  • Testing a few more server changes tonight

    First: No changes to gameplay settings.
    Assuming that the upcoming patch will be released in a reasonable time frame, we'll evaluate the effect of all the changes included in it and see if we need to make adjustments on that side.

    However, tonight we hope to begin testing of a few server side scripts that make changes to the server dynamically based on player count. If all goes well, this should make seeding a much more enjoyable experience.

    We'll make a separate announcement with details if/when it's all up and running and get some feedback, no promises yet as it's possible that the scripts will fail miserably :)

    The servers should remain online and be available as usual but maps may be changed manually, and you may see some odd settings now and then.

          The script scales map size to player count, so when the there is 50+ players it should be the large map.

            I've been waiting for this for quite a while. Thanks admin team!

            Can we do dynamic map selection based on player count? We could do Sienne or even Metro when there are only a few players on!
            How about keeping it infantry only until we get 16+?
            What about the game type? Could we do squad deatchmatch or rush until we get more than 8 players?

            I know some of those suggestions are a bit radical. However, I feel that conquest needs a lot of players before it makes sense. Both (squad) rush and squad deathmatch are tons of fun with a low player count.

                Sounds great fallen, can't wait to see all the new stuff. With this and mumble, I think this game is turning out to be at least half of what i expected instead a quarter ;)

                  Scripts are running on both servers and appear to be working (Aside from a BF3 bug).

                  They will dynamically change the server size based on the number of players. As players join the server, it will "grow". This means that rather than seeing [3/52] players in battlelog, people will see [3/8], [9/16], [21/24] etc etc. The maximum size of the server has not changed, it will simply display differently.

                  Along with that, they will also change the map rotation and settings based on the number of players.

                  Current script effects, subject to some more testing over the next few days:
                  • Idle kicks are disabled when there are less than 8 people on the server. Idle kick is 5 minutes when over 8 players.
                  • On our large maps server, vehicles will be disabled with a very low population. We will try to rotate in one or two large maps with jets and helos so people can practice.


                  The scripts work by loading map lists based on the server population, currently both servers are set up like this
                  • 0-20 people - Small maps
                  • 16-28 people - Medium maps
                  • 24-44/52 people - Large maps


                  The overlap in the ranges is so that we're not constantly switching maplists as people join and leave at round end. Small maps will switch to medium at 21 players, and it'll switch back down to small maps when it drops to 15 players. There is a BF3 server bug that causes the server to get stuck at 32 players if a B2K Assault map is in the rotation, We'll work on a workaround for that, but that's why the medium range ends at such a low number (28).

                  The exact boundaries, settings, and maps will be tweaked over the next few days, but if the script continue to work as advertised, we'll be able to enjoy playing even with a smaller population.

                          Loved the adjustable maps 8v8 with the small map was fantastic, armor on Noshar was a little one-sided two good tank crews dominated on the RU side
