  • Flashbacks to previous BF games... a good thing

Damonte played a few rounds of the beta last night. At one point, he spawned on his squad who was sitting on the rooftop of a building.

He flashed back to BF2142 and all the rooftop camping that took place early in the years of it's tenure here at TG... and that wasn't an all together bad thing (the flashback, not the camping). Suddenly, everything felt right.

True, being on the roof in BF4 isn't the same as BF2142, but wow it was quite a trip down memory lane for a moment. So much so that Damonte started talking again... and pre-ordered BF4.

It can't be just me but everytime I read your posts I do it in Morgan Freeman's voice in my head as if he is narrating your life.

That may be the kindest thing anyone has ever said about Damonte...

Aimed is gonna have to get neg rep for doing that to me ;) (Ah, I miss those days of post derailment within 2 posts, but I must be cautious because that may inadvertently put us back on topic)

Yes, but which Damonte is having the flashbacks? :p

I'll admit I had a few rooftop camping flashbacks myself last week. Good to see at least one Damonte back in the game! :)

            You too, Spur!

I dunno about you guys... but I'm having flashbacks of dropping bombs from the bomber across a base and getting 20+ kills at once... and there's not even a jet in the beta.

So.. is that a good thing? Or... am I going to be disappointed? :P

Here is a flashback from 2007. A TG Scrim, captured in my Battleplan.

                            TG Scrim
                            February 10, 2007

Ukraine – Rolling Thunder – Battle Plan – Revised Final Version
                            CO E-Male

                            Lost image: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/2...ukraineyo5.jpg

                            Strategy:
Primary strategy is to gain control of all three flags West of the river – Train Yard, Village, and Windmills.

A four-tank armour squad will keep the enemy pinned down at the Bridge flag and prevent any enemy from crossing the river westward at the Bridge.

If we lose a flag, then the goal is to re-gain the fallen flag.

Squad leaders must read all squad plans outlined below and be fully aware of complete battle plans.

                            Initial Deployment:

                            Squad 1 (five men)
-- will capture and hold Train Yard.

SL1 will role out with SL6 in a heavy jeep. Do not use the light jeep parked near the flag. Have one squad member take a light tank from the UCB. Spawn the rest of your squad in at the Train Yard flag. Note that squad 6, a three man squad, will assist with the defence. Squad 6 will be tasked with defending the bridge itself, freeing squad 1 to concentrate on North and South flanks. C4 should immediately be placed on the flag by squad 1. Your squad will own the tank that spawns at the Yard. SL1 must role out with SL6 in the same jeep. Initial Armour: One tank at the flag. One UCB light tank.

                            Squad 2 (five men)
-- will capture and hold Windmill.

SL2 will roll out with SL3 in the fast jeep parked near the flag (SL2 must be the driver), do not use a heavy jeep. Spawn your men at Windmill, and have your men mine the bridge immediately. One of your men must be a spec-ops, so as to provide an attack marker for the arty. His priority is to immediately provide our arty with an attack marker on the enemy’s postion in the Windmill area (if no obvious postion presents itself, an arty marker is to be provided on the Windmill bridge itself). SL2 must instruct his men to hold the front line of the defense of Windmill, taking the brunt of the initial attack. SL2 will carry on in fast jeep via extreme eastern edge of map and position in woods Northeast of Farm. SL2’s piority in this mission is speed and stealth. SL2 will hide and hold in position until CO or SL2 has determined that enemy numbers are low at the Farm. SL2 will immediately order men to begin spawning in on SL2 (the assault on Farm should take place very early on in the battle, as you are more likely to be detected with the passage of time). If the subsequent assault on Farm fails, spawn your squad back at the Windmill. Squad 3 (not squad two) will use the tank and APC available at the Windmill. SL2 must role out with SL3 in same jeep. Required Kits: one spec-ops at Windmill.

                            Squad 3 (six men)
-- will capture and hold Windmill.

