  • Got 9800 Pro Atlantis (128mb) and 1gig RAM

As the topic title says, it I got the 9800 Pro Atlantis (128mb) and 1GB RAM (Kingston PC3200 blablabla, my proccessor is P4 2,8 ghz with HT, 800mhz and 1MB Cache. )
Anyways, me comp runs BF2 pretty smoothly on high at 1024X768.
The only thing is that maps load long and the first few minutes are very laggy.
So I'm gettin another GB of RAM, this should fix the lag-at-start problem right?
Would I also be able to play BF2 on higher settings then?

I highly doubt that you will be able to run at higher settings with that card. I have a similar setup with a geforege 6600 gt (comparable to 9800) and the same thing happens. Load times will be a lil quicker with more ram. A way to fix the first minute of lag is to do this. When you load the game and have picked a kit and respawned. Look in all directions of the map (north, south, east west, 90 degrees, 60 degrees etc) It should be laggy when you do this, but it should reduce the lag later as you are loading some of the textures from different parts of the map

Be sure to defrag whatever partition you have BF2 installed on. This is _very important_ to do. If possible, install the game on a separate drive from your OS drive.

Hmmm, I just found a nice video card with a temporary discount, the Asus V9999GE Geforce 6800 256Mb, DVI, TVo, AGP. I can get it for a good price, is it much better then the 9800 pro?

You should be able to play with almost high settings with that video card with that HT cpu and ram. Are you going to have one gig of ram with that card or planning on getting more

2 GB RAM? I upgraded mine and I almost always spawn first now. There are some improvements indeed.

I am playing on everything Med, And Shadow and Dynamic Lightning Low, and no Anti Alias. Resolution 1152 - 864. Video Card GeForce 6600.

My resolution is at 1024 at the moment
My question: Should I go for RAM or for the card? I am nudging towards the card, since its a (temporary) discount.

If you can get a 6800 GT or 800 XT, then go for the video card. Anything less wouldn't be worth it with a 9800.

i say keep your card and just get ram...
2 reasons: its cheaper and if you arent having that many frames/sec problems after the first few mins and are happy with the graphics, then stick with the card. The price on the 6800 will be dropping more soon

Yeh well its a temporary discount.
With my 9800 I am gettin 30fps on average, and lags like hell in the first few minutes

                              6800 GE/TD, with DDR3 and 256mb, for 200 euro's.
                              I got AGP 8X, just like the 6800 I'm after :p
