  • Punkbuster: Corrupted file memory [98120161]

I get kicked 20 seconds into a game of PR for this error. A google search shows this as an error caused by FRAPs, which I do not have but that was back in 2005. This just started two days ago, I have updated PB to no avail.

Don't remember a Windows update at that time, no other program issues.

    XP64
    4G RAM
    nVidia GTS250 1G Vid RAM

    Not sure what else.

hmmm. Might be worth excluding BF2.exe from the AV check to rule this out. You could also run memtest86 or MS windiag, just in case...

Re: Punkbuster: Corrupted file memory [98120161]

The response I got back from Evenbalance:

Note #2: These kicks are when PunkBuster detects a modification of your game exe running in memory or you are using a modified client. Possible explanations are as follows:

                1. A virus modified the game executable
                2. A crack of some sort was applied to the game executable
                3. You are using a non-standard version of the game (D2D/Steam/Gamestop etc.)

Please make sure you run the latest and original version of the game. Using no-cd hacks could be the cause of these kicks. Make sure you have installed the latest patches of your game.

Also, I recommend that you run a virus/malware scan of your computer to see if anything is trying to attach itself to the running program. Also run a memory stress test to see if there is a fault there that could be causing issues (Note: this is rare!). You can find such a program on the following website:

                http://www.memtest86.com/

In extreme cases, some users have reported that BIOS updates have stopped this kick. If the memtest does not show up an error and the other solutions did not help, try a reinstall of the game please.

                ****

Since I'm not using a no-CD crack (not even a min disk since the 1.5 patch) and I have the retail box I'm going to guess it is either RAM or a virus on the executable, I sent a clarification to see if it checks the PR.exe as well as the BF2 one.

Re: Punkbuster: Corrupted file memory [98120161]

I had no issues on the TG POE2 server last night, or while beta testing on Monday. I hope to see if I am still getting the kicks from the TG PR server int he near future.

it seems to be very random it doesn't just happen on TG but yeah i found that other programs running can cause the problem i think mine was ethier xfire or steam

same thing started for me today.

at first i thought it was because i updated RivaTuner but all the settings are the same. :(
