  • BF2 style death-counts

Not a big deal obviously, but it always bugged me in BC2 how I'd get ticked for a death even when I'm revived. :)

adiacente: @Demize99 Does being killed and revived count as a death?

Demize99: @adiacente As of yesterday, no. It'll be in the final game but not the beta.

adiacente: So eventually reviving won't affect the death count, correct?

    Demize99: @adiacente Correct.

Hooray! It was a silly system in BC2.

I agree...it was a small pet peeve for me, but I am happy to see it go.

If it won't count as death it should not count as a kill as well in my opinion.

Strangely, after a while, I liked BC2's system. My death count was an indicator of my poor positioning (or more accurately, how reckless I currently am). A higher death count was an indicator that I needed to take the aggression down a notch. I appreciated being punished for my actions. Although, a side effect of this method are also deaths outside of your control, like those get-revived/spawn-and-die-1-or-2-seconds later, also.

One method was a representation of the number of deaths the other the number of tickets you lost. Both bits of info can be usseful.

Ostry's suggestion would make tickets taken shown rather than kills.

Imagine the effect displaying ticketstaken/deaths would have on willingness to *(medic)train.

Hmm, but in BF3 you can decline a revive, so it seems then that BC2s system would be pretty fair.

The whole problem with BC2 was that revives left you defenseless for a second as you got your bearings while the enemy was already shooting, so your death count was often not very representative of your actions.

                Not a big deal!?

To me this is a big deal, more than I want it to be :)

I have always been shedding a rage tear everytime I find myself being the wrong place and getting a long time to think about because of my friendly medic standing behind a rock reviving me 5, 6 ,7 EIGHT times.
                That broke me some times.

But reviving like that CAN be the right thing to do for the team; it saves a ticket. It may make my stats look bad, but... "stats are for [the loosing team]" ;)

Not just that... but revived people make excellent ballistic shields...

Squad mate gets shot, bad guy keeps shooting, revive squad mate, squad mate gets full of holes again, shoot bad guy, revive squad mate, mission accomplished.

When the bad guy happens to be a medic with a 200 round magazine I almost always stop reviving after the sixth or seventh time though.

I actually also became used to the BC2 system as I felt much more careful then I did in other titles, but I will overall be glad to see it go as many a time I would be revived, killed, revived again, etc and rack up 5 deaths within 3 seconds.
