  • Mortars from the Un-Cap

Maybe this isn't an issue, but it seems like it is to me; setting up a Mortar and firing from the Un-Cap. It's one thing to fire a weapon that requires line-of-sight, but I don't think you should be able to hide behind a wall, in a place where I can't reach you and fire on my position. You could argue that if someone is engaging you from the Un-Cap then you can engage them back, but I am not going to enter the base and risk running into anyone else while trying to find the Mortar.

    Any other thoughts?

Can you even enter into the enemy base without being autokilled?

mortering back into the enemy base would lead to some issues pretty quickly lol...

In my opinion, if you fire a weapon from the main base you're eligible to be fired back at. However, firing mortars back would likely kill more than the one who was firing at you, so it's probably best to issue a blanket ban on firing mortars from uncaps.

Mortars really aren't that powerful, you have to be directly on the target to get a kill, I just run into the uncap, shoot the person then leave, simple solution.

I agree with this statement. If you shoot a weapon from your uncap, don't complain when I fire back.

TeamWarfare League (TWL) has a standing ban on firing Mortars from the uncap zones. The way I see it is that if it's a good enough rule for a competition league then it's good enough for us. As for the splash damage, I have counter-mortared several uncap-mortars and never killed anyone but my intended target. If you see a teammate setting up a mortar in your uncap, stay away from him.

Admins such as Zzippy can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 100% sure the TG sever ruling is NO mortars from the uncap. I will say this, the other day a TG tagged member was firing mortars from the uncap from underneath a ledge and could not be killed. I was pretty pissed off. There is also a regular non TG player who is on our servers. He is a very good player but takes offense at Admins when they tell him hey you can't do this or that. His reply was that we have to many rules. Wouldn't it be great that the first time you joined a TG bf3 server it executed a script that opened up your web browser to a page for the rules of the server or something...... This is the cause of most of my rage quits.

                Re: Mortars from the Un-Cap

                I think that

                * You are not allowed to fire mortars from your uncap.
                * You are not allowed to enter the enemy uncap to kill those firing mortars.

If someone does fire mortars from their uncap, report them to an admin by typing into chat like so:
"Admin reporting: Player X is firing mortars from uncap"

I always just mortar them right back. Pretty easy solution....

One thing that needs to be more or less defined is where do the boundaries of the uncaps begin. Some are more obvious than others however several maps start with wide open spaces. Also maps like Grand Bazaar are quite tight.

Is it where an opposing player get's an out-of-bounds warning or a specific distance from the UCB center?

As a general rule of thumb I would probably avoid mortaring your opponents UCB. I am sure a BF3 admin can clarify but I would be surprised if this was allowed under any circumstances.

Doesn't the Primer cover these type of things pretty well? Isn't firing mortars from the main essentially "gaming the game"??

I would think it is, so it should be common sense that it isn't allowed.
