  • Shooting those jets down

Having trouble shooting those jets down because they keep deploying the flares? Then get a buddy to help! He shoots first, the jet deploys flare, then you shoot your stinger before jet can redeploy the flares. But you got to time it just right and shoot right after the flares are deployed. I do believe there is a lock timeout so the second person should watch what is going on before spotting with the stinger weapon. This will have to be a learning experience.

An ammo guy nearby would always be useful in keeping the sky clear!

      Re: Shooting those jets down

      Good info.

Obtaining air superiority is hard and ineffective only using jets and choppers. However Getting help from the ground from the mobile AA(which I believe have 2 AA missiles loaded) and engineers with SAMs open up for the jets and choppers to do things that will actually have an effect on the outcome of the battle.

Jets fighting jets serves no purposes. However, if one jet is taken out of the equation, then the other jet will actually be able to provide USEFUL air support to the ground troops.

So please, pilots: no heat seekers, the gun with be more effective and faster. Use the weapon slot for guided missiles and possibly rockets.

That's great advice. A dedicated AA squad would be a great asset on some of these air heavy maps. I earned the Igla recently and have had fun with it but have run out of ammo a bunch. What you need is two guys with AA and a third guy with ammo, who could also provide security.

Cool...I earned that perk a couple of days ago I think. Good to know. I knew there were extra rpg's but of course the Igla fires a rocket too...should've thought of that...

Wonder if one person could load and reload fast enough to defeat the flares. I fired four rockts and only scored one hit/kill so those flares are effective.

Yes, if you're fast and able to aim well enough, you can fire a stinger/IGL once, reload, and fire again before flares are up. However, a good pilot will almost always be able to dodge not only the first, but the second shot if they are experienced fliers.

One downside of the buddy AA system is it requires two people to field engineer + AA rockets, which can really lower the effectiveness of a squad at handling a MBT on the road.

The solution is to use a SOFLAM and laser designate for all guided rockets and aircraft to kill the intended target (ground or air).

The MAA can also apply the same "trick" by firing one missile and waiting for the flares before firing its other missile (but its still dodgable by the aircraft if they are experienced with that type of tactic).

How does the lasering a target work? Is it a Recon unlock?

Yes, use the unlocked SOFLAM to lase targets.

                      Re: Shooting those jets down

On a side note, anyone know what the Mobile AA vehicle is and where you can find them? The only one I've found is more or less stationary near the air-field in Caspian and is very ineffective at actually taking down planes.

Firing directly at a fast mover, if they're flying towards you, also tends to score more hits than from the side or behind. That way the time to encounter is much shorter as both the rocket and jet move towards each other. Firing from behind gives them way to much time to juke out of the way as your rocket tries to catch up and firing from the side also seems to fail a lot as your shot needs to turn as the jet flies by.

But hey, if you're feeling really silly, try to shoot down a jet with a MBT. Hardly effective, but very satisfying when you snipe a guy out of his cockpit.

Do some research in battlelog to find the information about them.

I have been very effective with the AA and mobile AA guns. The aircraft stop coming around your base once you take down a few jets and helos.... I also take out infantry and make it a priority to spot everything I can for my team.

The mobile AA can be found on all vehicle heavy maps and can be very dangerous to aircraft. Good pilot will know how to handle them however.

Mobile AA is a pain, though its generally only a problem if I am tailing someone, then it can become a choice between trying to get the kill or trying to stay alive.

So far, I have completely ignored the jets and seem no worse for it. Maybe there is a high level air to ground weapon unlock that is waiting to destroy me when more players level up, but for now the jet jockies just seem to dogfight with each other and have no impact on flags or MCOMs. The only impact they have on the rest of us is shooting down helis, which DO impact the ground war. But helis can also be shot down with stinger/igla, so not worth assigning someone to a jet just for that duty.
