I would like some honest ideas if dice/ea doesnt pull through with voip, what are some other options for squad and sl communication?

He did some great work with TS. search for it in the BC2 forums.

Project mentioned the admins have something up their sleeve.

My guess is to kidnap Killrog and hold him for ransom until we in game VOIP...but I've been wrong before.

Yeah as soon as DICE release the admin client then Knyghtmare can get access to the server and finalise his teamspeak squad channel program, then BANG TG have a real alternative to provide squad voip. There may even be a version of squad to squad voip done through teamspeak (speculation, not confirmed from the admins). Obviously we need squad voip for vidoes ;)

                    Re: squad communication

I think we will end up using TS3 for voip unless DICE implements decent voip in game and not through battlelog. We will have 8 designated squad channels for team A and 8 for team B. We may be automatically moved into a squad channel via script. People will use those squad channels for standard squad voip coms. If you want to talk to your team, set up 2 whisper lists 1 to team A squad channels and the other to team B squad channels.

Setting up whisper lists for squad leaders on the fly seems problematic due to how often they change. If everyone is in squad channels designated for team A and B then two whisper lists to those channels will always communicate the info to those squads. It is essentially team voip + squad voip.

Ideal: In game voip that has one key for talking to team and another for talking with squad.
Close to ideal: in game squad voip and TS for team coms
less than ideal: in game team only voip and squad voip on TS.
meh, it will sort of work: TS squad voip and whisper lists to other squad channels.
bleh, I dont think it will work: TS squad voip and whisper lists to other squad leaders. Compliance here is very difficult. this will result in the same people squad leading over and over.
                    action title: TS team voip
slit wrists: Free for all and do what you want for voip, (like we do in bc2 now: some peeps in squad voip and some in team voip)

Major issue with all whisper list solutions is that you could be talking over critical squad coms when you wisper another channel or squad leader.

                      Re: squad communication

We've been a little tight-lipped about the TS3/Squad-VOIP solution simply because it's not working yet, and we're not 100% sure what the final product will be. We'll be debugging and testing on the BC2 server over the next two weeks so be on the lookout for that.

That being said, here's the rough design; again, subject to change.

                      - Players join TS and move themselves into a TBD ‘BF3 waiting-room’ channel to opt-in to the service. Then the magic happens:
                      - The service checks which squad you’re in in-game, and automatically moves you to the proper channel. Your PTT-button becomes your squad-VOIP.
                      - The service will also identify in-game squad-leaders and grant them access to the SL-to-SL radio-net.
                      - Every SL will be able to listen on the SL-net simply by joining TS; but to talk on it, you’ll need to install a tiny TS-plugin. (This plugin creates and updates a whisper-list on-the-fly, based on in-game data.) Heh, if we get real fancy, we might even try inserting a little <beep> or <pshht> to the start of SL broadcasts - so SL's can differentiate comms.

                              This all sounds Awesome !

                              So the TG formulae is
BF3 + teamspeak squad voip + teamspeak SL to SL voip + squadless kick + SM slots
This is as good as it can possibly get
