  • [Alpha] Charlie Squad Check-In and Discussion

Hey Charlie Squad mates. This is the place to say yo and discuss specifics to our squad like kits, strategy, etc. Once the overall strat is finalized I plan on posting our squad's specific role and then read what ideas you all have to implement the role.

FYI: I am unable to game due to RL (work has me out of town) until Wednesday evening next week. However, I will be available that evening and most of Friday (day and evening) to get together and try and get some rounds in playing together.

    Yo!

I feel pretty confident playing as medic in any instance, even though I pretty much only play Anti-Tank/Air on a daily basis. . . Have not played any recon, and my time behind a LMG is limited, but I have played a couple hours of support with with each of the default weapons, the M27 and RPK, in the past.

As for strats, I guess that depends on where our squad is being stationed in the big picture. IMO, we hit Charlie like Omaha Beach, then sweep em off the north peninsula, D then E, while holding C, then squeeze em out of the south, first B, then A as the final push as they will be cornered and bleeding badly. Offense, as with Defense, it is all about the Airfield on Wake Island. I have played enough of this map in the past to know that regardless of which version of the game we are playing, the Airfield typically gives the owner a winning edge.

Lekdevil checking in, replacing MacLeod (who wanted to be in Delta squad and swapped places with me). Feel free to volunteer me for any role within the squad, as I'm reasonably experienced with all the different kits by now. I'm looking forward to charge into battle with you guys. :)

Hey guys. I haven't gotten word on a specific plan yet for offense/defense. Once there is a decision I will relay to you all what are mission is and we can discuss within the thread what the best kits are and such. Hope to see something in the next few days.

I was away as well, but I should be online here every night this week (PST). I'll be going on our practice server from time to time, so if you see me in game on Battlelog look for me either in the admin or the 19th TS channels.

          Have fun, Zip

Well, then, gentlemen. As gleaned from the offensive and defensive strategy discussion threads, it appears our respective missions will be (entirely unofficial and bypassing the chain of command):

            • On offence: assault and hold Alpha flag, in concert with Alpha and Echo squads, plus the AMTRAC. We'll leave the task of driving the tank spawning at Alpha to the armour squad, and will thusly fulfil a ground pounder role exclusively.
            • On defence: we'll be Charlie-on-the-spot, holding our spawns until the commander determines where to deploy us and what our mission will be.

And there you have it. Frankly, there is not all that much to go on, but perhaps we can use the information we do have to make some decisions regarding squad structure, kit selection, squad specialisations, and such. What you say? :)

Seems to be the idea from the threads, Lek. I will be at this evening's planning walk through and post here what is decided from the meeting. Anyone not comfortable with a particular kit? Reason I ask is in case one of the plans calls for a particular kit heavy squad. I am not fantastic with Recon but can play the others well enough. I will check the original sign up thread to see what you all said about kit preference but may be good to mention here as well. If any of you make it to this evening's run through we can chat for few minutes after to finalize thoughts.

I did some poking around the Alpha flag area today, and came up with something that might prove useful on our offensive quest. The image below shows what I've determined to be the cap radius around the flag.

As you can see, the grounds inside the Alpha compound perimeter are part of that cap radius, but what might not be obvious to all is that the three buildings to the South and East and half of the Northernmost building are part of the cap area as well.

These structures make for some nice hiding spots and defensible emplacements. Something to keep in mind when rooting out the enemy or, conversely, preventing our foes from retaking "our" flag. :)

I'm fine with any kit Grim. Keep in mind the server will be unranked, and the upper tier sniper guns are deadly accurate at almost any range. Although the recon may be better equipt with a machine gun or shotty when we asault.

Assaulting Aplha should be interesting as that flag is located closer to the point than E's flag. The enemy is sure to have a tank squad and Soflam/Javs squad at the very least. Our landing craft should be wary of mines as well.

Whatever the case, scrims have a very fast pace, so fill up on the Java and turn off your cell phones :icon12:

Looking forward to having a fun time with you guys!

Thanks for everyone showing up to scrim discussion. Preliminary thought on our assault of Alpha flag. Lek go recon with MAV. I'll run assault as will Angel. Zippy go engineer. I'll spawn grad boat and have Lek spawn in as second. We will make to the point and Lek move immediately to set up MAV while Angel and Zippy spawn in and advance with me. I could see 320 smoke being useful and one of the assaults may run this. What do you all think? See Lek's post about flag radius. May try to get into a building or move on outside beach to manuever behind flag and try to take it from Bravo side. Thoughts?

re: Charlie Squad Check-In and Discussion

Excellent! As it seems I will be your friendly neighbourhood MAV operator tonight, I've come up with a set of names to indicate the various locations around the Alpha flag area. Most of them are fairly straightforward, but make sure you'll be able to distinguish between buildings one through four (I couldn't think of names any more creative than that).

Also, as I'm heroically lying prone in the sand, flying my eye-in-the-sky robotic warrior, I do think I'll need an ammo box right next to me. In the event that Mr. MAV gets knocked out, I'll then be able to quickly launch a fresh one and resume transmissions. Any idea where such a box of ammo goodies could be obtained?

Next, do we want to deploy a spawn beacon? The benefits conferred by this nifty piece of technology are, of course, that we can spawn in when we've been wiped out completely, and that it's somewhat difficult for the enemy to locate. The drawbacks are that, when yours truly decides to emerge from his hiding spot and advance towards Alpha, you all won't be able to spawn in on my location, but can only opt to materialise at the spawn beacon. Also, given the dearth of covered structures, the spawn beacon entry will most likely involve a lengthy parachute drop.

Finally, speaking of advancing: please let me know when you need me to do that. The MAV will then float down to the ground and will continue to operate autonomously, acting like a motion detector until destroyed by enemy fire.

I'll conclude by wishing us all good luck with this great and noble undertaking! We shall fight them on the beaches, in the fields, and just about anywhere, and let's make sure we'll never surrender!

I can come in as support to drop that ammo box and move forward. We could do away with the engineer and have still have two assaults. I'm sure there will be an OpFor engineer kit or two we can scavenge if needed. I will post in Echo squad thread a request to bring engineers and we can cover all kits for the initial rush.

Oh, and One More Thing™: what will be our kit selection on defence? Since we're supposed to be part of the quick reaction force, I'd rather have that decided in advance, so as not to fumble the controls and spawn as a field cook, or something.

Grim. To answer your post in echo thread. . . I haven't seen or heard from Drona to know how we are getting to land. I know our objective is to take A at this point. We will be running 1 assault 1support and 2 engies with jav.

Thanks guys. Very well played. Lek: awesome job with the MAV. Zippy and Angel you guys did great with the armor when we didn't plan to use it. The push to Charlie on offense was classic. Enjoyed both rounds. Thanks
