Battleblog #9: Online vehicle warfare refined

One interesting conclusion that will be a big relief to engy's:
Disabling means you no longer have to chase a vehicle that’s low on health to repair it.

I actually like the changes a lot. (Assuming the armor-regen will be properly balanced.)

I think we could take this a step further and say "disabling means you no longer get ran over by a vehicle that's low on health while you try to repair it."

No, what happens is you're repairing a disabled vehicle when all of a sudden it pops above the damage threshold and the driver reverses over you.

First I love the concept of disabled vehicles. However I have a huge concern that most players will use that time to just abandon the vehicle without a fear of death. So working to bring down a tank and the driver gets away Scott free easier than they do now. Also bet this increases vehicle stolen incidents where people jump out of the tank and the other team takes it. We all know how those maps play out when a critical piece of equipment like that gets stolen... And for those in the alpha we saw it a lot of the lav.

Time to die with honor. I would hope that people who are in disabled vehicles learn to just die with the vehicle.
Denying enemy access to such a valuable asset is worth more than one ticket. Just like the old 2142 days.

Like DOC said in post above. In 2142, you man a vehicle....you DIE with the vehicle! I've OFTEN ordered a person in a squad to stay in the vehicle until it is destroyed just to avoid the ninja/bailers. He jumps out, and an enemy squad member jumps in and salvages it, that squadie is gone! Boot! He violated the squad leaders orders, and hence, he can go play somewhere else! I begged and pleaded to make it a Ban-hammer opportunity when I was admining. Alas, to no avail.

The TG way we will fight it out but in a public environment people bail. They are not going to sit in some sitting duck that is almost dead to man up and take that last shot trying to salvage that vehicle. The only way I could see this working is once you get disabled, it takes a while to exit the vehicle or something like that. I would love to see some post live statistics later that show how many people actually die in the vehicles. We will see.

I love the concept and think its an awesome idea but I have a really hard time seeing how to implement it without abuse.

It happened in 2142 a lot. There no matter how damaged you could jump in and run off to a safe place to repair.

I think it would make it harder to steal a vehicle since now most players will only abandon it once it is immobilized. You can't just jump in and drive off can you? Assuming that you can't, the enemy is now stuck in a nearly destroyed non-mobile vehicle, the friendlies should have time to destroy the vehicle easily.

I hope the health has to go very low for the vehicle to get disabled, otherwise it'll be pretty awful if you can't even back up and escape at low vehicle health, instead of sitting still as an easy target.

If the driver exits an immobilized vehicle they should be on fire!
