  • So much complaining

The amount of kittens that died before and during the release of this brand new game and brand new maps is, to me, staggering. Some will say that they are making commentary on the game, some will say they are just offering their opinion, and of course who am I to judge anyone. But I don't know that people realize they are sucking the fun out of the forums for those of us that are enjoying the new game for all its warts. Now it is bleeding into the poorly positioned chat screen during the game - comlaints about teams, about maps, about whatever. Just the premise for a thread on removing a map the first frickin week of the new game we have all been waiting for says it all.

Is TG a fun place to play games the way we want to with our friends? Definitely. I had some fantastic rounds the last couple of nights with great squads, including a Metro round where we got pushed back to C. Is the whining and complaining about our shiny new toy we all wanted driving me nuts? Definitely.

Can I choose to ignore the forums. Sure. That wouldn't really keep me involved in the community. Can I choose to ignore the complaining in chat? Sure. Can I just turn off TS so I can't hear the complaining? Sure, but then I wouldn't have any comms and comms make or break it for me, without it I might as well be playing on server XYZ.

Could I have just kept all this to myself. Sure. But I don't believe that would help anyone but me. Is this preachy, probably. Is it weird I keep answering my own questions? .......

For me, the investment I have made in this community is the very reason the complaining (my word, not yours) affects me. For others, it may be their investment and/or expectations for the game is driving the complaining.

FWIW, I retired from adminning in an attempt to keep the game fun for me, the circus act during the beta and the posts and reactions to posts from all types of members and admins was too much. I felt totally selfish for doing so, but that is what I needed to do.

I don't know what I intended with this post other than to share my thoughts, but if your comments aren't constructive, maybe consider the affect they will have on other people that are enjoying the game.

    Re: So much complaining

I know how you feel project, I usually share your sentiment on complainers that nit pick a game to death or complain incessantley about stuff THEY want changed not whats good for the greater good. This time for me its different though. BF2 was my all time favorite game, I was expecting on the hype that dice created that bf3 would be its spirtual successor. So after 4 years of waiting it comes out and I have to say that I myself have been disappointed with alot thats been done to the series and I usually dont post or complain and just play game, I feel that this time its warrented.

We pc gamers are loosing alot of features we've come to expect to corporate interests in consoles, we are between a rock and a hard place since we make up so little revenue for those companies. We need to be heard but at the same time if we make it hard for the devs to make us happy they may stop making games for us all together. I know the complaining gets you down but if you like the game just play it, Im sure dice will not forget us and will patch the game up to our standards if not its still a fun game and Ill be playing for a long time coming.

Maybe my post was complaining in itself.

        Re: So much complaining

You are as entitled as anyone else to complain about the complaining, but if you want to take it out on anyone, take it out on the developers.

I do not post here much because I did not buy the game, but I do read all the posts and I totally understand why people are complaining about the game, we cannot help how people feel, try to not let it get you down project.

It would be ignorant for people to just pretend all is right with the world and not complain, then nothing would get fixed.

            Re: So much complaining

My biggest complaint? The lack of communication.

Unless I'm squadded up with former IHS-mates and other friends, there is little to no talking going on. I can see clearly that people are in TS in my squad, but I rarely hear any chatter, no "I'm down, enemies incoming from east." "I'm a safe spawn," etc.

We have a sweet tool that someone clearly put a lot of time into to give us an easy to use VOIP system, use it!

            An aside(mostly) unrelated to BF3:
I knew the game would be a bit of a letdown, but I bought it because many of my friends were getting it, and from playing the beta, it seemed like it'd be close enough that we would have fun playing it and be able to overlook 90% of the shortcomings. TG's "maturity," has dropped in my eyes in the last few years with all the whining and carrying on that its gotten tiring to play here; I come for the teamwork and the relationships I already have. I think we should all drop the pessimistic, "woe is me, the PC gamer," attitude and have fun with the game we have!

              Re: So much complaining

This was supposed to be the golden game. The mosy epic of epic sauces. But alas it isnt. people have a right to complain. I myself never complained about any game, however this one, with all the fuss that was surrounding it and it being a follow up to BF2, a lot of things were thought to be a 'given'. It didnt turn out that way, sowe are going to have to deal with it and play the way we here at TG play, with communication, teamwork and maturity.

And who knows, maybe dice and ea are listening and will fix some issues. We can all hope:)

I've noticed some of this, the biggest advice I can give is keep communicating to then regardless. Alot of times this will get people to reciprocate.

                  Re: So much complaining

It's very easy to be negative about something as highly anticipated as BF3 if it doesn't live up to the admittedly lofty standards to which we subjected it. However, we have a choice: we can take what we have, play it, support the changes we'd like to see in a positive manner, and make the game what we want it to be through our own outlooks and interactions; or we can focus on the parts we don't like and take most of the fun out of the game.

I know which choice I'm going to make.

Spot on....had plenty of times where I had tight lipped squad mates turn into walking UAV's just by continually calling stuff out, asking for orders, etc...

This. As a relatively new member, I've found that some TG'ers aren't that talkative if they're not with their IHS or people they know. Saying "Hello, who else is in TS with me?" usually breaks the ice for *most* people.

                            Re: So much complaining

I get what you are saying ProjectNA.

I don't like the complaining either, at the same time I am aware that I too have been complaining.
I don't want to complain anymore now that the game is out, I feel that the product is finished and if there are things that are not working to your satisfaction you might aswell stop playing.
I have had amazing rounds and utterly crappy rounds.
My problem I think is that I hear all this complaining and just care too much about it. The thing is, there is no way to satisfy everybody in this community. I do feel that the tone overall is pretty negative all around and it is putting me off TS comms and the TG server sometimes.

You hear stuff like, you better be on TS if you are going to play on TG and when you try to squad up, the people either start a new squad and leave the one you've entered or they aren't talking. So you are damned if you try to squad up sometimes and you are damned if you lone wolf to get a hang of the game.

It also gets tiresome to hear the debate of keeping metro or removing it (among other things) and I have said to people on TS that I'd rather see it removed than keeping it, however that is not up to me. Besides as time goes along I have seen some great comebacks on that map.

I guess we complain so much because we care about the game, Many of us have upgraded our pc's, bought supporting memberships because we were promised an amazing game from EA/ Dice and were given a great game. A great game with many bugs and issues, hopefully these bugs and other issues will be ironed out in the coming weeks.

I know that the people in charge over this community are doing their best to make TG the place to play BF3.

This is probably the root of it, and I guessed as much. It was actually cathartic for me to post this, and I got some interesting feedback here and offline. Thank you all for helping me with my Dr. Phil moment.
