  • NEW BF4 Class type **ARMOR NINJA**

No, it’s not upcoming from the devs. No, it’s not in the next patch, but now that I have your attention I thought about sharing my secrets on how I get to sneak up on ya’all and blow your armor with my silly C4 packs. Let me give you some background. I LOVE to C4 armor. It’s my most favoritst thing to do in the game, period. My number 2 most favorite thing to do is knife snipers, but that’s a discussion for another time. This is to introduce you all to disciplines and time honored tradition of attaining the plateau of being an ARMOR NINJA.

It’s all of the ancient secrets, lost long ago but recovered after much deliberation (..and death…lots and lots of deaths) which allowed me to transcend to this heightened awareness. To use stealth and speed and commune with nature to help me to attain the status of “ARMOR NINJA”.

What is this “ARMOR NINJA” you ask? Well, it’s an attitude, a focus, a chi that gives the recipient the ability to greatly increase their success rate on survivability of attempting an attack on armor using C4.

How does one learn how to achieve this higher state? Dying helps. I mean dying many many times helps. Through this, you learn the tendency of people’s mindsets and awareness in armor. While part of this is where the art of understanding your enemy and is not fool proof, I will share my experiences and what I use to determine if it is a reasonable risk to attempt a C4 attack on armor.

Secrets to keep in mind on deciding about whether to approach armor or not for a C4 attack.

    1. Awareness. Watching how the driver operates the armor as well as anyone else with access to fire a weapon while on board the piece of armor is critically important. Spending a few seconds will greatly increase your chances of survival because you will find the driver’s “tells” like in poker.

    2. Track the armor’s movement. A piece of armor that stands still without infantry support is significantly more vulnerable to a C4 attack than one that has infantry escort OR keeps moving. If an armored vehicle stays still for more than about 4 seconds (the time to plant 3 C4’s on it, yes I know 2 will do the job generally) it becomes more vulnerable on a factor of 3 or 4 times than if it moves 6 feet or more constantly. Also, it goes without saying infantry support makes any attempt to engage the armor more difficult. If anyone wants me to discuss ways to mitigate that danger, let me know.

    3. Watch the turrets if they are on the armor to see how the driver and occupants are scanning for enemies. If the turrets are consistently focused on one direction then the armor is significantly more vulnerable. By now, I don’t consider the mobile AA a challenge any longer, it just requires the right amount of time and patience to defeat it. Tanks are second on that list, and then APC’s and buggies are hardest of the land vehicles.

    4. Water vehicles (boats not jetski’s) are easier in some ways because of the partial concealment of swimming underwater. And yes, I am always looking for a way to sneak on an attack boat as well. If you’re sitting still firing happily on the shoreline and not looking underwater for targets, I am probably already planting C4 on your boat.

    5. Work as a squad to keep the driver and gunners attention away from you through coordination. If the armor is hit by 1 anti armor weapon, the attention of the occupants of the vehicle will track the area where the weapon was fired from for at least 10 seconds on average. Combine that with point #2 and you will realize is plenty of time to set your C4. Also, let your squad know you’re attempting the C4 plant so they don’t shoot the armor while you’re in direct proximity with the armor. I die many times from friendly fire because I forget to tell my squad I’m close to the target.

    6. Use the driver’s tendencies against him. If he drives forward and backward consistently looking for targets to fire upon, he’s not looking at the ground ahead and behind him. Placing the C4 on the ground on the driver’s typical path will score many more kills than you think is possible if you stay out of sight.

    7. If the armor is near a building and you have access to the roof, and can get the armor close to the building, then the kill is almost certain. Location above is significantly more deadly to armor.

These are just a few of the factors to begin your training to attain **ARMOR NINJA**

This could be your undoing my friend. Be warned. *insert silly emoticon here*

My usual way to defeating C4 ninjas is to use IRNV on the vehicles I drive. You can also use FLIR if that's your preference. I tell my gunners to keep those turrets rotating and scanning for enemies. Otherwise, as Photo has pointed out, it makes us extremely vulnerable.

Good stuff. This is probably my favorite thing to do, too. I noticed you got quite a few C4 kills the other night in our squad. Someone would call out a tank and there's photo already sneaking up behind it, then.. kaboom.

