoot the driver in the face. You can kill them with 1 3 round burst from 50 meters away easy, if you don't kill him, sidestep when he's 10 meters away and then get him from behind.

Definately not cheating, you deserve it if you're in the middle of the road. That said I don't die to this tactic very often anymore. If you're an Eng. take out a mine and drop it front of you, you should have enough time to switch back to your shotty and pummel him as he swerves around you. If he doesn't see you drop the mine, then jump aside at the last second so you don't get caught in the fireworks.

If you're AT, then whip out that missle and just fire it. Don't bother zooming as it wastes time and if you miss at this range you really should consider another class.

Levi is on the the right track with Assault. It's my preferred class usually and you'd be suprised how easy it is to pick that driver out of his seat. If you miss, jump aside at the last second and swith to GL. It takes two GL hits from the front, but only one from the back, so pop him as he's speeding away.

The only time I have problems is if the driver is quick enough to hit F2 and jump in the gunners spot before he's right on top of me. Then I dolphin dive and pray he's not a good shot...

its annoying but comical, I dont considering it cheating at all, the only thing i have trouble with is weither to jump out of the way or not, ive been run over one too many times because i was afraid of being accused of bunnyhoping for jumping away from the jeep/buggy/vodnik/whateva

^ i never thought of jumping out of the way would count as bunny hopping. but i think running people over is perfectly fine.

I'm still trying to play Halo in that when I see it coming at me I try to jump over it. You see thats how you avoided a Ghost (purple thing) trying to run you over in that.

As for the topic? It's annoying when it happens to me (for above reason) and quite funny when I do it to others. I laugh especially hard when I pin and crush them between a wall. It seems fine to me.

while i condone anti enemy hit and runs, the amount of contact it takes to kill you or a teammate after you exit a vehicle is retarded. im not sure what ea was thinking, but getting hit by a boat you just exited as it slows to a crawl is by far the stupidest and most annoying thing ever. same goes to engineers repairing the side of my tank or vice-versa... just stupid.

As someone who was the 1st mate on a charter fishing boat for 7 years, and got run over twice, I have to say that it really does jack you up. Even if you're not going fast, or are just drifting, that's alot of mass and for some reason it always seems to whack you in a sensitive place. Granted these are ribs, but they're still somewhat hard, not just rubber rafts. And-buggies would at the very least injure you pretty good if you jumped out and it hit someone. I'm not saying this game is realistic, but some of it at least makes a little sense. The repairing the side of the tank thing... you could limit the number of AT guys, but make the AT more powerful, or make 2 people have to set it up together, and use a real TOW (the SRAW isn't really a dedicated AT missle in the real world), and then make the respawn on a tank like 5 minutes to simulate having to tow it back to base and retrofit it. If not build another one. Tanks aren't used in real life like they are here, because a tank is really vulnerable without proper tactics. It's about game balance. In real life, you need more players to even qualify for a tank escort, more tactics to keep your armor from getting killed by some bastard with an RPG shooting him the the treads (makes the treads come off and disables the tank), or in the turret's commander hatch blowing the hatch and killing the people inside. If you make the game too realistic, it quickly becomes less fun. Or did respawns happen in life?

                              Yeah, lol....

Not cheating, and quite fun. I took out an entire squad (that spawned by the beach arty on Oman) in the buggy the other night. Awesome..
