  • [Alpha] Armor Thread

Armor crews check in here. There were plenty more people volunteering to drive the MBT so I didn't bother to sot them as heavily onto the teams as I had to with the pilots. Sound off with unlocks and preferences in the tank. I know a few people specifically stated they were good with the top gun and a wrench or would happily operate the CITV seat. These are the kind of things we need to know.

For the US we start with no armor but will hopefully take alpha/echo and pick up an Abrams or two.

For the RU we start with 3 T-90s and a Tunguska.

I <3 the MBT and have all the unlocks. By preference I will run autoloader, smoke, guided/canister shell as long as I've got a top gunner who is running proximity scan. I'm definitely better as the driver but can run the top gun/CITV and keep up with repairs just about as well.

      Is this unranked or ranked??

Hrmm...I actually do not know. It isn't something we discussed when setting up the scrim. My guess would be that since they are going to have to change the server to a password server for the scrim then it will become unranked...so unlocks maynot matter but I will have to check with my admin liaison who is helping us with the server to figure that one out. I'll get back to you.

I have all unlocks for the mbt. I'm best as driver, but can fill any roll. My best rounds in BF3 have been in the mbt, with squinty spotting and wrenching. He's the best wrench in the game IMO.

I respectfully disagree...Arithea (my wife) is the best...but I may be a little biased on that one. :icon16:

We'll have to decide who gets which tank for RU and who gets the tank first on US when we take Echo or Alpha.

              Re: Armor Thread

Something to think about as RU: The Flanker is much better at air-to-air than the F35, so the Tunguska might be free to support armor. It absolutely murders infantry, I <3 that thing. I'd expect the US to fly with ECM Jammers to avoid SOFLAMs, but that just means that if the Tunguska's AA missiles get a lock, they can both fire at the same time. Between that and superior jets (and I THINK superior pilots), air really shouldn't be something to worry about at all. And every wrench on the Venom means one fewer gun on the ground.

So, yeah, think about using the AA gun as a mobile anti-infantry blender. Unfortunately, smoke is going to be required, so no zoom optics.
I can ADS using more than a 2x without significant stutter! This was a good patch.

Re: ranked or not: I would prefer ranked.

This is no time to be learning how to handle new weapons! It is especially not a good time to figure out how to use new armor perks.

We need experienced armor w***** to drive the armor.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about the ranked/unranked thing for the perks, but bleeding makes a good point; stick with what you know.

Don't forget about the AAMTRAC, mobile spawnpoints are wicked nice. Whichever flag we're sending more people to, the AAMTRAC should go there; it should stick with a tank the entire time and this tag team should be the hammer for pushing on heavy flags. I suggest we send the brunt of our force to the eastern tip of the island so we have a direct line on the airfield. Its an uphill battle, but I think its a bit more straightforward than the western flags; the bridge over there provides an awful chokepoint.

All unlocks up to canister shell. Setup varies on situation. Love the MBT, the Tung is a straight up beast on infantry.

IR smoke, guided shell + soflam = beast

Love driving but being a wrench monkey is fine by me as well.

I like Anospa's idea of MBT/AMTRAC tag team. Support that with a wrench monkey or two and you've got a pretty devastating spearhead for your assault.

Yeah, we cannot afford to let that die either, it will take way too long for it to be brought back up to the frontlines. Its surprisingly tough, but should be played very defensively.

The role it needs to fulfill is a mobile spawn point. That will allow us to take Charlie when the time comes.

Do we have anyone who wants to drive the AMTRAC? We'll kinda need to devote a 2-man crew to it if we want to make it a central parts of the strategy.

Very nice, and usually under utilized piece of equipment. It can be quite devastating in the right hands, just behind the front lines, supporting attacks, or defending. I usually like to keep it low on the outside beach, to reduce soflam/air exposure. Doing the right thing with it, and keeping it safe for spawns, is not always the most exciting job, so it's hard to find takers, but it is important. IMO

I'd willing to wrench/drive for the AMTRAC. I agree with Bear to get it south onto the outside beach out of the eyes of the soflams. Perhaps moving it along the beach to support taking flags, A, B then up to C if needed. For it to last any length of time it will have to stay behind friendly lines.
