  • The APC as Mobile Spawn

This is just a quick hitter:

I have found the APC serves as an excellent mobile spawn point. The SL, as engineer of course, stays on the perimiter of the action and serves as a mobile spawn. When he has 3 or 4 SL's spawn in the vehicle, he can quickly drive up, pop smoke, and drop them off in a hurry. He then retreats and repairs. He can also provide fire support.

I did this on Songhua with great effect. There was a bonus on that map: being in the water most of the time made me immune to AT mines and C-4. The fog also made evasion easy. It allowed me to support a lenghty assault that was eventually successful.

No, it wont work all the time. And, yes, airpower is a problem for the APC.

I just miss the old Landing Zone ALbany days when me and my buddy could roll around in the BTR-1 and repair from the INSIDE and ON THE MOVE. we killed a lot of dudes that way.

True, the water prevents Engineers and Spec Ops from going prone to lay mines/C4, but they can still crouch, and you'd be a lovely target to my AT missile.

You pointed out one thing that many people seem to forget with the tanks and APC...

they drop smoke... 2 canisters of it I believe... and 2 canisters with 3 guys at the flag can easily turn the flag undercover... add in another smoke from an assult member and it makes stopping the assult a blind affair... better hope they have some C4 set up

I also dont mind having a 2 man setup on the apc... the SL can be a medic and have a right hand man on the repair... the medics area effect heal can help the engineer while repairing underfire while the APC returns fire...

Thierry, when swimming, it is impossible to lay C-4 or mines.

At missiles. Well, if I sit still and let you hit me with 3 of them, then, yes, I'd be in trouble. But, in Songhua, as I said in my original post, you can disappear quickly into the fog and repair. Plus, after you hit me once, I'd shoot you in face.

Oh swimming, thought you meant shallow water

Oh no. . .shallow water hides the mine/C-4. Fear the shallows.

This tactic actually didn't occur to me until I was floating around out there. Usually, I hate driving the APC through water b/c of the slowness and difficutly in maneuvering. But, as I sat out there, I realized how very safe I actually was. I would watch enemy APCs drive by in the shallows, they wouldn't even see me b/c of the fog and so little of my APC was sticking up.

This prob. works best at Songhua. Might work other places, too.

Not really. You can't hit the wheels for maximum damage. you can only hit me in the heavy armor, since the rest is under water.

and don't forget, once you fire that rocket, I'm going to shoot you in the face.

Not on Songhua, I'll be behind a good bunch of trees and I'll manuever around you to hit where it does most damage ;)

Nope, cus I'll have gone prone by the time the missile hit your rear when you were facing the opposite direction!
