    Re: BF3 Confirmed Data

I thought we could start a place where we can gather all the confirmed data into one spot so its easy for others to see. I've tried to list everything that we know so far (which isn't much) but I hope to expand on it as more news is released. If I've missed something let me know.

What's the threshold for something being "confirmed" in this context? :D

Alright...well lets say from "creditable sources" ie something you can link to that proves the information. Basically no speculation or rumors here, just things that have been mentioned by Dice, EA or in reputable articles.

They confirmed it in the beta, original game, and who knows how many patches.

Well, like I said in another post...

Most of these errors have been in every single battlefield release. Some of these get fixed within the first couple patches. Some of these never get fixed at all.

Works for me! Links-to-sources it is! Whether or not they deliver on what they say now is another topic all together... But keeping a running list of 'confirmed' features is a great idea .. let's get it back on track :)

                          Re: BF3 Confirmed Data

the leaked Game Informer magazine article on BF3: (looking for links but scanned images are posted all over):

Interviewer: “When I think about Battlefield 2, I always come back to the Commander position … Are those returning in the proper sequel?”

DICE: “We could implement it, but the question is ‘How do you get the threshold lower?’ That’s not by making it more complicated. Our challenge is to make sure that anyone that just jumps into the game will get it. One of the biggest problems with Commander was that only two people could use it. Some people liked it but most people didn’t care. They just cared that someone gave them an order or that their squad could play together having fun on their own more or less. Then the more hardcore people went into the Commander mode and learned how to use that. You could argue it was a great feature, but looking at the numbers you could also say that no one uses it. We tried in Bad Company 2 to give that to the players, so you could issue orders to your squad, and you could use gadgets like UAV that only the commander could use earlier – giving the poser back to the players so everyone could use it. That made a big difference. More people could enjoy the game. We lowered the threshold for everyone because we gave it to everyone. We now know where the boundaries are for keeping the strategic depth and complexity while lowering the threshold to get in.”

                            Re: BF3 Confirmed Data

DICE didn't really give a clear answer in that article on the commander stance. The only thing I understood was that the commander function will not return in the same capacity as it was in BF2/BF 2142.

                              Re: BF3 Confirmed Data

Its not clear enough, I didn't see anything in there where he says there is definitely not going to be a commander, it definitely leans more towards no commander than a commander granted, but it could also be implying a commander with different roles than previous games (like FL1P said).

On the plus side its a good example of what the difference between speculation and confirmation is. Everything listed has been confirmed by a Dice employee as going (or not going) into BF3
