I wonít be able to include the community into more cool stuff in the future. These maps on the servers were meant for internal testing so when footage and passwords start being spread around, itís difficult for me to justify the communityís cause about joining us in our internal testing.Ē

    Source:http://www.gamebandits.com/news/batt...-leaked-17347/

I say this story is far fetched and stitched together to make it seem like the passwords were "leaked"

I can see how this looks bad in the community from his POV but when it was he himself who posted the passwords in the PUBLIC EA UK forums. Well I don't really know.

I would like some thoughts on this. Keep it nice and straight with the topic. Not looking for a flame thread here.

I just think it is weird how things turned out.

I'm pretty sure at this point that no one at DICE really knows for sure if it was supposed to be public or private, as it keeps fluctuating so much.

Whatever the case may be, I think the larger issue at hand is the BF community's hostility and entitlement issues over a FREE OPEN beta.

The bigger issue is that there's no demo for BF3 - out or announced. I think quite a few people are treating the beta as "should I buy this game?" and really, how much of a decision can you make about BF3 while playing BC3?

That's not to say that it's a great idea to make a decision while playing an earlier version of the game, but it's still better than nothing. There's a lot of goodwill among BF fans, but the "Beta is Rush only" decision from DICE is kind of a weaksauce move for a franchise built on Conquest.

There are still ~10 days left in the Beta. It is possible DICE has a few surprises for us. I may be overly optimistic though.

I agree that a demo would be a wise choice, and may ease some of the complaints going around.

Many games, especially DICE's main competition, do not do open betas, pre-release demos, or anything. Many games go on the assumption that players want a new game regardless of whether or not it's deserving of a new title or deserving of the player's money. I feel DICE at least values our input, and hence has had an Alpha and a Beta. There were quite a few changes between the Alpha and Beta, and many came from stirs within the community.

So I guess some community involvement drives developers, but not all community involvement is good.

          -------------------------

We're getting off topic a bit, but I'd like to discuss something I feel is related:

I realize many were frustrated with the "early access" not working as intended/promised. However, does anyone else see the problem with people purchasing a game to simply play another game they may not even like. For example, people who bought MOH - obviously large supporters of DICE - I get that. However, many seemed to only buy it for the BF3 Alpha and Beta... So many bought a game they did not really want all too much, just for access to a game (BF3) that may turn out to be the opposite of what they wanted.

And then, when the Beta comes around, some of these players get bent out of shape with the whole "BF3 is not how I wanted it to be!"

I hate to say it, but DICE is creating the game they want, not what joeinternet9000 wants. They cannot cater to everyone, and while that's unfortunate (They'd make a killing if they could), people need to be able to accept it and move on if need be.

Caspian was around for a short while. I played it a few times, and had some great experiences on it. I also had some bad, including server crashes, EOR crashes, server stability issues, server performance issues, etc. It's quite obvious dice was being serious when they said they needed to do internal testing on Caspian! Different hardware profiles, different server configs, etc etc - people acted very surprised to find only a dozen or some NA servers for Caspian. And while I certainly wish there were at least 1000 Caspian servers, I realize DICE was not kidding - they needed to test Caspian and how it would perform client and server side.

But people DEMAND that Caspian be open for everyone. What if it's not stable enough? What if it needs more work (there are plenty of issues to be addressed as is!)? What if DICE and server providers need more internal testing?

For those of you who got to play Caspian, enjoy the memory. For those that didn't, accept it and move on. You can hope it returns in the Beta, but don't get hung up on it. If you're bored of Metro, nobody is forcing you to play it. You do not need to be fully ranked and unlock EVERYTHING to fully experience the beta. Instead, I suggest you all find some buddies and just play.

The Beta should be about feedback and fun, not about which map you're allowed to play on. If you're not having fun, don't try and force it. And don't take it out on anyone else, like DICE. They already have a LOT to do.

I think this is all marketing
the beta has 2 maps included, the second caspian map meant everyone downloading and extra gig or 2. Why would this happen if it wasn't part of the marketing.
Then DICE have a limited number of passworded servers, then release the password and then complain its released. Then they post up a blog thanking people for their contribution to the testing of caspian.
I see this as all a creative and strange marketing ploy, that went a bit wrong

Imagine a world where the keys were sent out two hours early than stated and you could play a demo/beta that actually worked albeit limited (you knew this cause thatīs what DICE told us) and you could make an informed decision on whether to but the full game.
I think a lot of goodwill was fumbled by the marketing department at EA/DICE in the last week.

