We can all agree that having to put orders on Q is very annoying. Let us have the good ol' T key back.

I know my last "SL spawn only-post" caught some wind. And I can play without it, thanks to VOIP.

Also, the SL must disembark a vehicle to put down an attack/defend marker. In SOE's PS2 this can be done on the minimap -- very handy.

SOE really nailed a lot of useful innovations. Sadly, EA seems content to recycle old problems and invent new ones!

How about we stop comparing this to PS2. It's not the same scale(which would require those useful innovations to organize players)..... Nor the same game. Let's focus on incorporating the features we DO have into our style of play.

Come on now. It is not like I punched your baby in the face.

I think the points are relevant and poignant. Comparison is essential for understanding and evaluation. After all, if PS2 was sooo great would I be here?

Someone posted this, might be a photoshop mock-up.

Looks like a clutter of options. Not good.

Re: Commo-rose for Squadleader - need some help!

I am glad you made a reddit thread on this. I did one in battlelog, but of course it got washed away by all the trash-threads. What makes me want to tear my hair out is the fact that they already made this mistake in BC2, then corrected it in BF3 and now brought it back!

You should all have a look at this thread though, that guy made a pretty good concept of an evolved commo rose:

And I agree with e-male, it should be possible to mark objectives via minimap.

Also, did you notice, objective markings (as well as ammo/ meds requests) do not translate into the chat if you use only the Q tap rather than the commo rose? I find this not good...

Talking of evolving the command rose... an option I very often wish I had is an "spawn on me asap" option, that expands into "medic", "engie", etc.

On a different note regarding the command rose, I find the mouse cursor selection to be too slow as well... the radial menu bound selection was better... granted it was poorly implemented in BF3.

Yeah, I'm over it as well.

by double clicking "Q" on a flag it essentially does what the "T" did in bf2124
I hope to see them incorporate move markers maybe, those always helped in bf2142

Lol am I the only one who likes q for spotting/orders, reminiscent of PR. Plus I thought you could place markers on the map, hence all the fuss about the dual screen/tablet map?

Re: Commo-rose for Squadleader - need some help!

I am divided on this. I played some more last night, squad leading pubbies. Lets forget about how THEY performed and instead think about the tools I was given.

I kinda agree - EA are dumb so we have to make do with what we are given. However.....

I HATE to draw this comparison as it gets knickers twisted on people on both sides of the argument, but here goes anyway. I simply can not comprehend why EA take OUT functionality that was working great in BF2. I KNOW this is not BF2. I KNOW this is not a sequel (though it technically is). But the ability to pop up a map and spot or drop markers etc was so simple. Why have they STILL not added that back. Q is fine for some things, but I disagree in principle with Q spotting of enemies. Too easy, to in your face.

Q is great for saying "Go attack that flag" - but what if I want to move my squad somewhere that ISN'T a flag? An intersection choke point or something?

Next, 5 men squads. I realise I am spoiled by PR having 6 and now 10 men squads and 100 player servers, but can they not seek to even try to evolve the genre they are trying to dominate in? As is it just feels like I am missing a player. I realise that is probably just perception, but on these tiny maps where you are never more than the next street away from a vehicle, it would be nice to have a little more help.

I have no anger about these things like I did in BF3 - I am resigned to their design choices and I will no doubt buy it because you guys play, but Jesus it would be nice if they moved things forward. All I see they have done is added a backup sight option, and slightly fancier graphics, and finally delivering some of the promises of functionality they promised BF3 would have.

Those things considered, I like the slightly slowed down game play, but they could go a lot further in that. Make Vehicles slightly more vulnerable. Get rid of auto heal and auto repair. But I am hoping Hardcore Mode allows for those perks. Weapons feel decent, movement is nice too. The peek option is cool, rarely used as yet but I see how it could work. I wish lean and trackIR was in from ArmA, but lets not be too demanding! :)

Man, the money I would pay for this if they gave us mod tools..........

Re: Commo-rose for Squadleader - need some help!

Placing a map marker with a couple of clicks is no less artificial than a 'q' spot, simply appears so due to learned habits and preferences.

All games are artifice, approximations of actions. The best way to point out an enemy is voip. Its also the most realistic.

As for map size I find the beta map to be a considerable improvement on many of the previous BF3 maps. I can't put my finger on but the engagement times have a better rhythm to them. You can and do get more periods of quiet, more lullz before the storm. It feels a lot less "arrrgggh hold finger down on the trigger' and a lot more 'have we cleared this area'. Just seems like there has been a lot more opportunity to use bounding etc and the voip has facilitated that as well obviously.

They also have appeared to have done a really nice job balancing the classes. Each one has strengths and weaknesses naturally but the choices are a lot less stark and unrealistic. The customisation and cross platform weapons means people have more tactical flexibility and can in fact use weapons poo latforms in a logical way.

This in turn means the weapons platforms can be assigned more logical values and capabilities. That way you don't end up with stupid situations where some 9mm smg outperforms a carbine because it has to dues to class limitations, ie that class needs a comparable weapon (ala BF3). Now a recon can carry a carbine etc.

Better co-dependency between classes through mechanisms such as reduced ammo counts and ammo only replenishing a mag or so, a nice nod to MOH Warfighter's 'buddy mechanic'. This encourages closer teamwork as opposed to the drop the magic ammo box of BF3.

Back up sights, yes, MOH WF again, so glad that made it in.

Personally I'm really enjoying the beta and can't wait for the full release (minus CPU bug).

Can't agree more. I hate recon in bf3. In bf4 I run recon with carbine and am much more efficient at taking out vehicles (c4 and soflam). Loving the small changes they have made for teamwork like slower play and VoIP. My only gripe in it all is the outrageous amounts of roof wookies.
One or two snipers is fine. What I am seeing it's going to be hard to get flags turned over because are going to be no one on the ground

You seem surprised.. This has been brought up in every BF title over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I'm not really having a hard time with it. I can use "q" or "t" just as easily.

The lack of a SL commo rose means that SL's now have to do a better job of articulating where to go and what to do when the squad gets there, rather than popping down a map marker and saying "do that."

While I think a T-Rose would be nice, it is not necessary for a competent squad leader to do his job and for his hopefully competent squad to follow.
