  • [ANNOUNCEMENT] Rainbow 6: Patriots revealed by next month's Game Informer cover

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/ra...nformer-cover/Rainbow 6: Patriots revealed by next month's Game Informer cover

"Both the reports of an early concept video leaked this past June and the web domain acquisitions which pointed at Ubisoft's next installment in the Rainbow Six franchise have proven authentic: Game Informer just announced its December issue will focus on Rainbow 6: Patriots. The title, which is tentatively scheduled to launch on 360, PS3 and PC in 2013, prominently features the compelling (and presumably controversial) moral dilemmas seen in the video from earlier this year.

Creative director David Sears told Game Informer that in addition to that new "narrative direction," the game will feature "all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love." You can watch an expanded version of that video from June on Game Informer -- just be forewarned, it's kind of upsetting. Terrorists are mean, you guys.

After the Ravenshield series the game play changed too much for me. I miss the tactical environment that game required. If you could put today's graphics in the RvS series, that would be an awesome game.

After Raven Shield, I was pushing the limits with Rainbow Six: Vegas. Vegas was "good", and don't get me wrong, it felt nothing like Raven Shield, it had no simulation (come on, regenerating health?!), and your teammates acted like morons (but so did the AI in Raven Shield). Overall, Vegas 1 felt like a season of "24" with you half-playing Jack Bauer and half-playing Rambo. Kinda nice mix up.

Vegas 2? HELL NO. This game was crap. At least in Vegas 1, one of the antagonists recognized and established her understanding of the original Rainbow Six crew: Ding Chavez, John Clark, Alistar Stanley, Eddie Price, John Covington, etc etc... BUT IN VEGAS 2, It's just a mix up of random idiots running around in illogically designed levels (how does a library turn into a stadium, which turns into a parking lot, which turns into a shopping mall, which turns into a casino... wtf, I didn't recognize THAT, and I used to go to Las Vegas all the time!) Also, why were the graphics worse than Vegas 1? Texture resolutions were all under 1024x1024... Vegas 1 had not only higher res textures, but it had more shaders running in any given particular scene, AND THERE WAS dynamic lighting and shadows. Also, what happened to my self-shadow in Vegas 2? Am I invisible all of a sudden?

It's nice to see the target footage for Rainbow Six: Patriots, but overall it still lacks the literary nod to the original characters of the game, let alone anything resembling themes or original concepts that spawned the Rainbow Six game series. From the target footage video, Patriots feels like a Hollywood thriller mixed in with some simulator elements from Heavy Rain.

Got Vegas 2 for the co-op element... and completed it first time through, normal mode, in six hours. As someone who hardly played FPS games at all.

I have a feeling that I am going to be disappointed by this game as it will be a sequel to the Vegas related R6 and not Raven Shield or prior versions of R6. The original R6 to Raven Shield were my intros to FPS games, and I miss true tactical shooter. Vegas was not a tactical shooter.

They lost me on this series with the change from Raven shield to lockdown, which was disappointing as like several people in this thread I put many hours into the earlier incarnations including Rouge Spear and Ravenshield.

Same exact boat. I was first thrilled for Vegas... and then played the demo and never went back.

I'm really hoping the modding community will tackle the need for a more down to earth R6 like experience. Hell just mod CS:source, a decent amount of models and certainly a capable mapping engine...