They themselves posted the password on the forums for caspian border. so if anyone leaked anything it was them.
I think it went something like this...

"hey lets post the PW for caspian border on the forums for everyone to see"
                  "sure lets do this!"
"damnit why does everyone know the password? people rly need to stop leaking and spreading around the password."

My worry is that Caspian was clearly buggy as hell. What about the other 9 or so maps that we have not seen. I really hope they have them sorted already........

If this was really a Beta there would be instructions on how to report Bugs. This would be included in the mandatory read before playing the game if this was really a BETA. Maybe even a nice webform somewhere that has nice points to put bug information in it. There might have also been a real BETA tool in the game to report glitches and errors in the game. One that when you pressed the special Keys it automatically reports the position x,y,z on the map and shows a screenshot of what is going on, maybe a comment section pops up and then sends it to their database. That's what real Closed Betas do. Hence this is not a Beta. It's a Demo. The only reason it's called a Beta is because a Beta doesn't have to be perfect and a Demo does. So it's their way to "blame away" an incomplete product. Plausible deniability period.

Plus they've done this before with BF2, BF2142 and BC2. So why is this a surprise to anyone? Their release date should be November 2011 but no they had to beat COD:MW3 out of the gate so here we are doing the same thing we do everytime a BF game is released. Rinse and Repeat.

I agree, this has felt more like a glitchy demo than an actual beta, EA should know better since they are testing SWTOR right now as well and that at least has surveys and bug report options.

Re: Matros said, ďIf we canít keep this in an organized fashion...

Despite the glitches and bugs (which I didn't find much annoying anyway) Caspian border was A LOT more fun and came close to or achieved that epic Battle Field feeling that Operation Metro does not convey. Do you remember the news where people at DICE said that PC players were suspicious and not happy for free DLC? This is pretty much same same to get more attention.

I have a vague memory of a demo or beta for 2142 and from what I remember I thought it was a lot of fun, not so with operation metro.

I think we have had the argument about entitlement feelings and FREE beta before, and I honestly don't think people will change their mind on this subject no matter how hard or often we try and argue our points. This is our forum and I think we should be allowed to post both positive and negative comments about games, even when those comments may be different from those of the forum moderators.

Re: Matros said, ďIf we canít keep this in an organized fashion...

Whilst I sympathise with the 'they are making the game they want' perspective I also feel its a touch naive. They are making the game they think will sell and hyping angles that the game in it's current iteration will struggle to deliver. Not having inbuilt voip is ludicrous in this day and age and creating a half baked, FaceBattle page (which looks like a bolt on) to generate traffic and handle 'social teamwork' is falling short in my opinion.

It is fine that a company whips up the crowd to generate cash money for themselves, let's make no bones about it, that is all it is. It is also understandable that people who feel they have been led to believe certain things will be delivered are a little irritated when those 'promises' look like being empty words. Entitlement works both ways, EA and DICE have played their part in this situation, let's not be an apologist for 'amateurish market manipulation'. Now being abusive on EA's forums is inexcusable. However calling a multi billion dollar company out for apparently talking guff isn't the world's biggest crime. It's all feedback. If people don't say something, admittedly being constructive helps, then we will never arrest the slide into mediocrity and console pap that is pumped out every year.

More on topic, I was extremely disappointed not to get onto Caspian but have reconciled that. It does not change the fact that this was very badly handled, they played with it and they got burnt. Public opinion is a double edged sword, it's best to know what you are doing when attempting to manipulate such a volatile thing. If it goes well you generate a lot of MONEY, if it goes badly you have to wear it, big boys games, big boys rules. Corporations whining is no less offensive than customers. They need to suck it up too, them's the breaks.

That being said, still cautiously optimistic. Much more to come, more maps, more features etc. They have time (if the beta version is a couple of iterations previous). Let's hope they are getting constructive feedback as well, they are listening and are committed to doing something about it.

Imagine a world where the game comes out but no one can play it online because there was no stress test of the servers and server management *beforehand.*

Imagine a world that you experienced this past week *after* paying $60.
