How to Make a Report on Server
So, in the course of playing on one of the servers, you've probably seen someone violating a server rule like intentional TKing, bunnyhopping, or etc. The question is, well, what can I do about it?
The answer is of course, write an admin report! Why? Well writing a report lets the admins know what's going on as an online admin isn't always on the server with you. And even if they are, chances are they aren't seeing what you are.
What should be reported and why?
Report breaches to the server rules. Why? If you don't report it, the admins can't do anything to help fix the problem. Even if you see the action is question just once, report it. Why? So the admins can keep track of what's going on.
How do you Write a Report?
It's easy, simply follow this format: "Admin reporting <player> <issue>"
"Admin reporting Caboose1234 for Intentional TK"
For a report to go properly through, it is crucial you include the name and what they are doing wrong.
Make sure you write the report in squad chat.
The keywords "Admin reporting" sets off audible alerts to get admins attention and highlights the message in the admin console.
Why should I write my report in squad chat?
This way, no arguments or such break out in all-chat that are not needed.
What if I don't have the name of the person?
It is okay to write a report without a name, but indicate that you don't have one. No action can be taken until you have that name.
"Admin reporting unknown person is attacking the UCB"
"WTF someone just killed me in the UCB"
"Admin reporting" pings the online admins and gets our attention.
What if I want to remind this person of the rule? Can I remind them and report them later?
Remember that reports allow admins to keep a record of what people do. We'd like to know if people are repeat offenders after being reminded or warned.
So to answer the question, yes, doing so is okay, as long as you do it in a proper and respectful manner.
"Hey Caboose1234, please don't bunnyhop. It's against server rules."
Perfect! You have the name in there so the admins know who is causing issues, and you've informed them very nicely!
"Hey idiot, stop bunny hopping or you're going to get banned."
"DUDE WTF. STOP THAT NOW. THAT'S NOT ALLOWED. CUT IT OUT OR YOU'LL BE BANNED."
First off, this isn't nice or respectful. Secondly, we don't have a name. Thirdly, do not suggest admin action; just report the person and what they are doing.
I reported someone and the admins didn't kick/ban them, what's the point?
Not every action results in a kick or ban. Often time, people violate the rules (especially those new to the server) because they don't know them. In this case, a warning is given. However, the choice of warn/kick/ban is made on the basis of what they did and how often they did it (which also takes into account history). Just because nothing happened, doesn't mean your report was ignored.
What if there aren't any admins online?
Go ahead and submit your report in the Contact an Admin forum with the name, server number and time.
- Include names in a report
- Make reports in squad chat
- If you are going to inform someone of a rule, you must do it with the utmost sincerity
- Report even if it is just a first time action
- Don't threaten admin action
The all-chat is NOT the place for rules discussion or argument. As fine members of Tactical Gamer, let's all work together to keeping our servers at the level of conduct and play that we all want to have.