SL3 will roll out with SL2 in the fast jeep that is parked near the flag (SL2 must be the driver). Do not use the heavy jeeps parked East of the flag. Spawn you men in at Windmill, secure tha flag and establish a defence. You will be immiediately met by enemy forces. C4 should immediately be placed on the flag. Tank and APC available at flag – gaining control of the armour is your first priority. Second priority is to secure your Sourthern flank -- mine the land bridge. Squad 3 will use the tank and APC available at the Windmill. Send an armour unit to watch over land bridge if possible. Land bridge is your weakest flank – watch it carefully. Two tanks from our armour squad will be holding North of your position and can be called in via the CO for support. You will also have priority air cover from our attack helo during the opening moments of the battle. Initial armour: tank and APC spawn at Windmill flag. Required Kits: One of your men must make use of the anti-air pick-up kit available at the Windmill.

                            Squad 4 (4 men – armour)
-- will suppress the Bridge flag.

Take two light tanks and the one heavy tank from the UCB and move all three tanks to suppress the Bridge flag. Do not take all four tanks from the UCB. Have one of your men spawn in at the Village flag and take its tank to your position. Prevent the enemy from crossing the central bridge. Suppress from a distance – we will not be taking the Bridge flag. A supply box will be made immediately available once you request it. You get first supply drop. If possible, have one infantry as spec ops so as to direct arty fire.

                            Squad 5 (4 men)
-- will capture and hold Village.

SL5 will role out alone in a heavy jeep. Do not use the light jeep parked near the flag. Spawn men in on the flag. C4 should immediately be placed on the flag. Tank is for the armour squad, do not use.

                            Squad 6 (3 men)
-- will capture and hold Train Yard with squad 1.

SL6 will role out with SL1 in heavy jeep. Do not use the light jeep parked near the flag. Set up for defence at the Train Yard. Squad 6 will focus on the bridge. Mine the bridge. SL6 must have at least one anti-tank infantry stationed at the bridge.

Squad 7 – ARTY stand alone one man squad. Arty is to begin immediately shelling the Windmill bridge area, with extreme care not to hit our two squads assulting this flag. ARTY must first leave UCB (rules of engagement).

Squad 8 – Two man Attack Helo Squad

Immediately provide air cover for our attack on Windmill. Focus all affort on the Windmill assault during the opening moments of the battle. Stay over our Western side of river, avoid the AA at the Bridge flag.

Standing Orders for All Squad Leaders

To avoid two or more squad leaders speaking at once, which only leads to more communication for clearification, please BEGIN ALL COMMUNICATION WITH "Squad X Here" and wait for my acknowledgement -- "Squad X go ahead." If you do not hear from me in 10 seconds repeat, as I will respond with either "Squad X go ahead" or "Squad X hold." I ask ALL squad leaders to precisely follow this pattern – it will save time and we will be more efficient, even if an occassional critical moment passes (which simply means the CO was tied-up dealing with another critical moment...).

Report when an objective is completed/gained.

Report when an objective is lost or not achieved.

Request a spawn-to location BEFORE respawning self when you and your squad is wiped out. "Squad 5 wiped out, Objective (flag name) lost. Requesting spawn-to location."

Request backup before you are overwhelmed. We have a armour squad, but they will not be effective if they are always late. Note that it is not always possible to send backup, and often you will be left to do the improbable under impossible circumstances.

“Just as water retains no constant shape, so in warfare there are no constant conditions.”

                              TL;DR

Was there a fond memory in there somewhere? Or just a clinical recap of a scrim? I don't mean any offense...it just didn't seem to fit the theme of the thread.

On another note, (seeing as how Lyra just posted) I remember the many times that crazy German would get in a walker and terrorize the entire team. It always reminded me of the Japanese Godzilla flicks where everyone would just run away screaming and hide. Especially when that mechanical beast would come storming into the comm tower flag on Belgrade. Lol! Good times.
