  • BF2 hangs after some time - no error/no crash to desktop

    hi there!

i have problems during single player missions (actually haven't tried online).
after some time 5-10min, suddenly the game freezes, then i get a black screen, after that some weired screen (just dots all over the place and sound stutter).
i have to do a hard reset, everything else doesn't work. no crash to desktop and no multiplayer connection issues - just single player!!

looks like a graphic issue - cannot check weather or not a memory problem, cause i have to restart windows.
i haven't had any in game freezes for only some seconds, and even when played with high graphic settings i get good fps.

i tried various in game graphic settings.
tried deleting the cache folders (only one is left)
    defragemented the HD.

    my system specs:
    AMD64 3200+
    1 GB RAM (SS)
    X800XL
    winXP prof. SP2
paging file size 1.8 GB (fixed)
i installed the new omega drivers (cat 5.6)
i installed the new NF4 chipset drivers 6.66 (no NV IDE, since i had problems with them in earlier versions)
    i have the 1.02 patch of BF2
disabled all anti virus SW, just the firewall is running.

looks like a decent system in my book, but still hangs after hangs...

i'm lacking any ideas what to try next.

    any ideas?

haven't tried online since i have a router and i'm tired of making it useless by opening so many ports.

    guess i solved it:

my vga fan is not working. i tried cooling the card with a cold air flow and i my gaming time increased without crash.

just good my gecube has a heat pipe so i can run windows.
checked the gpu temp with the atiTool. in windows 70C in game >100C - lucky me i didn't frie it.

well the sympthoms looked like a temp. issue, but i couldn't be sure until i made the test with a cold hairdryer.

will change the card and hopefully join you out there in battle :-)

    cheers
