  • After christmas Internet Fail

You guys wont be seeing much of OldGunney during the evenings as the internet in my area is feeling a large overload due to new mulitplayer games, iPod and iPad FaceTime Wi-Fi connections. THe night after Christmas was just terrible with me getting 16K download. Odd thing was my upload was still about 300K. My ping is usually about 65, but during the evenings I've been getting about 200 ping.

Noticed quit a few players complaining about ping and severe lag druing evening games. I would advise using DSLReports.com to check your internet speeds. Quite usefull. Wont improve your speed, but you should be able to call internet company to complain. Dont know how the internet companies are going to handle the increase in traffic due to new products. Probibly increase our rates or limit our usage.

There has been talk of throttling speeds even more than the ISPs already do and/or limiting access to certain things, such as XBox Live and the like, in the past. I'll definitely be watching to see what happens with that in the future. Anyway, hope yours gets straightened out soon!

I don't think it's online gaming that is the reason for the slow down, it's probably your neighbors streaming HD contents through services like Netflix, Pandora, etc. Everyone's on holiday breaks, sitting at home bored, so they watch movies. Should go back to normal in a few days.

          This is terrible news Gunney.
ISP's get off easy in my opinion with this kind of stuff. They charge everyone for a service, promising download & upload speeds based on upon a mutual agreement, and then when everyone uses it at once they cry and ask for pay-per-usage rates and more things that would benefit them.

I would be outraged, and looking at alternative ISP's. Or considering moving to a less populated area. LOL.
