  • Recording in Battlefield 3; how are you doing it?

I have also added a POLL, please only answer the poll if you have recorded video in BATTLEFIELD 3!!!

Hello all you TGers out there. I know you guys like playing together, as do I, but I would like to see more teamplay happening! I have a few questions:

I want to capture my audio (in game and TS, etc) and video, How can I do this?

What hardware are the guys that are doing this running?
How much processing power is it taking to run these applications?

What programs are you using to record your gameplay?
What settings are you using in those programs?

    Help us get started please!

I would only recommend fraps or playclaw if you want to record your voice and game sounds and squad voices, its easy in those two programmes

What is your FPS difference going from normal to recording with FRAPS? Is FRAPS recording audio from the game and TS?

Really depends on the map, the server, what settings I'm running, etc etc.

Biggest effect is where the files are writing to.

I'm a fraps noob. I use it for catchin haxerxsss + screenshots to boast.

What resolution do you guys record at and what are you recording to, ie- SSD, HDD etc?

Re: Recording in Battlefield 3; how are you doing it?

I play at screen res 1920*1080
Record at half screen res eg at 960*540
Then edit in vegas and scale up vegas output to res 1280*720, to trigger youtube HD

By recording half screen, the hit on FPS is minimal

The big tip to minimise FPS drop is to record on a seperate drive from windows and the game

Re: Recording in Battlefield 3; how are you doing it?

I've been using MSI afterburner to record video, but listening to myself talk is distracting. I have been planning on recording audio separately with either another audio program or more conveniently with teamspeak. Then I would combine the audio with the video and audio from afterburner. Any one have experience with something similar?

I am somewhat concerned that it won't work as their will be 2 seperate audio streams that need to be handled and I am unsure if windows or my hardware will be able to handle it.

Full version of PlayClaw. Records to a dedicated 1tb 7200rpm drive. Still experimenting with recording size.

Raid 0 also helps with recording. I have my BF3/OS on my SSD and I record over my Raid 0 2x1TB F3s at 1920x1080 and I hardly see any performance hit.