I don't really have any other tips to add, you covered it well. One thing I always look for is the gunner turret. If it's moving in unison with the main turret, you know there isn't a gunner. Get in there fast before a gunner spawns in.

A well outfitted Anti-vehicle squad has a support and recon. Both who can carry C4. The guys with the AT serve as the absolute best distraction for making easy C4 runs. I cannot stress this point enough to people. Most of hte AT weapons take too many hits to get kills, but they are amazing at getting the turret turned in your favor. Communicate with your squad when you are ready to pounce and when their rockets come in, the turret swivels towards them and then you can make the dash for the cash.

Ah yes, the illusive art of C4ing vehicles. Rather deadly and effective in the right hands, and one more reminder to never man a tank without a gunner.

I, myself, have been slowly becoming rather deadly with M2 SLAMS. I love setting up chokepoints and well-placed traps and just being an utter nuisance to armor with them. They're easier to conceal than the big ol' dinner plates (AT mines). It makes me giggle when I hear a big KABOOM off in the distance, followed by kill notifications appearing on my screen. I know....I'm a devious one.

I've also discovered another sneaky trick with SLAMs that is absolutely effective for taking out armor quickly. I'll choose not to disclose that secret, but it takes a little bit of skill, timing and stealth. :)

I have to be honest here, for a while, I was calling out "Happy Birthday" and blowing the tank, in homage to the following:

I sure hope mantis will pop in and repost the POE2 round where he was destroying tank after tank with C4 and being resupplied from a crate that was meant to repair the same armor he was devastating.

I love those M2 SLAMs as well. They are so much easier to hide than the other mines. There are countless places to hide them with their surprisingly wide radius of detection and destruction. My other favorite is to place them on armor just as you would C4. They blow after a few seconds of movement. Just enough time to escape safely.

Re: NEW BF4 Class type **ARMOR NINJA**

As someone who plays mostly AT Engie(24 Service Stars), with M15 mines and RPG, I love trapping armor. In my own way. Of course I get killed a lot doing it. But it is very satisfying to pull it off. That stationary armor driver is usually looking at a small window of targets in the distance. Leaving a wide area to flank them, toss a couple mines right next to them, run off about 20 meters and firing a RPG at the armor near the point where those mines are stacked, BOOM, one hit kill.

Funniest ninja moment was on Silk last week... as I was dropping mines by a tank firing down on the center flag, the gunner never looked around, as they just spammed LMG fire... Some enemy player threw a nade at me, killed me, set off the mines and killed the tank and I got 3 enemy kills. I guess a SL was in the tank and had hoped out so someone else could spawn at that moment.

As others have said, placing mines takes a little skill and forethought.. Although it seems that the obvious ones that I toss in the middle of the road are usually ran over by a friendly. I have found that stacking two M15 mines in a piece of debris is a sure way to get kills, friendly or not :) I certainly have been kicked quite a bit since the change to HC for mines, even by squad mates who run them over, after I warn them. Most recently, Monday: had mines at flag we are defending, enemy LAV comes in, trips a couple of mines, he hops out, squadie kills him, I go to pick up mines in front of LAV so we can save it, and get ran over by another squadie, he hits mine I was going to pick up, I get kicked, fun times.

What is disturbing about the current influx of players, brought by the current HC settings, is how many times I have been TKd on purpose for dropping mines on the road. Yes, that is correct, I am being TKd for my mines. Recently my squad was defending a flag, I had just dropped mines and turned to see a friendly tank coming.. I start jumping up and down on the mines, he runs me over and gets killed by the 6 mines placed at the gate.. even though he could have easily gone through the hole to the left, where the LAV before him went. I then see said player type !P into chat. I laughed, and replied, "punish/forgive dont work here, 6 TKs = kick"

If you have the patience or the foresight, placing c4 in an area where the vehicle is likely to travel beforehand and detonating as it drives past/over is much better for your health.

Yeah, but not as fun. I like the risk involved, makes the reward better.

I've done that before. I remember one particular moment in BF3 on one of the Aftermath maps, I nailed the same person multiple times because he kept barreling through my trap in a tank. Same spot, every single time. Talk about creature of habit. After a few times of watching him, I figured out what route he was taking every single time and set up a chokepoint. Good times.
