  • Server Population Dropping off

I don't know about the rest of you but it seems obvious that the we can barely populate one server most nights and I am curious as to why? If you were playing previously and find that you have stopped or dramatically reduced your playing time chime in as to why.

Most disturbing to me are the number of previous players from BC2 that seem to spend more time on Non-TG servers than on our own.

    Is it level of competition?

Is it boredom with the game?

Not satisfied with the server settings or game play modes ?

General disappointment with the game itself?

What would need to change to get you back online and playing ?

I am really a big fan of the TG way and probably wouldn't play nearly as much as I do if I had to play on pub servers and i hate to see it dying off like it is. Any way nough said let me know what you think?

      Good post Lunn...

I love the fraternity of TG BF3 and the way it's developed. I think the admin team had done a bang up job managing the title. I expect we'll continue to see an ebb and flow of players like we do with all TG titles.

I'm not disappointed with the BF3 at all. Sure I'd like built in voip, six man squads and a commander role but TG has maximized this title in the best possible ways..

My absence can be attributed to ARMA. Pure and simple. BF3 came along at a very opportune time as I had taken a much needed hiatus from ARMA. When BF3 came along I jumped in head first.

I still play BF3, mostly on password nights, but most of my gaming time is spent on the ARMA servers. But...I'll be on tonight and I'm looking forward to it.

        Re: Server Population Dropping off

I was noticing the same thing Lunn. I too absolutely love the TG servers and playing on any other server is just not the same. But with no one joining them anymore, I have no choice but to just go play elsewhere. No point seeding a server that won't fill up past 20 people.

Sometimes I wonder if the problem may be that people cannot find the server. The terrible server browser for this game does not have an option for custom servers so if Normal or Hardcore is selected, then the TG servers cannot be found.

My absence on the TG servers has been attributed some to school and finding a job, but also because every time I hop on, theres no one in the TG servers and seeding the servers almost seems hopeless.

          Re: Server Population Dropping off

Life has generally gotten in my way, and when I can play I like to play on populated servers. I'm guilty of not seeding the server when I should, but my available gaming time is largely limited to 2100-2300 GMT. That's not a busy time frame, even for more popular days. While I admit it's a vicious cycle, seeding is not a brilliant investment of my limited time.

When the TG servers are relatively populated (8+ people, for me), they are always my first choice. My experience of seeding is that server population can sometimes snow-ball, but lately this hasn't happened.

I hope the various SCRIMs attract more players through gameplay videos and word-of-mouth.

I got bored with the game shortly after it came out. I no longer have it installed as it just does not interest me at all. I can't put my finger on why exactly.

                Re: Server Population Dropping off

I can not put my finger on why, but for some reason I simply had a lot more fun back in 2142 and BC2 then I have had so far in BF3. Another interesting point is that while I love voip, it seemed like even in BC2 the comms were much better then they are now, even with an average of 8-10 players all in the same channel. 90% of the time, when I join a squad channel in BF3 no one talks at all, and when I attempt to communicate with the other players I get little more then a grunt in response. Furthermore, unless I happen to be playing with friends who have been around here a while like old IHS mates, it seems that people take the game so seriously that they do not even attempt to make jokes or enjoy what they are doing.

Also, as a whole, BF3 as a game does not seem as interesting to me as previous BF titles have.

                  Re: Server Population Dropping off

I don't care anything about playing on other servers unless it's a pub raid with some TG friends. I haven't been able to play much in the past couple of weeks due to work. I teach and head up some special projects at a local college, and I've been catching up with my duties there as the semester has been ending. So I'd attribute some of it to students doing finals, graduation, looking for a job, etc. Plus it's hot now and people are outside doing stuff. And here in GA, it's hot enough without adding the degrees that running my gaming computer on BF3 causes. But I think I'll be back playing regularly by the weekend, and might be able to make password night tonight.

I'm fine with our VOIP setup. I rather like having it setup through TeamSpeak because it gives you more control that you'd get with an in-game system.

bf3 at TG is a certain kind of experience. Sometimes I would rather have a arcade like experience. So I go to a pub and do goofy stuff.

                        Re: Server Population Dropping off

I havn't seen the server at 64 players for a few months, It gets up to about 30-40 and then drops off after one or two bad rounds.

Kinda disappointing for me, I finally get into a BF game where Im not dying every second step and really having fun with the game and fewer and fewer people play.

                          Re: Server Population Dropping off

The thing that honestly gets me more then anything else is when my friends list (all TG guys) shows 12 or 15 people playing different pub servers. Look, I'm not trying to call anyone out or be a dick, but the community won't be a community if we don't get together and play as a community. That means, yes, seeding servers. It means hanging around when the round gets a little lopsided, trusting that the scramble we have will balance it out for the next time. Yes, sometimes it just doesn't happen, sometimes you want to play 1000 ticket Metro or Firestorm hardcore or whatever. People have tight schedules and want to play real BF instead of seeding a small pop server. But try to resolve to keep the community going.

This is how I felt, and it's why I left BF3.

The infantry/vehicle balance really killed most of the fun of BF3 for me.
